Development and validation of a pressurized liquid extraction liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry method for perfluorinated compounds dete…

2009

Abstract This paper describes the development and validation of an analytical methodology to determine eight perfluorinated compounds (PFCs) in edible fish using pressurized liquid extraction (PLE) with water and solid-phase extraction (SPE) with an ion-exchanger as extraction and pre-concentration procedures, followed by liquid chromatography–quadrupole-linear ion trap mass spectrometry (LC–QqLIT–MS). The rapidity and effectiveness of the proposed extraction procedure were compared with those most commonly used to isolate PFCs from fish (ion-pairing and alkaline digestion). The average recoveries of the different fish samples, spiked with the eight PFCs at three levels (the LOQ, 10 and 100…

Metals distribution in the organic and inorganic fractions of soil: A case study on soils from Sicily

2005

The content of Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Fe, Mn, Ni, Pb and Zn, has been determined in the organic and inorganic fraction of eight soil samples from Sicily. A modified type-Tessier sequential extraction procedure has been used to recognize metals in five different fractions categorised as follows: (a) exchangeable metals, (b) metals bound to carbonates, (c) metals bound to iron and manganese oxides, (d) metals bound to organic matter, and (e) metals in residual fraction. The mineralogical composition of soils samples was characterized by X-ray diffraction. Humic substances were extracted by means of an alkaline extraction procedure. It has been found that both the mineralogical composition and the di…

New Lignocellulosic Aristida adscensionis Fibers as Novel Reinforcement for Composite Materials: Extraction, Characterization and Weibull Distributio…

2019

In this research, the Aristida adscensionis fibers (AAFs) were taken out from the plants and its fundamental properties anlayzed for the first time. The AAFs were characterized and compared with other natural fibers by the use of physico-chemical analysis and various characterization techniques such as FT-IR, XRD, NMR, TGA, SEM and AFM. Chemical analysis showed that A. adscensionis fibers have a high cellulose content of 70.78% whereas the contents of lignin and wax are equal to 8.91% and 2.26%, respectively. The FT-IR, XRD and NMR analysis confirmed that AAFs are rich in cellulose content with CI and CS equal to 58.9% and 11.5 nm, respectively. Pycnometer analysis allowed to estimate a den…

Determination of bisphenol diglycidyl ether residues in canned foods by pressurized liquid extraction and liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrome…

2005

Abstract A new confirmatory method for simultaneous determination of bisphenol diglycidyl ether residues (BADGE, BADGE·H2O, BADGE·2H2O, BADGE·H2O·HCl, BADGE·HCl, BADGE·2HCl, BFDGE and BFDGE·2HCl) from canned food has been developed. The proposed method includes extraction by pressurized liquid extraction (PLE) followed by liquid–liquid partition and purification by solid phase extraction (SPE). Several solvent systems and different operating conditions (time, temperature) have been investigated for PLE optimization. A reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC) coupled to atmospheric pressure chemical ionisation tandem mass spectrometry (APCI-MS–MS) method was developed …

Comparison of solid-phase microextraction and stir bar sorptive extraction for determining six organophosphorus insecticides in honey by liquid chrom…

2004

Abstract Two approaches based on sorptive extraction, solid-phase microextraction (SPME) and stir bar sorptive extraction (SBSE), in combination with liquid chromatography (LC)–atmospheric pressure chemical ionization mass spectrometry (MS) have been assayed for analyzing chlorpyriphos methyl, diazinon, fonofos, phenthoate, phosalone, and pirimiphos ethyl in honey. In both, SPME and SBSE, enrichment was performed using a poly(dimethylsiloxane) coating. Significant parameters affecting sorption process such as sample volume, sorption and desorption times, ionic strength, elution solvent, and dilution (water/honey) proportion were optimized and discussed. Performance of both methods has been …

Current trends in affinity-based monoliths in microextraction approaches: A review

2019

Abstract This article reviews the research contributions along the past five years concerning to monolithic materials for the development of affinity-based sorbents in the field of microextraction techniques. The first part of this paper includes an introduction regarding monolithic affinity media and information of different binding agents (such as immunoglobulin-binding proteins, enzymes, lectins, antibodies, aptamers, dyes and immobilized metal ions and nanoparticles, among others) that can act as affinity ligands. Then, the preparation of monoliths and ligand immobilization strategies as well as the different available formats (syringes, pipette tips, spin columns, capillaries, disks an…

New Tools for Characterizing Metallic Nanoparticles: AgNPs, A Case Study.

2015

Currently, transmission electron microscopy (TEM) is the main technique for estimating the sizes of spherical nanoparticles (NPs) and through them, their concentrations. This paper demonstrates for the first time that C18 reversed-phase capillary liquid chromatography (Cap-LC) coupled to diode array detection (DAD) has the potential to estimate mean concentrations of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) and thereby determine their average size. Direct injection of the sample without previous extraction or separation steps is carried out. Only a unique standard with a known AgNP size is needed for the calibration. In a first approach, the new method has been tested over silver nanoparticles, produce…

Changes of humic substances characteristics from forested to cultivated soils in Ethiopia

2006

The dynamics of the stable fractions of soil organic matter (SOM), the humic substances, has been rarely studied in tropical soils. We evaluated extraction yields, elemental composition, isotopic d 13 C abundance and solid-state 13 C NMR spectra of humic fractions isolated from five forested and cultivated soils in Ethiopia in order to assess the influence of deforestation and subsequent cultivation on the composition of humic fractions. In all locations, humic (HA) and fulvic (FA) acids, humin (HU) and a humic hydrophobic fraction extracted with an acetone–HCl solution (HE) were decreased as a result of deforestation and cultivation, but the magnitude of decrease was site-specific. While t…

Synthesis of flexible nanotweezers with various metals and their application in carbon nanotube extraction

2018

Bisporphyrin-based flexible nanotweezers with various metals were synthesized and applied to the extraction of single-walled carbon nanotubes. Homo- and hetero-metallic bisporphyrins containing Co2+ were found to afford higher SWNT-extraction ability, while no or a little amount of SWNTs were extracted by bisporphyrins with other metals.

Synergistic effect of ligating and ionic functions, prearranged on a calix[4]arene.

2006

The covalent attachment of two CMPO-functions and two anionic Cosan groups to the narrow rim of tert-butylcalix[4]arene leads to a dramatic increase of the extraction efficiency for the cone isomer; Am(3+) is removed from 5 x 10(-8) M solution to more than 99% by a single extraction step with a 3 x 10(-6) M solution of the calixarene.
