Relaxation Dynamics of Cr(acac)3 Probed by Ultrafast Infrared Spectroscopy

2007

Ultrafast infrared spectroscopy is used to probe the dynamics of Cr(acac)3 upon ligand field (400 nm) and charge transfer state (345 nm) excitation. At both pump wavelengths, the ground state absorption bands are strongly bleached at zero delay, and new broad transient absorption bands appear red shifted from the bleached bands. Recovery of ground state bleach is dominated by a fast time constant (15 ps), while a small percentage recovers within 760−900 ps. Despite the extensive studies on Cr(acac)3 photophysics, the fast recovery of the ground state as a major channel is reported here for the first time. As a general result, the present communication emphasizes the great value of ultrafast…

2010

Abstract The study of medical thrillers is a budding field of research within the genre of professionally-based fiction. These novels usually reflect the practices, the discourse, and the socio-cultural ways of the medical community. However, on reading the more recent novels, one has the feeling that the representation of professional reality is gradually giving way to the lure of the closely related thriller genre. In the same way, the image reflected is that of a more diversified professional reality, as the authors now draw their inspiration from professionally-based material borrowed from forensic and legal thrillers. This osmosis-induced evolution highlights the hybrid nature of the g…

Ablation of c-FLIP in hepatocytes enhances death-receptor mediated apoptosis and toxic liver injury in vivo

2010

Background & Aims Apoptosis is crucially involved in acute and chronic liver injury, including viral, cholestatic, toxic, and metabolic liver disease. Additionally, dysregulation of apoptosis signaling pathways has been implicated in hepatocarcinogenesis. The most prominent members of the apoptosis-mediating tumor necrosis factor receptor superfamily are the TNF-R1 (CD120a) and the CD95 (Apo-1/Fas) receptor. Although extensively studied, the intracellular signaling events in hepatocytes are only incompletely understood. Methods To examine the role of the caspase-8 homolog cellular FLICE-inhibitory protein (c-FLIP) in liver injury, we generated mice with hepatocyte specific deletion of c-FLI…

Dominant negative MORT1/FADD rescues mice from CD95 and TNF-induced liver failure

2002

Derangement of the apoptotic program is considered an important cause of liver disease. It became clear that receptor-mediated apoptosis is of specific interest in this context, and CD95 and CD120a, both members of the tumor necrosis factor (TNF) receptor superfamily, are the most prominent cell death receptors involved. The death signal is induced upon ligand binding by recruitment of caspases via the adapter molecule MORT1/FADD to the receptor and their subsequent activation. To investigate the role of MORT1/FADD in hepatocyte apoptosis, we generated transgenic mice expressing liver-specific dominant negative mutant. Mice looked grossly normal; breeding and liver development were not diff…

Non-invasive assessment of liver steatosis and fibrosis in HIV/HCV- and HCV- infected patients

2013

BACKGROUND: Conflicting data have been reported on the prevalence of liver steatosis, its risk factors and its relationship with fibrosis in patients with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)/hepatitis C virus (HCV) co-infection or with HCV mono-infection. AIM: The study aims were to assess steatosis prevalence and its risk factors in both HCV groups. We also evaluated whether steatosis was linked with advanced fibrosis. Sixty-eight HIV/HCV co-infected and 69 HCV mono-infected patients were consecutively enrolled. They underwent liver ultrasonography and transient elastography. Bright liver echo-pattern was used to diagnose steatosis; advanced fibrosis was defined as liver stiffness ≥ 9.5 kPa…
