Controllo di gestione nelle PMI e consulenti esterni

2019

Management control in SMEs and external consultants. The issue of management control in small and medium-sized enterprises has long been the subject of scientific debate, as well as a key point of professionals’ interest. Starting from the recognition of the role played by the latter, this paper aims to investigate the type and level of dissemination of management control tools in SMEs by adopting the perspective o…

This article focuses on the challenges of multilingual court work in Finland. The goal of the article is to describe on the basis of one interpreting event the kind of problems that can be found in the court work regarding the collaboration of two professions: the court interpreters and the legal professionals. The point of departure is to answer the question: how do legal professionals and court interpreters collaborate in the court? First, the article argues for the need of shared expertise and multiprofessional collaboration in the field of legal translating and court interpreting. This claim is justified by a short description of a legal translation, some recent interviews, a survey, an…

Spatial updating and domain expertise: the case of dancers: Poster

2021

Dancers are a unique group of individuals who routinely engage in coordi nated highly skilled performances with others in the immediate environment. Previous research suggests that, compared to non-dancers, dancers have superior cognitive and motor skills, such as memory, posture control and balance. Although differences between dancers and non-dancers are reported for spatial skills as well, it is still unknown whether they are the result or the cause of dancing experience, with individuals having superior skills being more likely to take up dancing. To answer this question, we asked novices with no formal dance experience to attend dance lessons for a year. To investigate the effects of d…

Teacher-researchers Exploring Design-based Research to Develop Learning Designs in Higher Education Language Teaching

2012

Due to constant changes and developments of the 21st century societies and working life, the environments in which learning takes place have changed. Novel ways to research learning in those environments and to explore how learning could be supported with the learning design are needed in order to bring about changes in teaching practices. One of those ways could be design-based research (DBR), an iterative, interventionist and flexible research strategy, which would allow cycles of developing theory of learning as well as implementing design principles in practice. This article describes how we, as teacher-researchers, have adopted a design-based research approach in two separate studies i…

Typical and Atypical Development of Visual Expertise for Print as Indexed by the Visual Word N1 (N170w) : A Systematic Review

2022

The visual word N1 (N170w) is an early brain ERP component that has been found to be a neurophysiological marker for print expertise, which is a prelexical requirement associated with reading development. To date, no other review has assimilated existing research on reading difficulties and atypical development of processes reflected in the N170w response. Hence, this systematic review synthesized results and evaluated neurophysiological and experimental procedures across different studies about visual print expertise in reading development. Literature databases were examined for relevant studies from 1995 to 2020 investigating the N170w response in individuals with or without reading disor…

The role of expert evaluation for microsleep detection

2015

Abstract Recently, it has been shown by overnight driving simulation studies that microsleep density is the only known sleepiness indicator which rapidly increases within a few seconds immediately before sleepiness related crashes. This indicator is based solely on EEG and EOG and subsequent adaptive pattern recognition. Accurate microsleep recognition is very important for the performance of this sleepiness indicator. The question is whether expensive evaluations of microsleep events by a) experts are necessary or b) non-experts provide sufficient evaluations. Based on 11,114 microsleep events in case a) and 12,787 in case b) recognition accuracies were investigated utilizing (i) artificia…

Relationaalisen asiantuntijuuden rakentuminen varhaiskasvatuksen opettajankoulutuksen ohjatun harjoittelun diskursseissa

2021

Cobalt content of foods and diets in a Spanish population

1986

The WHO Expert Committee on Food Contaminants has pointed out the need of determining the content of foods in trace elements in order to ascertain their contribution to the total intake of oligoelements through the diet. Since the contents in trace elements depend on the environmental features, it is necessary to carry out systematic determinations of trace elements in foods of local origin in order to know the exposure level of population. This work intends to study the cobalt contribution through the diet. The element intake is calculated from the cobalt content in raw foods after elimination of the non-eatable moiety by flame atomic absorption spectroscopy, after formation of a chelate w…

Expert system for predicting unstable angina based on Bayesian networks

2013

The use of computer-based clinical decision support (CDS) tools is growing significantly in recent years. These tools help reduce waiting lists, minimise patient risks and, at the same time, optimise the cost health resources. In this paper, we present a CDS application that predicts the probability of having unstable angina based on clinical data. Due to the characteristics of the variables (mostly binary) a Bayesian network model was chosen to support the system. Bayesian-network model was constructed using a population of 1164 patients, and subsequently was validated with a population of 103 patients. The validation results, with a negative predictive value (NPV) of 91%, demonstrate its …
