Behavior adaptation and selection.

2010

6 pages; The evolutionary approach to behavior is concerned with the evolutionary origin and adaptive function of behavioral traits. Like any other part of the phenotype, behavior can be shaped by natural selection to produce adaptations. However, behavior often shows large phenotypic variation and flexibility, and can be both – subject to selection and a major agent of selection. Therefore, the study of adaptation and evolution of behavior is a particularly complex one, involving a wide range of methodologies and techniques, including mathematical modeling, comparative methods, phenotypic engineering, quantitative genetics, genetic dissection, and artificial selection.

The extension of collective agreements in France, Portugal and Spain

2020

This article examines the role of extension provisions for collective agreements in France, Portugal and Spain, three countries that have faced pressure to introduce more flexibility in their employment regimes during recent economic crises. The article establishes the continuing importance of extension provisions for maintaining high bargaining coverage in all three countries and traces the origin of national differences in their evolution to the strategies of the various actors, governments, employers and trade unions, and the context in which they are operating. It also looks at the characteristics of the extension regulations themselves.Cet article examine le rôle des mécanismes d’exten…

Shell structure and the fluctuation of the nuclear density distribution

1984

We investigate the relation between the density-fluctuations in nuclei and their description by single-particle models, i.e. the shell model and the Hartree-Fock method; the question is whether every shell-structure necessarily leads to those fluctuations. We demonstrate the flexibility of the single-particle models by constructing a shell-model potential and an effective Hartree-Fock potential, respectively, which produce completely flat distributions without any density fluctuation; this means that “shell structure” is not sufficient an explanation for the fluctuations. Only the additional requirement that the dynamical features of nuclei are also met selects a subclass of “reasonable” po…

SmartCampus Project

2017

The aim of the SmartCampus project is to create an environment which enables high-quality, flexible and effective studying, both as traditional face-to-face and online. A focal result of the project is the CiNetCampus environment, developed in connection with the Master’s education in mathematical information technology. It increase flexibility in education with the help of video lectures and add interactivity to lecture videos. It was also possible to integrate other functionalities to the environment that are useful for teaching and studying. This paper focuses on the presentation of the CiNetCampus environment and the functionalities implemented for it. The paper also highlights the impa…

Modeling Requirements for Future CASE

1995

In this paper we discuss some requirements for future CASE Computer Aided Software/Systems Engineering environments. These requirements include increased modifiability and flexibility as well as support for process and agent models. We claim that they can only be addressed by developing more powerful representation and modeling techniques. As a possible basis for modeling various techniques, we outline a general information architecture for a future CASE environment. In addition, we propose primitive types for specifying techniques, the development process, and agent models, and use these types for modeling an example methodology and examine how the requirements are or can be supported in o…

HOLONIC PRODUCTION SYSTEM TO OBTAIN FLEXIBILITY FOR CUSTOMER SATISFACTION

2008

The Holonic Production System (HPS) can be a valid choice to overcome the problems of traditional production sys-tems’ architectures, thanks to its capability to adapt and react to changes in the business environment whilst being able to maintain systemic synergies and coordination. The HPS is made of holons seen as functional production units which are simultaneously autonomous and cooperative. Although the holonic approach could represent a valid solution in order to pursue the necessary levels of agility of production systems, they have been scarcely implemented in practice and even less studied from a business studies perspective. The purpose of this discussion paper is to show the bene…

Context Aware Mobile Learning as a Factor for Economic Growth

2015

Abstract Mobile technologies have become an integral tool for communication and information delivery. It transformed educational paradigms from traditional one-size-fits-all to personalized and context aware learning. Such education can support human resources development, resulting in improved outcomes. Quality of education and working skills are the important driving force for economic development. This paper deals with the role of mobile learning in education, which is unique in terms of flexibility of time and location, but it requires extra planning and analyses of appropriate technologies during learning design process. The contextual information can be static, but some parts are dyna…

Process support in MetaCASE: implementing the conceptual basis for enactable process models in MetaEdit+

2002

This study concerns the support of information system analysis and design process in a metaCASE environment. We see a process as highly, evolutionary and unstructural in nature, thus requiring the tailorability of user process models and their conceptual basis, process modelling language (PML). In addition to the flexibility needed for guiding various system developers, the CASE environment needs to be enacted using strictly defined environment actions. A distinction between user and environment processes is made, hence distinguishing also their conceptual basis and modelling requirements. The study depicts the realisation of the basic concepts and tools required in modelling a PML and the …
