Flexural behaviour of external R/C steel fibre reinforced beam-column joints
2011
ABSTRACT A softened strut-and-tie macro model able to reproduce the flexural behaviour of external beam-column joint is presented. The model is specific for concrete with hooked steel fibres (FRC) and it is designed to calculate the flexural response, as load-deflection curve, of a beam-column sub-assemblages. The model considers the presence of a constant vertical load acting on the column and of a monotonically increasing lateral force applied at the tip of the beam.
Research on ecological design to enhance comfort in open spaces of a city (Valencia, Spain). Utility of the physiological equivalent temperature (PET)
2013
For many years now, research has focused on issues concerning making cities easier to live in and some of the most important of these concern climatology and thermal comfort issues. There is also a growing awareness of the importance of open spaces and green areas, as key elements in providing opportunities for human interaction, leisure and physical exercise. They are important for all inhabitants, but particularly so for children and the elderly population. Of especial interest are the studies which have examined the interaction of comfort with the urban climate. This issue was studied throughout the twentieth century, but recently the role which can be played by biometeorological indices…
Intermittent Horner's syndrome on alternate sides: a hint for locating spinal lesions.
1980
A patient with a cervical intramedullary ependymoma is described who exhibited a Horner's syndrome on alternate sides. Pharmacological study demonstrated damage to the pre-ganglionic sympathetic neurons. Disregarding cases with the Shy-Drager syndrome, three comparable case reports have been found in the literature where the fluctuating expression of Horner's syndrome, alternating from one side to the other, was attributable to a lesion of the cervical spinal cord. In contrast to the present patient, the pharmacological responses of these patients indicated a lesion of the central sympathetic pathway.
Moral and Civic Education. The New School’s Contribution
2014
Our aim is to establish a reflexive analysis about the way in which the New Education’s movement understands morality and the way it is meant to be taught, as well as its particular entail with civic education. We offer a synthesis of the investigation, which has its base on some not vey spread primary sources of authors and institutional organs of the movement. With it we clarify the meaning and the ways through which pedagogical currents shaped, in the beginning of the 20th century, a new way of conceiving the practice of these formative areas. We also identify the perspectives of methodological renovation that in this moment arose. These contributions, the result of which are summarized …
The scientific status of qualitative
2009
This work is focused on the Scientific Status of Qualitative. In our opinions, it constitutes the broadest level our work can be organised into, the most general epistemological frame, within which the specific spheres of application and of research take on a more comprehensive meaning and a more correct capacity of explication. The paradigm of complessity represents, in fact, both at theoretical-epistemological and methodological level, a fundamental reference point in tackling the issue of psychology in a more appropriate way. It, starting from a comprehensive analytical review of the paradigm of “classical” science and of the principles and tools of the experimental method (Morin, 1983; …
Decisions of higher education students according to the social environment. A conjecture based on reflexivity, biograficity and empirical research
2019

2020
How is a specific type of emotion-related work conducts formed today? What principles guide these conducts and what effects do they have on those who work? The study of Contact Center agents allows us to understand how a set of personal qualities such as patience and good treatment of others, certain desires and personal impulses or even intimate sensations such as anguish or individual expectations have become managerialized emotions that end up modifying the inner attitudes of these agents. Within this framework, we propose a theoretical approach that integrates the work of Weber, Foucault and Elias, which invites us to reflect on a socio-emotional manner of leading one?s life (Lebensfu?h…
Le repas à l'épreuve du cancer : une rédéfinition sensorielle, sensible et symbolique
2015
This contribution is focused on patients' food practices affected by cancer and cure. The led analyses wish to understand the break linked to the disease and cures to question ways either sensory or symbolic which determine the food choices.
Skin innervation at different depths correlates with small fibre function but not with pain in neuropathic pain patients
2012
Background: Neuropathy can lead not only to impaired function but also to sensory sensitization. We aimed to link reduced skin nerve fibre density in different levels to layer-specific functional impairment in neuropathic pain patients and tried to identify pain-specific functional and structural markers. Methods: In 12 healthy controls and 36 patients with neuropathic pain, we assessed clinical characteristics, thermal thresholds (quantitative sensory testing) and electrically induced pain and axon reflex erythema. At the most painful sites and at intra-individual control sites, skin biopsies were taken and innervation densities in the different skin layers were assessed. Moreover, neurona…
