Digital Wisdom Development and Self-reflection of Teacher Candidates
2023
Being digitally wise allows today’s students not only to strengthen their natural abilities through existing technologies, but also to respond appropriately to learning networks that are increasingly complex. As a result, it is crucial that teachers and educators continually update and expand their professional knowledge base and improve their practices in order to meet the learning needs of their increasingly diverse students. The research has been conducted during the academic year 2021–2022 with the participation of 1173 teacher trainees enrolled in the Primary Education Degree Program at the University of Palermo. The trainees carried out their activities through digital tools. Brown an…
Quantifying the thermo-mechanical impact of plume arrival on continental break-up
2013
Abstract The arrival of a plume head at Earth's continental lithosphere is often considered to be an important factor for continental break-up. However, the impact of plume impingement on strength and duration of a rift remains unclear. In this study, we quantify the mechanical and thermal influence of a plume (i.e. lithosphere erosion) on continental break-up. To do that we apply the three-dimensional numerical code SLIM3D that features realistic elasto-visco-plastic rheology. We model the thermo-mechanical response of a segment of Earth's lithosphere that is affected both by extension as well as plume-related lithosphere erosion in order to evaluate the influence on the overall force budg…
Dip Pen Lithography of oligonucleotides on flexible substrates for point-of-care malaria disease testing
2015
The first step for prevention and treatment of diseases is the accurate diagnosis. However, proper diagnostic technologies are not available in developing countries due to the lack of reliable electrical power, refrigeration and trained personnel. For this reason, there is an urgent need of low cost, rapid assays not requiring any external support. By coupling such technologies to communication infrastructures, healthcare in areas without access to medical personnel would be possible. “Paper” like substrates are ideal for fabricating such devices since they are cheap, easy to degradate after use and compatible with most of existing printing technologies [1]. We had previously shown the poss…
On the Shuffle of Star-Free Languages
2012
Motivated by the general problem to characterize families of languages closed under shuffle, we investigate some conditions under which the shuffle of two star-free languages is star-free. Some of the special cases here approached give rise to new problems in combinatorics on words.
Basic Sequences in the Dual of a Fréchet Space

Banach spaces which are somewhat uniformly noncreasy
2003
AbstractWe consider a family of spaces wider than r-UNC spaces and we give some fixed point results in the setting of these spaces.
On the construction of Ljusternik-Schnirelmann critical values in banach spaces
1991
w h e r e f a n d g are functionals on a Banach space X, are considered in many papers. The existence theorems are based on the existence of a critical vector with respect to the manifold M,={xEX: f(x)=r}. Morse theory can often be used to obtain precise information about the behaviour of the functional close to the critical level. However, this would limit the study to Hilbert spaces and functions with nondegenerate critical points. These assumptions are not always satisfied in applications and are not rleeded when applying the Ljusternik--Schnirelmann theory. Therefore, Ljusternik--Schnirelmann theory has been widely used to study various nonlinear eigenvalue problems. Very general result…
Monotone Relations, Fixed Points and Recursive Definitions
2008
The paper is concerned with reflexive points of relations. The significance of reflexive points in the context of indeterminate recursion principles is shown.
