Summary In mammals and yeast, a cytosolic dilysine motif is critical for endoplasmic reticulum (ER) localization of type I membrane proteins. Retrograde transport of type I membrane proteins containing dilysine motifs at their cytoplasmic carboxy (C)-terminal tail involves the interaction of these motifs with the COPI coat. The C-terminal dilysine motif has also been shown to confer ER localization to type I membrane proteins in plant cells. Using in vitro binding assays, we have analyzed sorting motifs in the cytosolic tail of membrane proteins, which may be involved in the interaction with components of the COPI coat in plant cells. Erasmus + KA2 programme project “Fostering Competencies Development in Belarusian Higher Education – FOSTERC” consortium partners have met for the Final Conference in Minsk, Belarus, on the 6 th of December 2019. It was an exciting moment.  “FOSTERC” consortium worked together since 2016, many meetings, trainings, common research and creative work have been implemented in a cooperative way. The final “FOSTERC” event has summarised transformations and novelties that have been created in Belarus higher education institutions during the last three years. This article shortly reviews some insights and solutions that have been discussed during the “FOSTERC” conference in Minsk.

Abstract Longfellow’s Evangeline was hailed as a great and distinctively American work when it appeared in 1847, and the poem’s use of North American history was a key element in its favourable reception. This use of history, however, is ambiguous and complex. The epic continues, first of all, in a long tradition of romanticized retellings of the heart-rending story of the Acadians. But the work also engages in a dual-level dialogue with both the mid-eighteenth-century history of the Acadians, who are pitied, without inciting indignation, and the contemporary history of midnineteenth-century America, whose expansionism it both implicitly celebrates and criticizes. Selective targeting of avidin/mannose 6-phosphate receptor chimeras to early or late endosomes

Summary In this study we have used the Semliki forest virus expression system to transiently express chimeric proteins that contain transmembrane and cytoplasmic domains of the cation-independent mannose 6-phosphate receptor (CI-MPR) fused to chicken avidin. Immunofluorescence and electron microscopy studies showed that the chimeric protein with the entire cytoplasmic domain of CI-MPR was transported to late endosomes, where it accumulated. We made use of the biotin-binding capacity of lumenal avidin, and found that, in agreement with this distribution, the chimeric protein could be labelled with biotinylated HRP endocytosed for a long, but not a brief, period of time.
