Rechte und Pflichten des Radiologen bei der Indikationsstellung und Anwendung radiologischer Verfahren

2008

A radiological examination or an interventional procedure is a medical invasion of the patient's freedom and does not constitute an offense of causing bodily harm there is a medical indication, when the patient has given consent after being adequately informed, and the intervention is carried out in accord with the valid rules of medical conduct. During the assessment of possible contraindications, the radiologist must also evaluate the indicationy, i.e., he or she must decide if the medical question can be answered by the requested radiological examination. The indication must be viewed the more critically the greater the risk for a complication is. A radiological diagnosis with the use of…

Background Psoriasis is a frequent chronic inflammatory cytokine‐mediated skin disease and was identified to be an independent risk factor for the occurrence of myocardial infarction (MI). However, data about the impact of psoriasis on mortality and other in‐hospital adverse events in the setting of MI are sparse and inconsistent. Methods and Results The nationwide German inpatient sample of the years 2005 to 2016 was used for statistical analysis. Hospitalized patients with MI were stratified for the presence of psoriasis and the impact of psoriasis on in‐hospital events was investigated. Overall, 3 307 703 patients with MI (37.6% females, 56.8% aged ≥70 years) were treated in Germany (20…

The future: critical knowledge about anti-itch therapy.

2005

:  Itch is an extremely frequent and enervating symptom of many diseases. Current anti-itch therapy, which is based almost exclusively on an “immunocentric” viewpoint, is often unsatisfactory. Recent studies show that this symptom is in fact the result of a complex interplay among skin, nervous system, endocrine system, and immune system. This explains the frequent failure of therapeutic strategies focused only on a single factor and suggests the usefulness of a polypharmacologic symptomatic treatment, designed on a case-by-case basis as a result of a multidisciplinary approach. We discuss the perspectives of anti-itch therapy in light of the new pathogenetic and pharmacologic acquisitions.

Effet neuroprotecteur de l’accident ischémique transitoire

2011

Transient ischemic attack (TIA) is a well-recognized risk factor of ischemic stroke. Hence, 7 to 25% of ischemic stroke patients have a history of TIA, and the risk of ischemic stroke after TIA is about 15% at 3 months. However, epidemiological studies have demonstrated that among patients with ischemic stroke, those with a history of TIA have better functional and vital prognoses. This protective effect is particularly found in case of recent and short TIA, and in case of non-lacunar ischemic stroke. Hence, TIA can induce endogenous neuroprotection by the ischemic tolerance phenomenon that decreases the neurodegeneration usually caused by a severe cerebral ischemia in a non-preconditioned …

Evaluation of the effectiveness of occupational injury prevention programs at the company level

2013

The objective was to evaluate the effectiveness of an occupational injury prevention program, known as the Preferential Action Plan (PAP), focused on companies with high incidence rates of occupational injuries. We studied 1189 companies in the industrial, construction and services sectors between 1999 and 2007 in the Valencia region (Spain). Our sample included 507,262 workers, among whom 44,250 non-fatal occupational injuries with at least a workday lost were registered. Companies included in a PAP program were divided into three intervention groups, according to the year that each company entered into a PAP (2000, 2001, and 2002). We calculated annual percentage change in incidence rates…

Summary of the Effects of Exercise Therapy in Non-Communicable Diseases: Clinically Relevant Evidence from Meta-Analyses of Randomized Controlled Tri…

2021

There is strong evidence that exercise therapy leads to better measured and self-reported physical fitness and function in patients with chronic diseases, along with improvements in body composition. The evidence for other health benefits has not been summarized as systematically across different chronic diseases. Given the volume of research that has appeared in the past decade, this review of meta-analyses of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) in patients with specific chronic diseases summarizes the evidence regarding exercise therapy for various outcomes to help practitioners in prescribing exercise therapy for their patients. Meta-analyses published before Jan 1, 2021, based on at lea…

Peripheral blood levels of CXCL10 are a useful marker for diabetic polyneuropathy in subjects with type 2 diabetes.

2020

BACKGROUND Diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) is a chronic complication of diabetes mellitus associated with high morbidity and mortality. Major risk factors for DPN include metabolic changes, duration of diabetes, nerve ischaemia and derangements in regeneration and nerve repair programmes. Chemokines have been previously implicated in the pathogenesis of various neuropathies and neuropathic pain processes. The aim of this pilot study was to evaluate the association between the plasma levels of chemokines (CXCL9, CXCL10 and CXCL11) in the presence of DPN in a cohort of type 2 diabetes (T2D) patients. MATERIALS AND METHODS We studied 73 patients with T2D: 36 with DPN and 37 without DPN. D…

Early and late cardiovascular events in patients hospitalized for community-acquired pneumonia

2020

Abstract Introduction Community-acquired pneumonia increases the risk of cardiovascular events (CVE). The objective of this study was to analyze host, severity, and etiology factors associated with the appearance of early and late events and their impact on mortality. Method Prospective multicenter cohort study in patients hospitalized for pneumonia. CVE and mortality rates were collected at admission, 30-day follow-up (early events), and one-year follow-up (late events). Results In total, 202 of 1967 (10.42%) patients presented early CVE and 122 (6.64%) late events; 16% of 1-year mortality was attributed to cardiovascular disease. The host risk factors related to cardiovascular complicatio…
