A Singular Multi-Grid Iteration Method for Bifurcation Problems

We propose an efficient technique for the numerical computation of bifurcating branches of solutions of large sparse systems of nonlinear, parameter-dependent equations. The algorithm consists of a nested iteration procedure employing a multi-grid method for singular problems. The basic iteration scheme is related to the Lyapounov-Schmidt method and is widely used for proving the existence of bifurcating solutions. We present numerical examples which confirm the efficiency of the algorithm.

Nitrogen fixation and methanotrophy in forest mosses along a N deposition gradient

Abstract Nitrogen deposition has decreased the plant-associated nitrogen (N 2 ) fixation when measured using the indirect acetylene reduction assay (ARA). However, nitrogen deposition can also lead to changes in the diversity of moss symbionts, e.g. affect methanotrophic N 2 fixation, which is not measured by ARA. To test this hypothesis we compared ARA with the direct stable isotope method ( 15 N 2 incorporation) and studied methanotrophy in two mosses, Hylocomium splendens and Pleurozium schreberi , collected from seven forest sites along a boreal latitudinal N deposition transect. A Novel Technique Using Polytetrafluoroethylene Tape to Solve Screw Loosening Complication in Implant-Supported Single Crowns

This study aimed to analyze a novel technique to make screws with greater untightening resistance and to solve screw loosening in implant-supported single crowns. Thirty grade IV titanium straight abutments were screwed onto 30 external hex implants using grade IV titanium screws (30 Ncm). They were exposed to cyclic loading (300,000 cycles, 200 N). Samples were divided into 4 groups (15 samples per group): new screws (SCREW group) (control), reused screws (rSCREW group), new screws wrapped with polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) tape (PTFE group), and reused screws wrapped with PTFE tape (rPTFE group). Dynamical analysis of anisotropic inflation

Inflaton coupling to a vector field via the $f^2(\phi)F_{\mu\nu}F^{\mu\nu}$ term is used in several contexts in the literature, such as to generate primordial magnetic fields, to produce statistically anisotropic curvature perturbation, to support anisotropic inflation and to circumvent the $\eta$-problem. Here, I perform dynamical analysis of such a system allowing for most general Bianchi I initial conditions. I also confirm the stability of attractor equilibrium points in phase-space directions that had not been investigated before.

Functional Analysis Method for Nonlinear Theory of Gyrotrons

This paper proposes an analyzing method for the nonlinear theory of gyrotrons based on the functional analysis theory. This method is computationally efficient and highly practical, and the results have good accuracy as that of the self-consistent theory. Moreover, the stability of the gyrotron can be easily analyzed by the trajectory of the mapped efficiency space based on the fixed point of the functional analysis theory. The validity and effectiveness of the presented method are verified by the results of self-consistent theory and experiments presented in the references, such as typical examples of gyrotrons working at various frequencies and modes.

The COMPASS experiment at CERN

The COMPASS experiment makes use of the CERN SPS high-intensitymuon and hadron beams for the investigation of the nucleon spin structure and the spectroscopy of hadrons. One or more outgoing particles are detected in coincidence with the incoming muon or hadron. A large polarized target inside a superconducting solenoid is used for the measurements with the muon beam. Outgoing particles are detected by a two-stage, large angle and large momentum range spectrometer. Some common fixed point results for weakly compatible mappings in cone metric type space

In this paper we consider cone metric type spaces which are introduced as a generalization of symmetric and metric spaces by Khamsi and Hussain in 2010. Then we prove several common fixed point for weakly compatible mappings in cone metric type spaces. All results are proved in the settings of a solid cone, without the assumption of continuity of the mappings.

We investigate how differences in set-up costs of various types affect the trade-off between global efficiency and spatial equity and show that the standard assumption of symmetry in fixed costs masks the existence of an interesting effect: the range of available varieties varies depends on the spatial distribution of firms. In such a setting, even when the market outcome leads to excessive agglomeration under symmetric fixed costs, a planner opts for asymmetric fixed costs and more agglomeration. The reason is that the losses induced by more agglomeration are offset by the gains due to additional product variety.

<i>Background:</i> This phase II trial was conducted to determine the activity and safety of the combination of fixed-dose rate (FDR) gemcitabine and capecitabine in metastatic biliary tract cancer (BTC) patients. <i>Methods:</i> Patients with unresectable BTC who had pathologically confirmed adenocarcinoma, no prior chemotherapy, Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG) performance status ≤1 and measurable disease were enrolled.
