Uveal effusion syndrome complicated by anterior ischemic optic neuropathy

We report on a case of idiopathic uveal effusion syndrome complicated by AION. To our knowledge such an association hasn't been previously described. We suggest that scleral thickening caused obstruction of vortex veins followed by uveal effusion and compression of posterior ciliary arteries within their intrascleral tract, leading to AION. Nevertheless it can't be excluded that AION was the result of mechanical compression on ciliary vessels of optic disc by choroidal detachment. © 1996, Kluwer Academic Publishers. This article focuses on the many instances when minute details found in feature films may have direct implications upon the development of both the visual and plot narratives. The main question we would like to ask examines whether very subtle details which may easily go unnoticed by the viewer should be audio described. To assess the visual consciousness of such minute details, a perception experiment was conducted using eye-tracking technology and questionnaires. Abstract Neglect patients exhibit both a lack of awareness for the spatial distortions imposed during visuomanual prism adaptation procedures, and exaggerated postadaptation negative after-effects. To better understand this unexpected adaptive capacity in brain-lesioned patients, we investigated the contribution of awareness for the optical shift to the development of prism adaptation. Prism adaptation consists of pointing to visual targets while wearing prisms that shift the visual field laterally. The aftereffects are not restricted to sensorimotor level but extend to spatial cognition. There is a link between spatial representation and auditory frequency, with an association of low frequencies on the left side and high frequencies on the right side of space. Using a dichotic listening task, which assesses auditory divided attention, benefits of a rightward prism adaptation were demonstrated in neglect patients (i.e., a syndrome following right hemisphere brain damage) by reducing their left auditory extinction. Inflammation results in the production of free radicals. In a model of experimental uveitis upon subcutaneous injection of endotoxin to Lewis rats, i.e., endotoxin-induced experimental uveitis (EIU), we have evaluated the status of the antioxidant capacity of ocular tissues. EIU results in a decrease of glutathione (GSH) content and glutathione peroxidase (GPx) activity in whole eye homogenates 24-h after endotoxin administration. The visual systems of pollinating insects are studied to understand the effects of a changing environment, and are to date imaged using microscopy or micro-CT. Microscopy only allows two-dimensional imaging and conventional micro-CT requires heavy-metal staining of the samples. Here we present virtual histology of compound eyes of bumblebee (Bombus terrestris) using a laboratory nano-CT system.
