Theoretical Research on the Photophysics and Photochemistry of Water Aggregates and DNA/RNA Nucleobases

2014

Search for neutrino emission from gamma-ray flaring blazars with the ANTARES telescope

2012

The ANTARES telescope observes a full hemisphere of the sky all the time with a duty cycle close to 100%. This makes it well suited for an extensive observation of neutrinos produced in astrophysical transient sources. In the surrounding medium of blazars, i.e. active galactic nuclei with their jets pointing almost directly towards the observer, neutrinos may be produced together with gamma-rays by hadronic interactions, so a strong correlation between neutrinos and gamma-rays emissions is expected. The time variability information of the studied source can be obtained by the gamma-ray light curves measured by the LAT instrument on-board the Fermi satellite. If the expected neutrino flux ob…

Electronic structure of phthalocyanines : Theoretical investigation of the optical properties of phthalocyanine monomers, dimers, and crystals

1990

We present valence effective Hamiltonian (VEH) calculations on the optical absorptions of a series of phthalocyanine compounds: the metal‐free phthalocyanine molecule, a model system for the lithium phthalocyanine molecule, the metal‐free phthalocyanine dimer, and model systems for the lutetium diphthalocyanine and the lithium phthalocyanine crystal. For these compounds, it is found that the major factor influencing the evolution of the optical transitions is not the electronic structure of the metal but rather the geometric structure: phthalocyanine intraring geometry and, in the dimers and crystals, interring separation and staggering angle. The origin of the so‐called Soret or B absorpti…

Light-induced transmission nonlinearities in gallium selenide

1999

The intensity of a He–Ne laser (633 nm, 5 mW) transmitted by different GaSe samples is observed to change in correlation with a Nd-yttrium–aluminum–garnet laser pulse (532 nm, 7.8 ns, 3 mJ) which excites them. Such time response has been attributed to a nonlinear optical effect, i.e., a decrease in the refractive index due to the exciton screening by the photogenerated carriers. A calculation of the absorption coefficient and refractive index at different carrier concentrations has led to a reconstruction of transmittance transients which fully agree with the experimental data at different incident intensities and temperatures. A measurement of the ratio of the W and Z cross sections with exactly one associated jet in pp collisions at root s=7 TeV with ATLAS

2012

The ratio of production cross sections of the W and Z bosons with exactly one associated jet is presented as a function of jet transverse momentum threshold. The measurement has been designed to maximise cancellation of experimental and theoretical uncertainties, and is reported both within a particle-level kinematic range corresponding to the detector acceptance and as a total cross-section ratio. Results are obtained with the ATLAS detector at the LHC in pp collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV using an integrated luminosity of 33 pb(-1). The results are compared with perturbative leading-order, leading-log, and next-to-leading-order QCD predictions, and are found to agree within…

Search for first generation scalar leptoquarks in pp collisions at root s=7 TeV with the ATLAS detector

2012

We report a search for first generation scalar leptoquarks using 1.03 fb(-1) of proton-proton collisions data produced by the Large Hadron Collider at root s = 7 TeV and recorded by the ATLAS experiment. Leptoquarks are sought via their decay into an electron or neutrino and a quark, producing events with two oppositely charged electrons and at least two jets, or events with an electron, missing transverse momentum and at least two jets. Control data samples are used to validate background predictions from Monte Carlo simulation. In the signal region, the observed event yields are consistent with the background expectations. We exclude at 95% confidence level the production of first generat…

Search for squarks and gluinos using final states with jets and missing transverse momentum with the ATLAS detector in √(s)=7 TeV proton-proton colli…

2012

A search for squarks and gluinos in events containing jets, missing transverse momentum and no electrons or muons is presented. The data were recorded in 2011 by the ATLAS experiment in root s = 7 TeV proton-proton collisions at the Large Hadron Collider. No excess above the Standard Model background expectation is observed in 1.04 fb(-1) of data. Gluino and squark masses below 700 GeV and 875 GeV respectively are excluded at the 95% confidence level in simplified models containing only squarks of the first two generations, a gluino octet and a massless neutralino. The exclusion limit increases to 1075 GeV for squarks and gluinos of equal mass. In MSUGRA/CMSSM models with tan beta = 10, A(0…
