This survey (PhD) sheds light on women’s status in the French society between 1770 and 1789, through the study of approximately 200 printed judicial briefs or factums. Although they were under men’s control, women could go to court. Wives had to obey their husbands. Nevertheless, they often showed their independence in judicial briefs. Widows could act by themselves, protect their families and influence the wealth distribution between the family members. “Girls” or “never-married women” are rare in judicial briefs, even though they could play important parts. D'un milieu à l'autre, les parents nourrissent des ambitions différentes pour les filles et les garçons. Les auteurs présentent quelques éléments sur les aspirations éducatives des parents, avant de s'arrêter sur les modèles éducatifs et les valeurs déclarées qui peuvent être considérés comme sous-jacentes aux premières.

The ability and willingness of rouseholds to pay user fees for these services is assessed. The effect of introduction of such charges on demand among low-income groups most in need of the services is analyzed. The topic of this thesis is the Marca dynasty, a piedmontese family from the Valsesia area, specialized in the stucco work. In the early eighteenth century, some of its members migrated to the Franche-Comté in France, in search of work, the others remaining in Piedmont. Their realizations can be studied in religious places and private houses in Italy, in Franche-Comté and Burgundy. These works (altars, pulpits, statues and bas-reliefs in stucco) were created between the late seventeenth century and the early nineteenth century.
