Physical activity reduces the risk of pneumonia : systematic review and meta-analysis of 10 prospective studies involving 1,044,492 participants
2022
The beneficial effects of regular physical activity in promoting health and preventing chronic diseases are well documented. The relationship between regular physical activity and the risk of pneumonia is uncertain. We aimed to evaluate the magnitude and specificity of the prospective association between regular physical activity and the risk of pneumonia using a systematic review and meta-analysis of published observational cohort studies in general populations. Relevant studies with at least 1 year of follow-up were sought from inception until 15 September 2021 in MEDLINE, Embase, Web of Science, and manual search of relevant articles. Relative risks (RRs) with 95% confidence intervals (C…
Translation of HTT mRNA with expanded CAG repeats is regulated by the MID1-PP2A protein complex.
2012
Expansion of CAG repeats is a common feature of various neurodegenerative disorders, including Huntington's disease. Here we show that expanded CAG repeats bind to a translation regulatory protein complex containing MID1, protein phosphatase 2A and 40S ribosomal S6 kinase. Binding of the MID1-protein phosphatase 2A protein complex increases with CAG repeat size and stimulates translation of the CAG repeat expansion containing messenger RNA in a MID1-, protein phosphatase 2A- and mammalian target of rapamycin-dependent manner. Our data indicate that pathological CAG repeat expansions upregulate protein translation leading to an overproduction of aberrant protein and suggest that the MID1-com…
The E3 Ubiquitin Ligase MID1 Catalyzes Ubiquitination and Cleavage of Fu
2014
Sonic Hedgehog (SHH)-GLI signalling plays an important role during embryogenesis and in tumorigenesis. The survival and growth of several types of cancer depend on autonomously activated SHH-GLI signalling. A protein complex containing the ubiquitin-ligase MID1 and protein phosphatase 2A (PP2A) regulates the nuclear localization and transcriptional activity of GLI3, a transcriptional effector molecule of SHH, in cancer cell lines with autonomously activated SHH signalling. However, the exact molecular mechanisms that mediate the interaction between MID1 and GLI3 remained unknown. Here, we show that MID1 catalyses the ubiquitination and proteasomal cleavage of the GLI3-regulator Fu. Our data…
Biomonitoring aktywny z zastosowaniem mchów w pobliżu Miasteczka Śląskiego
2017
Zastosowano metodę biomontoringu aktywnego (metoda woreczkowa), wykorzystując mchy z gatunku Pleurozium schreberi (rokietnik pospolity). Metale ciężkie w próbkach mchów oznaczono za pomocą absorpcyjnej spektrometrii atomowej (AAS). Wyniki badań zinterpretowano, wyznaczając współczynnik akumulacji względnej (RAF). Podczas prowadzenia eksperymentu uwzględniono odległo…

The Italian Society of Gastroenterology (SIGE) and the Italian Group for the study of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IG-IBD) Clinical Practice Guideline…
2010
Biological therapies are an important step in the management of Inflammatory Bowel Diseases. In consideration of high cost and safety issues there is the need to have clear recommendations for their use. Despite the American Gastroenterological Association and the European Crohn's and Colitis Organisation have published exhaustive Inflammatory Bowel Disease guidelines, national guidelines may be necessary as cultural values, economical and legal issues may differ between countries. For these reasons the Italian Society of Gastroenterology and the Italian Group for the study of Inflammatory Bowel Disease have decided to elaborate the Italian guidelines on the use of biologics in Inflammatory…
Staphylococcus epidermidis virulences faktori un epidemioloģiskā nozīme
2016
Staphylococcus epidermidis svarīgākais virule nces faktors ir biofilmas veidošana. Lai diferencētu komensālos celmus no kolonizējošiem un invazīviem celmiem, pētījumā tika izmantotas fenotipiskās metodes, nosakot biofilmas veidošanu, antibiogrammu, un molekulārās bioloģijas metodes, nosakot virulences gēnus aap / ica A un mec A. Rezultāti liecina, ka biofilmu veidošana raksturīga klīniskajiem celmiem, statistiski ticami biežāk gēni aap/ica A bija noteikti klīniskajos S.epidermidis celmos, tie vis biežāk bija rezistenti pret meticilīnu (97,8%). S.epidermidis tipēšanai pirmo reizi tika pielietota MLST (multilokusu sekvenču tipēšana) metode. Pētījuma rezultāti ļauj secināt par S.epidermidis ge…

Pre-operative leukocytosis: a potential poor prognosis risk factor in cardiac device implantation: a case report
2022
Introduction. Despite the benefits of the implantation of cardiac rhythm management devices cardiac implantable electronic device (CIED) infection is an emerging problem New debate emerged about the unclear role of the pre-operative alteration of pro-inflammatory parameters, such as leukocytosis, in the development CIED infection and/or heart failure, and its consequent impact on the timing of ICD implantation/reimplantation. Case report. A 65 years old patient with a history of Diabetes Mellitus (DM) type II, ventricular and supraventricular arrhythmias, chronic myocardial ischemia, heart failure was admitted to hospital.Healthcare workers opted for ICD implantation despite the presence of…
Bedrock and soil geochemistry influence the content of chemical elements in wild edible mushrooms (Morchella group) from South Italy (Sicily)
2019
Chemical elements in the samples of wild edible mushrooms of the Morchella group collected from different unpolluted Sicilian sites was analyzed by the ICP-MS (method) to detect the content of their minerals and determine whether soil geology and geochemistry can influence the chemical composition in fungi. Results showed that the mushroom samples mainly contained a high concentration of K and P and a wide variety of minor and trace elements (V, Mo, Pb, Ce, Cs, Zr), including heavy metals. Statistical analysis showed that the mushrooms differed in their content of minor and trace elements based on the geological/geographic site of origin. Comparison with other studies s…
