Vacuum inversion and securing of distal colonic pseudodiverticula with novel spiked O-rings

2015

Background Diverticular disease is increasingly prevalent in Western societies and is associated with significant morbidity. Objective Two-stage endoscopic device development for inversion and secured ligation of colonic diverticula; first, human cadaver studies were performed to measure forces required for diverticular inversion; second, a novel set of devices (elastic spiked O-ring with delivery system) was tested in animals. Design Prospective, observational study of human cadavers and prospective, interventional study of a porcine model. Setting University hospital pathology laboratory and animal facility. Intervention Full-thickness inversion of the colonic wall with a pipelike deliver…

Retrorectal tumour simulating vaginal birth: an exceptional case of emergency surgery indication

2017

Cystic retrorectal tumours are a very rare entity that pose a problem in differential diagnosis between congenital cyst and other lesions. We present a 49-year-old female patient presenting a perineal bulge which was discovered simulating a vaginal birth associated with prolapsed haemorrhoids grade IV. The interest of this case resides in the surgical indication of a big presacral cyst demonstrated via CT causing acute intense pain due to pelvic organ compression, as no emergent surgery management has been reported up to date.

Bladder Mucosal Graft Vaginoplasty: A Case Report

2018

Abstract Background Female vaginoplasty reconstruction, by choice, is usually performed with adjacent tissue. However in some clinical conditions such as high urogenital confluence sinus, cloacal malformation with extreme vaginal hypoplasia, local tissue may not be available. When vaginal replacement is performed in pediatric patients intestinal segments is preferred to non-operative procedures that require continuative dilations. However mucus production, malignant transformation risk and diversion colitis are important side effects. Technique We present a nouvel technique for vaginoplasty in a female child presenting with an isolated urogenital sinus malformation without virilization. The…

Vaginohysteroscopy for the diagnosis and treatment of vaginal lesions.

2016

Abstract Background The vaginoscopic approach for hysteroscopy allows detailed endoscopic evaluation of the vaginal walls, fornices, and exocervix. Objectives To review the feasibility and efficacy of vaginohysteroscopy in the diagnosis and treatment of vaginal lesions. Search strategy A systematic review was performed of PubMed/Medline, Embase, Google Scholar, and the Cochrane Database to identify papers published in English. The search terms were “hysteroscopy,” “vaginoscopy,” “vagino-hysteroscopy,” and “vaginal lesion.” The last review was performed on January 31, 2015. Selection criteria Studies in which the diagnosis and treatment of vaginal lesions used the vaginoscopic approach and h…

Development and Validation of Patient-Reported Outcome Measures (PROM) and Patient-Reported Experience Measures (PREM) in Home Respiratory Therapies:…

2021

Introduction: Home respiratory therapies (HRT) are treatments aimed at diseases that are generally chronic and that have a significant impact on the biopsychosocial aspects of patients’ lives. No validated patient-reported outcome measures (PROM) and patient-reported experience measures (PREM) are available to assess the impact of these treatments on quality of life (QoL) in HRT. The objective of this work was to identify and validate PROMs and PREMs in HRT. Methods: The process was divided into 5 stages: review of the literature, patient interviews, qualitative validation workshops, cognitive validation, and psychometric validation. For the identification of PROM and PREM, consensus techni…

Früh- und Spätergebnisse der perkutanen transluminalen Angioplastie (PTA) beim Diabetiker

1991

Results of 127 iliac and femoropopliteal transluminal angioplasties in 97 diabetic patients are presented. Patients who had undergone iliac (n = 70), femoral (n = 41), and popliteal (n = 16) angioplasties for stenoses up to 15 cm long were followed up for 6-60 months. In diabetic patients presenting with only claudication or adequate runoff, the 5-year iliac patency rate was 76% and the femoral patency rate was 60%; these results were comparable with those found in non-diabetic patients. For limb salvage, 3-year patency rates were 66% for iliac, 37% for femoral, and 37% for popliteal angioplasties, and 5-year patency rates were 29% for iliac, 7% for femoral, and 0% for popliteal angioplasti…

Dopaminergic modulation of evoked vasopressin release from the isolated neurohypophysis of the rat

1982

1. Neurointermediate lobes of rat pituitaries were incubated in Locke or Krebs solution, and the vasopressin released into the medium was assayed on the blood pressure of the pithed rat or by a radioimmunological procedure. Release of vasopressin over resting levels was evoked either by incubation with 60 mM KCl (high K) solution or by electrical stimulation of the pituitary stalk. Two different kinds of electrical stimulation were carried out. Procedure A (1 ms, 10 Hz, 5 times for 1 min within 10 min) induced a vasopressin overflow which was greatly calcium-dependent but only insignificantly sensitive to tetrodotoxin (TTX). Procedure B (0.2 ms, 15 Hz, 10 s trains with 10 s intervals for 10…

Differential effects of potassium channel blockers on neurohypophysial release of oxytocin and vasopressin. Evidence for frequency-dependent interact…

1988

Isolated rat neurohypophyses were fixed by their stalks to a platinum wire electrode and superfused with Krebs-HEPES solution. Vasopressin and oxytocin released into the medium were determined by specific radioimmunoassays. Hormone secretion was increased by electrical stimulation of the pituitary stalk at different frequencies. The effects of several potassium channel blockers, tetraethylammonium (TEA) ions, 4-aminopyridine (4-AP) and 3,4-diaminopyridine (3,4-DAP) were tested. The release of vasopressin and oxytocin evoked by electrical stimulation with 900 pulses at 15 Hz (about 900 and 1,000 μU, respectively) was about 10 times higher than that evoked by 900 pulses at 3 Hz. Both 10 and 3…

The hypothalamic magnocellular neurosecretory system in developing rats

2009

Studies concerning the development of the magnocellular system are scarce and discordant in literature. We carried out an immunohistochemical study on supraotic and paraventricular hypothalamic nuclei using antivasopressin and antioxytocin antibodies in developing rats between the 15th day of intrauterine life and the 6th day of postnatal life. In addition, we performed RT-PCR experiments to establish the stage at which these hormones appear and neurosecretory activity commences. The results showed that supraoptic and paraventricular nuclei appear, respectively, on the 16th and the 18th day of intrauterine life and both immediately synthetize vasopressin neurohormone. By contrast, synthesis…
