Micellar versus hydro-organic mobile phases for retention-hydrophobicity relationship studies with ionizable diuretics and an anionic surfactant

Abstract Logarithm of retention factors (log  k ) of a group of 14 ionizable diuretics were correlated with the molecular (log  P o/w ) and apparent (log  P app ) octanol–water partition coefficients. The compounds were chromatographed using aqueous–organic (reversed-phase liquid chromatography, RPLC) and micellar–organic mobile phases (micellar liquid chromatography, MLC) with the anionic surfactant sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), in the pH range 3–7, and a conventional octadecylsilane column. Binding of fluoride and carbonate by open chain polyammonium cations

The formation of open chain polyammonium cation-fluoride and -carbonate complexes was studied by potentiometric and calorimetric techniques at t=25 degrees C. Several species of H(i)AL (A=amine; L=F(-), CO(3)(2-)) are formed in both systems with a mean stability log K=1.0zeta (zeta=|z(anion)xz(cation)|) and log K=2.0zeta for fluoride and carbonate, respectively. Quantification of rifampicin and rifabutin in plasma of tuberculosis patients by micellar liquid chromatography

A Micellar Liquid Chromatographic method is described to determine Rifampicin and Rifabutin in plasma from Tuberculosis patients. Samples were diluted in mobile phase and then directly injected, avoiding long and tedious extraction steps. The analytes were resolved from the matrix without interferences from endogenous compounds using a mobile phase of sodium dodecyl sulfate 0.15 mol L-1–6%(v/v) 1-pentanol and phosphate buffer at pH 3, running at 1 mL min−1 through a C18 column at 25 °C. Gas chromatographic evaluation of pesticide residue contents in nectarines after non-toxic washing treatments

Washing with aqueous solutions of citric acid, ethanol, glycerol, hydrogen peroxide, potassium permanganate, sodium metabisulfite, sodium laurylsulfate (SLS), sodium hypochlorite, and urea is evaluated for pesticide residue reduction in nectarines and compared with simple tap water washing. Enhanced susceptibility of cholesteryl sulfate-enriched low density lipoproteins to copper-mediated oxidation

AbstractCholesteryl sulfate (CS) is a minor component of cell membranes, also present in lipoproteins, and its exact function is unknown. Since oxidation of low density lipoproteins (LDL) is thought to be an important determinant of atherogenesis, we investigated the influence of CS enrichment on copper-mediated oxidation of LDL. CS was found to act as a pro-oxidant, as measured by lipid oxidation parameters. The results also suggest that these effects were dependent on the sulfate group since pure cholesterol or cholesteryl acetate did not promote Cu2+-mediated oxidation. Our findings imply that CS may affect the oxidizability and hence the potential atherogenicity of LDL.

Stratospheric sulfur and its implications for radiative forcing simulated by the chemistry climate model EMAC

Multiyear simulations with the atmospheric chemistry general circulation model EMAC with a microphysical modal aerosol module at high vertical resolution demonstrate that the sulfur gases COS and SO2, the latter from low-latitude and midlatitude volcanic eruptions, predominantly control the formation of stratospheric aerosol. Marine dimethyl sulfide (DMS) and other SO2 sources, including strong anthropogenic emissions in China, are found to play a minor role except in the lowermost stratosphere. Expression of a vegetative-storage-protein gene from Arabidopsis is regulated by copper, senescence and ozone

Emerging data suggest that the mechanisms regulating plant copper homeostasis could be implicated in stress and senescence signal transduction pathways. To gain insight into copper-modulated patterns of gene expression, copper-treated Arabidopsis thaliana (L.) Heynh. plants were analysed by mRNA differential display. Reheating the Standard Model from a hidden sector

We consider a scenario where the inflaton decays to a hidden sector thermally decoupled from the visible Standard Model sector. A tiny portal coupling between the hidden and the visible sectors later heats the visible sector so that the Standard Model degrees of freedom come to dominate the energy density of the Universe before Big Bang Nucleosynthesis. We find that this scenario is viable, although obtaining the correct dark matter abundance and retaining successful Big Bang Nucleosynthesis is not obvious. We also show that the isocurvature perturbations constituted by a primordial Higgs condensate are not problematic for the viability of the scenario.

Aims Perlecan is a heparansulfate proteoglycan found in basement membranes, cartilage, and several mesenchymal tissues that form during development, tumour growth, and tissue repair.
