HPLC-DAD-ESI-MS2analytical profile of extracts obtained from purple sweet potato after green ultrasound-assisted extraction
2016
International audience; Ultrasound pre-treatment (UAE) was applied to assist the extraction of valuable compounds (polyphenols (especially anthocyanins), and proteins) from purple sweet potato (PSP). Under optimum conditions (ultrasound time (40 min); supplementary hot extraction (80 °C) up to 120 min; pH: 2.5; ethanol concentration: 58%), the highest concentrations of polyphenols (3.877 mg/g), anthocyanins (0.293 mg/g), and proteins (0.753 mg/g) were found, with minimal specific energy consumption (8406 J/mg).Moreover, anthocyanin and non-anthocyanin polyphenols in PSP extract from optimized extraction temperature were identified using HPLC-DAD-ESI-MS2. The major identified anthocyanins we…
Potent Aroma Compounds of Two Red Wine Vinegars
2000
Gas chromatography olfactometry (GCO) was used to determine key aroma compounds of two red wine vinegars. Sensory analysis was performed to choose the best neutralization agent of acetic acid (NaOH or MgO) and to test representativeness of four extracts obtained by different methods (dichloromethane extraction, XAD-2, mixture of XAD-2 and XAD-7, and Extrelut resins extraction). Neutralization with NaOH followed by dichloromethane extraction was selected to extract volatile compounds of vinegars. Key odorant compounds were determined by GCO based on detection frequency with 13 people. In the two red wine vinegars, 13 odors were perceived by at least 70% of the panelists, and 8 compounds amon…
Speech Activity Detection under Adverse Noisy Conditions at Low SNRs
2021
Speech originating from the noisy environments degrades the speech quality and intelligibility, thus reducing the human perceived Quality of Experience (QoE). For example, surveillance using drone during natural catastrophe needs an efficient speech recognition device to recognise the speech of the frozen human in presence of drone noise to save their life. Therefore, it often requires to pre-process the noisy speech in order to reduce the noise artifacts and enhance the speech. This paper detects the speech activity using Voice Activity Detection (VAD). The VAD distinguishes speech activity (speech presence) and speech inactivity (silence/noise) by extracting the speech features and compar…
The performance of the cryogenic buffer-gas stopping cell of SHIPTRAP
2018
Direct high-precision mass spectrometry of the heaviest elements with SHIPTRAP, at GSI in Darmstadt, Germany, requires high efficiency to deal with the low production rates of such exotic nuclides. A second-generation gas stopping cell, operating at cryogenic temperatures, was developed and recently integrated into the relocated system to boost the overall efficiency. Offline measurements using 223Ra and 225Ac recoil-ion sources placed inside the gas volume were performed to characterize the gas stopping cell with respect to purity and extraction efficiency. In addition, a first online test using the fusion-evaporation residue 254No was performed, resulting in a combined stopping and extrac…
Elimination of in vitro bacterial contaminants in shoot cultures of ‘MRS 2/5’ plum hybrid by the use of Melia azedarach extracts
2008
The antimicrobial activity of leaf and callus extracts of Melia azedarach was tested on in vitro shoot cultures of the peach rootstoch 'MRS 2/5' (Prunus cerasifera × Prunus spinosa) that were heavily contaminated with Sphingomonas paucimobilis (Sp) and Bacillus circulans (Bc). The extracts were filter-sterilised and added at 0%, 1%, 5%, 10% and 20% to a modified Murashige and Skoog proliferation medium previously autoclave-sterilised. Up to about 17% shoots died with 10-20% extract, except for Sp-contaminated shoots, whose survival was reduced to 50% after treatment with 20% extract. No shoots died with 1% to 5% supplement. The undiluted leaf extract showed bactericidal activity on plated S…

Pressurized liquid extraction followed by liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry for determination of zearalenone in cereal flours
2010
Abstract A method for determination of zearalenone in cereal flour has been developed applying pressurized liquid extraction (PLE) using methanol/acetonitrile (50:50 v/v) as the extraction solvent. The extracted samples were analyzed with liquid chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry (LC–MS) with an electro spray ionisation interface (ESI). The method was validated as a quantitative confirmatory method according to the Eu Commission Decision 2002/657/EC. Recoveries of the extraction step data were satisfactory with values higher then 70%. Quantification limits (LOQ) were 5 μg/kg for ESI (+) and 1 μg/kg for ESI (−). Twenty one flour samples produced in different countries were extracted…
Safety assessment of food-contact paper and board using a battery of short-term toxicity tests: European union BIOSAFEPAPER project.
2005
International audience; An European Union (EU)-funded project QLK1-CT-2001-00930 (BIOSAFEPAPER) involves the development, validation and intercalibration of a short-term battery of toxicological tests for the safety assessment of food-contact paper and board. Dissemination of the results to industry, legislators (e.g. DG Consumer Protection, DG Enterprises, DG Research), standardization bodies such as CEN, and consumers will create an agreed risk evaluation procedure. The project involves pre-normative research in order to establish a set of in-vitro cytotoxicity and genotoxicity tests that will be easily adaptable to food-contact fibre-based materials and have endpoints relevant to consume…
Bacterial growth and biological properties of Cymbopogon schoenanthus and Ziziphus lotus are modulated by extraction conditions
2020
Abstract The present study aims to evaluate the antibacterial activity and biological properties of two traditional Saharian plants (Cymbopogon schoenanthus and Ziziphus lotus). The plant extracts were obtained by using a different combination of extraction methods (conventional vs. ultrasound-assisted) and solvents (water vs. ethanol:water (50:50, v/v)). The antioxidant profile, anti-inflammatory activity and impact on bacterial growth (foodborne and probiotic bacteria) of the obtained extracts were assessed. The plant species showed the hierarchically more important role in determining the biological properties of the extracts, followed by extraction solvent and extraction conditions. Con…
The chemical composition of the aerial parts of Stachys spreitzenhoferi (Lamiaceae) growing in Kythira Island (Greece), and their antioxidant, antimi…
2022
The Stachys L. genus has been used in traditional medicine to treat skin inflammations, stomach disorders, and stress. The aim of this study was to investigate the chemical profile and biological activity of the methanolic extract of Stachys spreitzenhoferi Heldr. (Lamiaceae) aerial parts, collected on the island of Kythira, South Greece. The analysis by liquid chromatography coupled with electrospray ionization and high-resolution mass spectrometry [LC-(-)ESI/HRMSn] of the methanol extract revealed the occurrence of thirty-six compounds - flavonoids, phenylethanoid glycosides, iridoids, quinic acid derivatives, aliphatic alcohol glycosides, and oligosaccharides - highlighting the substanti…
