Intrahepatic Chemotherapy in Isolated Liver Metastases
1983
Most malignant liver tumors in Europe are of metastatic origin. The failure of early detection renders most of these tumors nonresectable at the time of diagnosis.
Aspetti etici e controllo di gestione dei farmaci antibiotici antibatterici
2010
Summary Introduction Antibacterial prescribing practices between 2004 and 2008 were investigated in the P. Giaccone University Hospital in Palermo, Italy to provide a foundation for critical analysis of the appropriateness of health-care resource usage. Materials and methods Antibiotic prescribing practices between 2004 and 2008 were analyzed in the hospital as a whole and in different specialty areas. Results were expressed as defined daily doses (DDD) as a function of bed-days, number of admissions, and Diagnosis Related Group (DRG) points. Results During the study period, increases were observed in the overall DDD per 100 bed-days (68.7 vs. 91.3) and the DDD per admission (4.53 vs. 5.54)…
Use of delamanid for M/XDR-TB treatment under programmatic conditions in Latvia
2016
Introduction. Since 2014 Delamanid (Dlm) was introduced in M/XDR-TB treatment under programmatic conditions. The aim of this study was to analyse experience of Dlm use. Methods. For all MDR-TB cases treatment regimens (Tx) are designed by MDR-TB expert committee. Dlm is prescribed for patients with risk of failure of Tx due to resistance or severe intolerance of key 2 nd line drugs. We analysed clinical and demographic data for all patients who received Dlm during the period of July 2014 to February 2016. Data were collected from patient9s medical records. Results. In total 20 MDR TB patients received Dlm: 3 female and 17 male with median age 46 years, including 2 children (11 and 13 years …
ComparativeIn Vitroevaluation of cumulative release of the urinary antiseptics Nalidixic acid, Pipemidic acid, Cinoxacin, and norfloxacin from white …
1994
AbstractThe in vitro diffusion of nalidixic acid (1), pipemidic acid (2), cinoxacin (3), and norfloxacin (4) was studied. The transfer rate constants (kd) from simulated gastro-intestinal juices to simulated plasma, throughout artificial wall lipid membranes, were defined. The kd values suggested that the four drugs are absorbed both in gastric and intestinal environments in similar amounts. To obtain lack of gastric unwanted effects white beeswax microspheres containing 1, 2, 3, and 4 were investigated as a vehicle for the drug intestinal release; they were prepared by the meltable dispersion process using wetting agents. Discrete, reproducible free flowing microspheres were obtained. The …
Ciprofloxacin releasing gellan gum/polydopamine based hydrogels with near infrared activated photothermal properties.
2021
Abstract In this work, with the aim to obtain a wound dressing hydrogel, an amine derivative of gellan gum was crosslinked in the presence of 4arm-polyethylenglycole-vinylsulfone. Through this easy and reproducible chemical procedure, a hydrogel with advanced elastic properties and hydrolytic resistance under physiological conditions was obtained. The incorporation of different quantities of polydopamine in the gelling solutions allows to obtain different hydrogels with marked photothermal properties when irradiated with a laser in the near infrared at 810 nm. The organic nanoparticles, reacting with the amino groups of the polysaccharide derivative, contribute to increase the storage modul…
Antimicrobial thermoplastic materials for biomedical applications prepared by melt processing
2014
In this work thermoplastic polymers with antimicrobial properties were prepared by incorporating an antibiotic, i.e., ciprofloxacin (CFX), by melt processing. Two different polymers were used as matrices, i.e., polypropylene (PP) and poly(lactid acid) (PLA) and different concentrations of CFX have been incorporated. The antimicrobial properties, the release kinetic and the mechanical performances of the prepared materials were evaluated.
Transintestinal secretion of ciprofloxacin, grepafloxacin and sparfloxacin: in vitro and in situ inhibition studies.
2003
The influence of the secretion process on the absorption of ciprofloxacin, grepafloxacin and sparfloxacin has been evaluated by means of inhibition studies. Two well known P-glycoprotein inhibitors (cyclosporine, verapamil), a mixed inhibitor of P-glycoprotein and the organic cation transporter OCT1 (quinidine) and a well established MRP substrate (p-aminohipuric acid) have been selected in order to distinguish the possible carriers implicated. An in situ rat gut perfusion model and CACO-2 permeability studies are used. Both methods suggest the involvement of several types of efflux transporters for every fluoroquinolone. The relevance of the secretory pathway depends on the intrinsic perme…
Comparison of three solid-phase extraction processes in quantification of ciprofloxacin and enrofloxacin in pork meat
2012
Due to strong implications for food safety, control of fluoroquinolones residues in swine meat should be undertaken to verify compliance of the contamination levels with the maximum residue limits recently updated by Commission Regulation (EU) No. 37/2010 of 22 December 2009. Solid-phase extraction is widely used in antibiotic analysis in food of animal origin. In this study, the results of a comparative study using different types of solid-phase extraction columns, HLB, MCX, and MAX, for ciprofloxacin and enrofloxacin analysis, in pork meat, are presented. In addition, diverse sample treatments for defatting, precipitate proteins, eliminate cations, and increase the ionic strength, were us…
Ciprofloxacin Polymers Derived from Diallyltin and Divinyltin Dihalides
2008
The initial synthesis of condensation polymers from newly available divinyltin dichloride and diallyltin dichloride and ciprofloxacin is accomplished employing a modified interfacial polycondensation process. The polymeric (DP are about 2,000) products are rapidly (less than 15 seconds) formed in good yield. Infrared spectroscopy shows the formation of Sn-O and Sn-N bonds as predicted from the proposed structure. F-MALDI MS also shows ion fragments containing organotin in the predicted isotopic abundances as well as ion fragments containing both organotin and ciprofloxacin. The polymers exhibit low toxicity towards healthy WI-38 cells with variable toxicities towards a variety of cancer cel…
Integron and genotype patterns of quinolones-resistant uropathogenic Escherichia coli
2011
Uropathogenic Escherichia coli are the most common cause of urinary tract infections, and quinolones-resistant strains cause growing concern in developing countries. This study provides relevant data in relation to the molecular epidemiology of these isolateswith respect to the distribution of integron among them and in doing so, to control the infections and adopt efficient strategies. This study was performed on 96 strains of E. coliisolated from patients with community acquired urinary tract infections in Jahrom, Iran. Having determined the antibiotic susceptibility patterns, isolates were resistant to quinolones (Ciprofloxacin, Norfloxacin and Nalidixic acid) screened for integron classe…
