Bright Retinal Lesions Detection using Color Fundus Images Containing Reflective Features
2009
Recently, the research community has developed many techniques to detect and diagnose diabetic retinopathy with retinal fundus images. This is a necessary step for the implementation of a large scale screening effort in rural areas where ophthalmologists are not available. In the United States of America, the incidence of diabetes is increasing among the young population. Retina fundus images of patients younger than 20 years old present a high amount of reflectance due to the Nerve Fibre Layer (NFL). Generally, the younger the patient the more the reflectance is visible. We are not aware of algorithms able to explicitly deal with this type of artifact.
Automated and Online Eye Blink Artifact Removal from Electroencephalogram
2019
Eyeblink artifacts often contaminates electroencephalogram (EEG) signals, which could potentially confound EEG's interpretation. A lot offline methods are available to remove this artifact, but an online solution is required to remove eyeblink artifacts in near real time for EEG signal to be beneficial in applications such as brain computer interface, (BCI). In this work, approaches that combines unsupervised eyeblink artifact detection with Empirical Mode Decomposition (EMD) and Canonical Correlation Analysis (CCA) are proposed to automatically identify eyeblink artifacts and remove them in an online setting. The proposed approaches are analysed and evaluated in terms of artifact removal a…
Unsupervised Eye Blink Artifact Identification in Electroencephalogram
2018
International audience; The most prominent type of artifact contaminating electroencephalogram (EEG) signals is the eye blink (EB) artifact. Hence, EB artifact detection is one of the most crucial pre-processing step in EEG signal processing before this artifact can be removed. In this work, an approach that identifies EB artifacts without human supervision and automated varying threshold setting is proposed and evaluated. The algorithm functions on the basis of correlation between two EEG electrodes, Fp1 and Fp2, followed by EB artifact threshold determination utilizing the amplitude displacement from the mean. The proposed approach is validated and evaluated in terms of accuracy and error…
Imaging Quality of Bifocal Piggyback Intraocular Lens versus ReSTOR and TECNIS Multifocal Lenses
2009
Purpose The imaging quality provided by a piggyback integrated by a monofocal intraocular lens (IOL) + a bifocal IOL of zero power and +3.75 diopters of addition is compared with the optics quality of a simple multifocal IOL of the same power and addition. Methods The imaging quality was evaluated by determining the modulation transfer function (MTF), using an artificial eye simulating in vivo conditions of the anterior chamber, including an artificial cornea and a wet cell containing physiologic solution where the IOL was positioned. The MTFs of the bifocal piggyback for near and distance vision were measured, with pupil diameters of 3 and 5 mm, and compared with the MTFs of an equivalent …
Prevalence and Time Trends in Myopia Among Children and Adolescents.
2020
Background Myopia (near-sightedness) is increasing worldwide, especially in Asia. The aim of this study was to describe trends in the prevalence of myopia in Germany. Methods We analyzed data from the German Health Interview and Examination Survey for Children and Adolescents (KiGGS; baseline survey 2003-2006, N = 17 640; wave 2, 2014-2017, N = 15 023). The presence of myopia was determined from a parent questionnaire and validated by the use of a visual aid. The population prevalence of myopia was calculated. Based on the KiGGS wave 2 data, potential risk factors for myopia were identified by means of logistic regression. Results The prevalence of myopia at the age of 0-17 years in Germany…
Choan Seng Song - teologia z łona Azji
2016
Asphyxia Activates P65 and Induces VEGF-A Gene Expression in Retina and Choroid from Newborn Piglets
2011
Objective: Exposure to lower oxygen causes oxidative stress and promotes angiogenesis. Asphyctic neonates have shown higher cord-blood vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF). We hypothesized that retina and choroid having a different circulatory regulation (choroid lacks vascular auto-regulation) would acutely stimulate angiogenesis in response to short and severe hypoxemia.
Influence of proprioceptive information on space orientation on the ground and in orbital weightlessness
1989
Conscious space orientation depends on afferent information from different sense organs including the labyrinth, the eyes, tactile cues from the skin, joint receptors, muscle spindles, tendon organs and possibly viscera. An important role is played by impulses from the cervical position receptors in interaction with concomitant information from the otolith system. In order to isolate the effect of cervical position receptors from that of the otolith system, space experiments in orbital weightlessness and in parabolic aircraft flight were performed. It was found that stimulation of the neck receptors in weightlessness markedly influences the perception of the subjective vertical and horizont…
Further examination of the thermodynamic modification of the inflow layer of tropical cyclones by vertical wind shear
2013
Recent work has developed a new framework for the impact of vertical wind shear on the intensity evolution of tropical cyclones. A focus of this framework is on the frustration of the tropical cyclone's power machine by shear-induced, persistent downdrafts that flush relatively cool and dry (lower equivalent potential temperature, θe) air into the storm's inflow layer. These previous results have been based on idealised numerical experiments for which we have deliberately chosen a simple set of physical parameterisations. Before efforts are undertaken to test the proposed framework with real atmospheric data, we assess here the robustness of our previous res…
