A Trusted Hybrid Learning Approach to Secure Edge Computing
2021
Securing edge computing has drawn much attention due to the vital role of edge computing in Fifth Generation (5G) wireless networks. Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been adopted to protect networks against attackers targeting the connected edge devices or the wireless channel. However, the proposed detection mechanisms could generate a high false detection rate, especially against unknown attacks defined as zero-day threats. Thereby, we propose and conceive a new hybrid learning security framework that combines the expertise of security experts and the strength of machine learning to protect the edge computing network from known and unknown attacks, while minimizing the false detection rat…
Dispersive magnetic immunoaffinity extraction. Anatoxin-a determination.
2017
Specific monoclonal antibodies were coupled with magnetic Sepharose-based beads and used, for the first time. The methodology was applied to preconcentrate anatoxin-a from water and the later determination by ion mobility spectrometry (IMS). Dispersive magnetic immunoaffinity (d-MagIA) extraction methodology provided a limit of detection of 0.02μgL-1 and a satisfactory precision with a relative standard deviation lower than 15%. Recoveries were evaluated at 0.5, 1.0 and 5.0μgL-1 anatoxin-a with quantitative values from 91 to 115%. Additionally, isobaric interferences with phenylalanine were completely avoided by the use of the developed d-MagIA extraction coupled to IMS determinations.
Highly selective recovery of Ni(II) in neutral and acidic media using a novel Ni(II)-ion imprinted polymer
2022
In this work, an original ion-imprinted polymer (IIP) was synthetized for the highly selective removal of Ni(II) ions in neutral and acidic media. First a novel functional monomer (AMP-MMA) was synthetized through the amidation of 2-(aminomethyl)pyridine (AMP) with methacryloylchloride. Following Ni(II)/AMP-MMA complex formation study, the Ni(II)-IIP was produced via inverse suspension polymerization (DMSO in mineral oil) and characterized with solid state 13C CPMAS NMR, FT-IR, SEM and nitrogen adsorption/desorption experiments. The Ni(II)-IIP was then used in solid-phase extraction of Ni(II) exploring a wide range of pH (from neutral to strongly acidic solution), several initial concentrat…
Fast and direct analysis of oxidation levels of oil-in-water emulsions using ATR-FTIR.
2019
International audience; Oxidation of omega-3 fatty acids is a major limitation on its enrichment in food and beverages. An efficient and simple method to monitor lipid oxidation in complex systems is essential to limit lipid oxidation during formulation and processing. Fish oil-in-water emulsions (20% v/v) were exposed to iron or free radical initiated oxidation. Conjugated dienes (CDs) were rapidly measured using a previously developed fat extraction method. Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy has been used to directly record chemical changes occurring during oxidation. Variations were noticed in different spectral regions despite the presence of broad water bands near 3400 and …
Isomerization and increase in the antioxidant properties of lycopene from Momordica cochinchinensis (gac) by moderate heat treatment with UV-Vis spec…
2014
International audience; Momordica cochinchinensis (gac) is a plant rich in lycopene. This pigment tends to solubilize in oil and get damaged during extraction. The impact of heating on cis-isomerization of oil-free lycopene in hexane was studied at 50 and 80°C during 240min with UV-Vis spectrometry, DAD-HPLC and TEAC test. The initial all-trans-form isomerized to the 13-cis isomer more rapidly at 80°C. After this treatment, 16% of the lycopene compounds were in the 9-cis-form. This isomer triggered an increase in the antioxidant properties which was detectable from concentrations above 9% and resulted in a change from 2.4 to 3.7μmol Trolox equivalent. It is thus possible to increase the bio…
Explicit signal to noise ratio in reproducing kernel Hilbert spaces
2011
This paper introduces a nonlinear feature extraction method based on kernels for remote sensing data analysis. The proposed approach is based on the minimum noise fraction (MNF) transform, which maximizes the signal variance while also minimizing the estimated noise variance. We here propose an alternative kernel MNF (KMNF) in which the noise is explicitly estimated in the reproducing kernel Hilbert space. This enables KMNF dealing with non-linear relations between the noise and the signal features jointly. Results show that the proposed KMNF provides the most noise-free features when confronted with PCA, MNF, KPCA, and the previous version of KMNF. Extracted features with the explicit KMNF…
Determination of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs in water and urine using selective molecular imprinted polymer extraction and liquid chromatog…
2016
Abstract A selective solid-phase extraction was employed for the improvement of the determination of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) in continental water and urine samples. Ketoprofen, naproxen, diclofenac, and ibuprofen were selected as target analytes due to they are the most frequently administered and consumed NSAIDs. These compounds were extracted using molecular imprinted polymers and determined by liquid chromatography with diode array (DAD), and tandem-mass spectrometry (MS–MS) detectors. Performance of DAD and MS–MS detectors was evaluated throughout this study. The obtained limits of quantification, after a 50-fold preconcentration solid-phase extraction, varied fro…

Does relevance matter to data mining research?
2008
Data mining (DM) and knowledge discovery are intelligent tools that help to accumulate and process data and make use of it. We review several existing frameworks for DM research that originate from different paradigms. These DM frameworks mainly address various DM algorithms for the different steps of the DM process. Recent research has shown that many real-world problems require integration of several DM algorithms from different paradigms in order to produce a better solution elevating the importance of practice-oriented aspects also in DM research. In this chapter we strongly emphasize that DM research should also take into account the relevance of research, not only the rigor of it. Und…
On the use of information systems research methods in data mining
2006
Information systems are powerful instruments for organizational problem solving through formal information processing (Lyytinen, 1987). Data mining (DM) and knowledge discovery are intelligent tools that help to accumulate and process data and make use of it (Fayyad, 1996). Data mining bridges many technical areas, including databases, statistics, machine learning, and human-computer interaction. The set of data mining processes used to extract and verify patterns in data is the core of the knowledge discovery process. Numerous data mining techniques have recently been developed to extract knowledge from large databases. The area of data mining is historically more related to AI (Artificial…
