Determination of Urea Pesticide Residues in Vegetable, Soil, and Water Samples

2003

The main physico-chemical, toxicological, and environmental properties of urea pesticides are summarized. General characteristics of analytical methods for residues of phenylurea herbicides (PUHs), sulfonylurea herbicides (SUHs), and Benzoylurea insecticides (BUIs) in crops, soil, and water samples, employed in the last 5 years are reviewed. Provided it is information about liquid-liquid and solid-phase extraction of the samples and clean-up steps. The applications of gas chromatography (GC), liquid chromatography (LC), and capillary electrophoresis (CE) techniques in the analysis of these compounds are exposed in tabular form and commented on. Sensitivity and instrument conditions of liqui…

Study of kinetics of the d-pinitol extraction from carob pods using supercritical CO2

2014

Abstract There is a growing interest in the use of d -pinitol ( d -3-O-methyl-chiro-inositol) as a food supplement, thus the use of green and efficient process, such as the supercritical fluid extraction (SFE), to isolate d -pinitol from vegetable raw materials is also an interesting area of research and development. The objective of this work was to study the influence of operating conditions on the SFE of d -pinitol from carob pods. The crucial parameters in SFE, like temperature, pressure, CO 2 flow rate and duration of the process, have been studied. Finally, Naik and Barton models have successfully tested in order to fit the experimental extraction curves.

Quantification of some volatile aromatic compounds of apricot by adding standards

1988

The quantification of twelve volatile aromatic compounds of apricot was realized by adding known amounts of pure compounds directly in the slurry before analysis by vacuum distillation and gas chromatography. This method was compared with the classical technique using an internal standard and was applied to two different apricot cultivars. Large differences were observed between the amounts of volatiles calculated by the two methods. They are due to the differences between the extraction coefficients of the quantified compounds and to the retentions of volatiles on nonvolatile compounds, which may vary according to the polarity.

Effect of solvents on the selectivity of terbutylazine imprinted polymer sorbents used in solid-phase extraction

2002

A solid-phase extraction sample preparation method using a molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) selective for the triazine type pesticide terbutylazine has been developed. The method involves preconcentration from large volumes of water samples on a C18 disk coupled to selective clean-up on the MIP. The method has been optimised by studying the recovery and retention of terbutylazine and some other structurally related triazine derivates as a function of the selective washing solvent used. The effect of the water content of the selective washing solvent was also investigated on the recovery of the MIP. River water samples were analysed with the coupled technique, and efficient clean-up of th…

Pressurized liquid extraction of organic contaminants in environmental and food samples

2015

Pressurized liquid extraction (PLE) is an automated technique that uses elevated temperature and pressure to achieve exhaustive extraction from solid matrices, so reducing solvent consumption and enhancing sample throughput when compared with traditional procedures. Hence, it can be considered an environment-friendly technique, generating small volumes of waste and reducing costs and time. This review focuses on application of this green technique to the analysis of organic contaminants in food and environmental matrices for monitoring purposes. We examine fundamentals and key aspects of the development of a PLE method, including pressurized hot-water extraction, together with some relevant…

Ionic Liquid Based Headspace Solid-Phase Microextraction-Gas Chromatography for the Determination of Volatile Polar Organic Compounds

2010

Solid-phase microextraction (SPME) with an ionic liquid (IL) coating was developed for headspace extraction of a group of low molecular weight alcohols (ethanol, n-propanol, butanol, and isopropyl alcohol), acetone, ethyl acetate, and acetonitrile. A first SPME fiber was simply coated with a dedicated IL whose synthesis is described. A second SPME fiber was prepared by gluing silica (Si) particles on which the synthesized IL was chemically bonded. The analytes SPME extraction was optimized for time, temperature, and NaCl salting out content. The headspace extracted analytes were determined by simple temperature desorption into the hot injection port of a gas chromatograph. The coated-IL fib…

Comparative studies on cytotoxic effects of dental amalgams and alternative alloys according to ISO standards in vitro

1995

Deleterious effects of dental alloys, especially those of dental amalgams, have become an important issue in current discussions on biomaterials. Cytotoxicity and further related risks of amalgams are discussed in a controversial way in the literature without leading to a final conclusion. There is still a need for basic clinical and pre-clinical research, especially with respect to the wide distribution of dental amalgams. Standardized methods of cytotoxicity testing have been established by the ISO. It was the aim of the present study to detect and compare possible cytotoxic effects of dental amalgams and alternative non-amalgam alloys in vitro. According to the ISO standards, direct cont…

Determination of benperidol and its reduced metabolite in human plasma by high-performance liquid chromatography and electrochemical detection.

1991

An isocratic high-performance liquid chromatographic method with electrochemical detection for the quantification of benperidol and its suggested reduced metabolite TVX Q 5402 in human plasma is described. The method included a two-step solid-phase extraction on reversed-phase and cation-exchange material, followed by separation on a cyanopropyl silica gel column (5 microns; 250 mm x 4.6 mm I.D.). The eluent was 0.15 M acetate buffer (pH 4.7) containing 25% acetonitrile (w/w). Spiperone served as internal standard. The inclusion of the cation-exchange step provided sample purity higher than those achieved with other methods. After extraction of 1 ml of plasma, concentrations as low as 0.5 n…

Hard cap espresso extraction-stir bar preconcentration of polychlorinated biphenyls in soil and sediments.

2017

Abstract A Nespresso © hard cap espresso machine has been employed for the quantitative extraction of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) from sediments and soils. Sample extraction was performed from five grams of sample in less than 40 s, with 200 mL ethanol 40% (v/v) in water and PCBs were concentrated using stir bar sorptive extraction (SBSE) and determined by thermal desorption-gas chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (TD-GC-MS-MS). Eleven PCB congeners (28, 52, 77, 80, 81, 101, 118, 138, 153,169, and 180) were determined in soils and sediments with limits of quantification in the 0.03–0.08 ng g −1 range. Extraction efficiency was established by the analysis of soil samples spiked with…
