Personality of Fragility Fractures of the Pelvis

The personality of pelvic fractures in the elderly differs in many ways from pelvic ring lesions in adults. Only high-energy trauma leads to pelvic ring disruptions. Concomitant lesions of the soft tissues occur frequently. In the elderly, low-energy falls are the rule. The most important symptom is pain, which restricts mobility. Hemodynamic instability in fragility fractures of the pelvis is rare. Emergency stabilization with pelvic binders or sheets, C-clamping or emergency external fixation are not needed. The challenges of monoaxial bone transport in orthopedics and traumatology

Background. Bone defects represent the main challenging problem for the orthopedic surgeon and, consequently, they increase the duration of hospitalization, risk of complications and health expenditures. The aim of our observational, descriptive and retrospective study is to evaluate the outcomes of patients treated with a mo­nolateral external fixator for bone defects greater than 3 cm. Material and methods. Between January 2003 and January 2013, 21 patients were treated at our center by bone transfer with a monolateral external fixator. Clinical pathways for fragility fractures of the pelvic ring: personal experience and review of the literature

AbstractFragility fractures of the pelvic ring (FFP) are increasing in frequency and require challenging treatment. A new comprehensive classification considers both fracture morphology and degree of instability. The classification system also provides recommendations for type and invasiveness of treatment. In this article, a literature review of treatment alternatives is presented and compared with our own experiences. The primary goal in the treatment of pelvic fractures is the restoration of haemodynamic stability. The secondary goal is the reconstruction of stability and symmetry of the pelvic ring. After arthroplasty, arthrodesis of the ankle joint is the most common method to treat advanced ankle osteoarthritis. The goal of the study was to assess the subjective and objective outcomes in 2 different types of fixation for ankle joint arthrodesis.
