Conjugate times for smooth singular trajectories and bang-bang extremals

Abstract In this paper we discuss the problem of estimating conjugate times along smooth singular or bang-bang extremals. For smooth extremals conjugate times can be defined in the generic case by using the intrinsic second order derivative or the exponential mapping. An algorithm is given which was implemented in the SR-case to compute the caustic [1] or in recent applied problems [5],[9]. Localization from inertial data and sporadic position measurements

International audience; A novel estimation strategy for inertial navigation in indoor/outdoor environments is proposed with a specific attention to the sporadic nature of the non-periodic measurements. After introducing the inertial navigation model, we introduce an observer providing an asymptotic estimate of the plant state. We use a hybrid dynamical systems representation for our results, in order to provide an effective, and elegant theoretical framework. Variational Bethe ansatz approach for dipolar one-dimensional bosons

We propose a variational approximation to the ground state energy of a one-dimensional gas of interacting bosons on the continuum based on the Bethe Ansatz ground state wavefunction of the Lieb-Liniger model. We apply our variational approximation to a gas of dipolar bosons in the single mode approximation and obtain its ground state energy per unit length. This allows for the calculation of the Tomonaga-Luttinger exponent as a function of density and the determination of the structure factor at small momenta. Moreover, in the case of attractive dipolar interaction, an instability is predicted at a critical density, which could be accessed in lanthanide atoms.
18 parameter deformations of the Peregrine breather of order 10 solutions of the NLS equation

We present here new solutions of the focusing one-dimensional nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS) equation which appear as deformations of the Peregrine breather of order 10 with 18 real parameters. With this method, we obtain new families of quasi-rational solutions of the NLS equation, and we obtain explicit quotients of polynomial of degree 110 in x and t by a product of an exponential depending on t. We construct new patterns of different types of rogue waves and recover the triangular configurations as well as rings and concentric rings as found for the lower-orders.
Mutual inductance for an explicitly finite number of turns

A Cross-Sectional Analysis of Growth and Profit Rate Distribution: The Spanish Case

We analyse the time evolution of the empirical cross-sectional distribution of firms’ profit and growth rates. In particular, we analyse the conditional properties of the empirical distributions depending on the size of the firms and the business cycle phase. In order to do so, we employ the Laplace distribution as a benchmark, further considering the Subbotin and Asymmetric Exponential Power (AEP hereafter) distributions, to capture the potential asymmetry and leptokurtosis of the empirical distribution. Shakedown analysis for a class of strengthening materials within the framework of gradient plasticity

Abstract The classical shakedown theory is extended to a class of perfectly plastic materials with strengthening effects (Hall–Petch effects). To this aim, a strain gradient plasticity model previously advanced by Polizzotto (2010) is used, whereby a featuring strengthening law provides the strengthening stress, i.e. the increase of the yield strength produced by plastic deformation, as a degree-zero homogeneous second-order differential form in the accumulated plastic strain with associated higher order boundary conditions. The glass transition in (KI)0.5(ND4I)0.5 mixed crystals as studied by deuteron spin-lattice relaxation

Abstract Nuclear spin resonance has been used to study the deuteron magnetization recovery in (KI)0.5(ND4I)0.5 mixed crystals. At high temperatures the spin-lattice-relaxation is exponential. For T ⪅ 45 K deviations from this simple behaviour occur, signalling the onset of spatial inhomogeneities due to the formation of an orientational glass. The results demonstrate that the transition of (KI)0.5(ND4I)0.5 into the glassy state is driven by the freezing of random bonds.
