Intervening in domestic violence : interprofessional collaboration among social and health care professionals and the police
2021
Encountering domestic violence victims, perpetrators and witnesses in the multiprofessional fields of health and social care and policing includes various challenges. Each professional group perceives domestic violence from its own perspective, linked to its position in the field, core tasks, institutional practices and organizational structures. In this study, we examine interprofessional collaboration among Finnish social and health care professionals and police officers, focusing on the practices and conceptions concerning domestic violence interventions. The data consists of 16 focus group interviews, involving a total of 67 interviewees from social and health care professions and the p…
Development of a modular room-temperature hydride storage system for vehicular applications
2016
The subject of this paper concerns the development of a vehicular hydrogen tank system, using a commercial interstitial metal hydride as storage material. The design of the tank was intended to feed a fuel cell in a light prototype vehicle, and the chosen hydride material, Hydralloy C5 by GfE, was expected to be able to absorb and desorb hydrogen in a range of pressure suitable for this purpose. A systematic analysis of the material in laboratory scale allows an extrapolation of the thermodynamic and reaction kinetics data. The following development of the modular tank was done according to the requirements of the prototype vehicle propulsion system and led to promising intermediate results…
Transcranial Doppler and Cortical Microcirculation at Increased Intracranial Pressure and during the Cushing Response
1995
The effect of increased intracranial pressure on the flow velocity of the basilar artery was measured with transcranial ultrasonic Doppler in New Zealand White rabbits under alpha-chloralose anesthesia and artificial respiration. Laser Doppler flowmetry served to study changes of the cortical microcirculation. The results confirm a high inverse correlation of the diastolic flow velocity, the pulsatility index, and the resistance index with the cerebral perfusion pressure (CPP). During acute intracranial hypertension, however, these parameters do not show a good correlation with the local cortical blood flow. The absence of a correlation was evident over a wide CPP range down to values of 35…
Experimental and numerical evaluation of sandwich composite structures
2004
The main problem working with sandwich composite structures is their intrinsic anisotropy and non-homogeneity that does not allow their correct modelling. Nowadays the available data on mechanical properties of complex structures, necessary to allow a correct and reliable design, are not sufficient. The aim of the present work is to extend the knowledge of mechanical properties both on single components and on complete structures, focusing on the effects induced by different kind of skin arrangements (Kevlar, glass and carbon fibres). Compressive, shear and flexural tests were performed for a complete static mechanical characterisation of the sandwich structure both on each single component…
Visually produced locomotion in an autokinetic setup.
1987
On individual ttials, 15 subjects stood G m before a minicomputer screen displaying a colon in a completely darkened room Subjects were aware that the light source wzs stationary. They were instructed to fixate the colon and to perform nonlocomotive jogging in place for 2 min. and continuously to report their sensations. Room lights were turned on after 30 sec., and subjects' deviations from their starting places were measured. All subjects had moved toward the light source (M = 4.42 m, SD = .43) although they were convinced that they had not moved. Instead, they had reported either the light source approached them or the light source became larger and/or more intense. On a second trial, su…
Characterization of micromixing in a Continuous Oscillatory Baffled Reactor
2018
International audience; Micromixing is the limiting step in the progress of fast reactions and fast crystallization processes. Micromixing performance of a Nitech© glass COBR has been characterized using the competing parallel iodide-iodate test reactions. Macromixing length was also qualitatively determined by visualization of a tracer. The results show that an increase in the amplitude to baffle space ratio and a decrease of oscillation frequency improves mixing performance.
Basics of Ion Scattering in Nanoscale Materials
2009
Energetic ions interact with materials by collisions with the nuclei and electrons of the atoms that make up the material. In these collisions, energy and momentum is transferred from the projectile particle, which is a moving atom or ion, to the target particles (atomic nucleus or electron). Each collision leads to a slowing down of the moving projectile and also a deflection of the trajectory that gives rise to the term scattering, which is often used synonymously to describe the energy transfer process.
Radiation effects on optical frequency domain reflectometry fiber-based sensor
2015
International audience; We investigate the radiation effects on germanosilicate optical fiber acting as the sensing element of optical frequency domain reflectometry devices. Thanks to a new setup permitting to control temperature during irradiation, we evaluate the changes induced by 10 keV x rays on their Rayleigh response up to 1 MGy in a temperature range from −40°C up to 75°C. Irradiation at fixed temperature points out that its measure is reliable during both irradiation and the recovery process. Mixed temperature and radiation measurements show that changing irradiation temperature leads to an error in distributed measurements that depends on the calibration procedure. These results …
Fruit quality and volatile fraction of ‘Pink Lady’ apple trees in response to rootstock vigor and partial rootzone drying
2008
BACKGROUND: Partial rootzone drying (PRD) is a novel deficit irrigation technique consisting in the alternated wetting of only one side of the rootzone, which induces partial stomatal closure and increased water use efficiency. The effect of PRD and rootstock vigor on ‘Pink Lady’ apple fruit quality and aroma profile was studied using solid-phase micro-extraction in headspace and gas chromatography/mass spectrometry. RESULTS: PRD irrigation generally did not affect quality attributes, whereas it influenced the aroma of the apple fruit. In particular, PRD improved the aroma of the fruit flesh, while it decreased the volatile fraction in the peel, where most of the compounds are concentrated.…
