Exploring Finnish Guidance Counselors’ Conceptions of Career Management Skills

This article reports the findings from a phenomenographic investigation into guidance counselors’ conceptions of career management skills (CMS). The results show that CMS was conceived as (a) information-based knowledge, (b) personal skills development, (c) interpersonal skills development, and (d) autonomous application of skills. The differences appeared along six dimensions of variation that included awareness of CMS, emphasis, promotion of CMS, teaching practice, assessment, and attitude. The findings give us a more profound understanding of critical aspects that may have an important role in the development of individual’s CMS.

‘I changed my life’s course’ : The impact of the Helsingin Sanomat Foundation fellowship on the career path of a journalist

This study focuses on the fellowship program of Helsingin Sanomat Foundation, which has sent a hundred mid-career journalists from Finland to study abroad at prominent universities. Based on two surveys, one on the fellows (n = 45) and one on a control group (n = 52), the article discusses the impact the fellowship education has on the journalists and their careers. The surveys are complemented with in-depth interviews of 10 fellow journalists. Las peculiaridades de la corte de Felipe III permitieron a algunos representantes de la alta aristocracia ligados al duque de Lerma, por parentesco o amistad, incrementar su poder y su peso político. Entre éstos, los Lemos tuvieron un papel de primer orden, especialmente en lo relativo a las cortes periféricas de la Península Italiana. En este trabajo se analizan algunos aspectos de la carrera politica de Francisco Lemos, VIII conde de Castro que entre 1601 y 1621 estuvo en los lugares clave para el equilibrio de la política internacional: Nápoles, Venecia, Roma, Sicilia.

Approximately 30% of human drug targets are GPCRs, illustrating their pharmaceutical relevance. Reversible stress-induced lipid body formation in fast twitch rat myofibers

We analyzed the existence of lipid bodies (LBs) in the fast twitch rat flexor digitorum brevis (FDB) myofibers and found that these structures were scarce. However, isolation procedure of the myofibers, heath shock, viral infection or the glycosylation inhibitor tunicamycin induced formation of the LBs, which were stationary structures flanking Z lines. We next infected FDB myofibers with recombinant Semliki Forest virus expressing caveolin 3-yellow fluorescent protein (cav3-YFP) since this chimeric protein was targeted to the LBs facilitating their further analysis. Release of canine parvovirus from endocytic vesicles

Canine parvovirus (CPV) is a small nonenveloped virus with a single-stranded DNA genome. CPV enters cells by clathrin-mediated endocytosis and requires an acidic endosomal step for productive infection. Virion contains a potential nuclear localization signal as well as a phospholipase A(2) like domain in N-terminus of VP1. In this study we characterized the role of PLA(2) activity on CPV entry process. PLA(2) activity of CPV capsids was triggered in vitro by heat or acidic pH. PLA(2) inhibitors inhibited the viral proliferation suggesting that PLA(2) activity is needed for productive infection. Two new anthracene chalcones, namely 1-(anthracen-9-yl)-3-(naphthalen-2-yl)prop-2-en-1-one and 1-(anthracen-9-yl)-3-(pyren-1-yl)prop-2-en-1-one, have been successfully synthesized and the effect of the different fused ring substituent system attached to the anthracene chalcone derivative investigated. These compounds show a very narrow band gap due to the large p-conjugated systems, making them promising candidates as optoelectronic materials. Hirshfeld surface analysis has been carried out to show the contribution of inter­molecular contacts and weak inter­actions to supra­molecular stabilization.
