A Method Based on Multi-source Feature Detection for Counting People in Crowded Areas

2019

We propose a crowd counting method for multisource feature fusion. Image features are extracted from multiple sources, and the population is estimated by image feature extraction and texture feature analysis, along with for crowd image edge detection. We count people in high-density still images. For instance, in the city’s squares, sports fields, subway stations, etc. Our approach uses a still image taken by a camera on a drone to appraise the count in the population density image, using a kind of sources of information: HOG, LBP, CANNY. We furnish separate estimates of counts and other statistical measurements through several types of sources. Support vector machine SVM, classification an…

Shared feature representations of LiDAR and optical images: Trading sparsity for semantic discrimination

2015

This paper studies the level of complementary information conveyed by extremely high resolution LiDAR and optical images. We pursue this goal following an indirect approach via unsupervised spatial-spectral feature extraction. We used a recently presented unsupervised convolutional neural network trained to enforce both population and lifetime spar-sity in the feature representation. We derived independent and joint feature representations, and analyzed the sparsity scores and the discriminative power. Interestingly, the obtained results revealed that the RGB+LiDAR representation is no longer sparse, and the derived basis functions merge color and elevation yielding a set of more expressive…

Partitioning of nanoparticle-originated dissolved silver in natural and artificial sediments

2017

Sediments are believed to be a major sink for silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) in the aquatic environment, but there is a lack of knowledge about the environmental effects and behavior of AgNPs in sediments. The release of highly toxic Ag+ through dissolution of AgNPs is one mechanism leading to toxic effects in sediments. We applied an ultrasound-assisted sequential extraction method to evaluate the dissolution of AgNPs and to study the partitioning of dissolved Ag in sediments. Silver was spiked into artificial and 2 natural sediments (Lake Höytiäinen sediment and Lake Kuorinka sediment) as silver nitrate (AgNO3), uncoated AgNPs, or polyvinylpyrrolidone-coated AgNPs (PVP-AgNPs). In addition, …

Zastosowanie ekstrakcji i technik membranowych do rozdziału stereoizomerów aminokwasów i ich pochodnych

2004

Derivatives of amino acids are known from their great biological relevance, for example can be used as pharmaceuticals, crop protection substances or food additives. In significant number of cases such substances show their biological potency only as single enantiomer. Therefore, one of the most important conditions during their production is to ensure their high optical purity. Generally, two routes to accomplish this goal are considered to be most effective. The first one is to synthesize enantiomers with the support of chiral catalyst introduced into the reaction mixture. The second approach involves the preparation of racemic mixture and in final step to separate it into single enantiom…

Steering of a Sub-GeV electron beam through planar channeling enhanced by rechanneling

2014

We report the observation of efficient steering of a 855 MeV electron beam at MAMI (MAinzer MIkrotron) facilities by means of planar channeling and volume reflection in a bent silicon crystal. A $30.5\text{ }\text{ }\ensuremath{\mu}\mathrm{m}$ thick plate of (211) oriented Si was bent to cause quasimosaic deformation of the (111) crystallographic planes, which were used for coherent interaction with the electron beam. The experimental results are analogous to those recorded some years ago at energy higher than 100 GeV, which is the only comparable study to date. Monte Carlo simulations demonstrated that rechanneling plays a considerable role in a particle's dynamics and hinders the spoiling…

Instrumental Odour Monitoring System Classification Performance Optimization by Analysis of Different Pattern-Recognition and Feature Extraction Tech…

2020

Instrumental odour monitoring systems (IOMS) are intelligent electronic sensing tools for which the primary application is the generation of odour metrics that are indicators of odour as perceived by human observers. The quality of the odour sensor signal, the mathematical treatment of the acquired data, and the validation of the correlation of the odour metric are key topics to control in order to ensure a robust and reliable measurement. The research presents and discusses the use of different pattern recognition and feature extraction techniques in the elaboration and effectiveness of the odour classification monitoring model (OCMM). The effect of the rise, intermediate, and peak period …

Elliptical Fourier Descriptors for shape retrieval in biological images

2002

The retrieval of information in a standard database can be obtained in different ways and in some cases a number of steps are necessary to extract the sought for information. More difficulties exist when we are looking for a pictorial information in a database. This paper presents a method for finding an image in a biological database based on elliptical Fourier descriptors. Fourier descriptors are considered here as textual information and a distance function is proposed to evaluate the best result. Fourier descriptors and distance function are used to retrieve image in pictorial database.

Caffeine analysis and extraction from a topical cream intended for UV-skin protection

2020

Made available in DSpace on 2021-06-25T10:16:59Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 0 Previous issue date: 2020-01-01 This study aimed to develop and validate a method for the analysis of caffeine in complex cosmetic samples, such as sunscreens. Besides, an extraction method of caffeine from coffee oil and from creams, which contains both lipophilic and hydrophilic components, has been developed. The method to analyze caffeine was developed using an isocratic pump, Waters 1515 and an automatic injector Perkin-Elmer Series 200 and an UV detector Perkin-Elmer. As stationary phase, Kromasil C-18 (150 × 4.6 mm ID with particle size of 5 µm) column was used and a mixture of water (pH 4.00)/acetonitrile (…

Isolation of Zebrafish Gonads for RNA Isolation

2013

Piwi proteins and piRNAs are abundant in the gonads of various animal species. Gonads from different developmental stages provide us information regarding the function of piRNAs and the PIWI pathway during germline development. Here we describe methods for gonad and germ cell preparation from different developmental stages of zebrafish. We also describe how to use these gonads to purify and characterize piRNAs.
