Affective Arousal During Blaming in Couple Therapy: Combining Analyses of Verbal Discourse and Physiological Responses in Two Case Studies
2016
Blaming one’s partner is common in couple therapy and such moral comment often evokes affective arousal. How people attune to each other as whole embodied beings is a current focus of interest in psychotherapy research. This study contributes to the literature by looking at attunement during critical moments in therapy interaction. Responses to blaming in verbal dialogue and at the level of the autonomic nervous system (ANS) were investigated in two couple therapy cases with a client couple and two therapists. Video-recorded couple therapy sessions were analyzed using discursive psychology and a narrative approach. The use of positioning, a discourse analytic tool, was also studied. ANS res…
Narratives by women managers about spousal support for their careers
2014
In this article we present a qualitative study of spousal support for the careers of women managers. The research material consists of the narratives of 25 women managers in Finland. The study has two main implications. Firstly, unlike previous studies, we use a narrative approach to demonstrate that a woman manager's career and spousal support are experienced as ambiguous and evolving over the career. The support was constructed by the women managers as flourishing, irrelevant, deficient or inconsistent. Secondly, to increase our knowledge about gender relations, we combine discussion of the topic with gender order analysis and suggest that gender order is critical for an understanding of …

Comunicare la pandemia tra relazioni sociali, norme e vita familiare: un'analisi quali-quantitativa degli articoli Ansa durante il lockdown
2021
This paper presents the results of a double computer-assisted analysis of selected Ansa news agency texts during the domestic quarantine period (lockdown: 10 March 2020 - May 18 2020). More specifically, the research focuses on lexicon, concepts and interpretative sequences in the construction of three media metaphors: 1) “war-like and post-apocalyptic” (CBPA); 2) “segregationist and normative” (SN), 3) “reactive and participatory” (RP). Some aspects of the new social and family relations in the Covid Age thus emerge - also on the basis of the concept of ‘interactional anomie’.
