Copper(ii) and zinc(ii) dependent effects on Aβ42 aggregation: a CD, Th-T and SFM study

2013

A? aggregation is a central event in Alzheimer's disease (AD). In vitro evidence indicates that A? aggregation and fibrillogenesis are significantly influenced by the employed experimental conditions. Indeed, although it is widely established that metal ions, such as copper and zinc, have significant effects on the A? aggregation process, their actual role in A? fibrillogenesis is still debated. In this work the effects of a molar excess of zinc(ii) and/or copper(ii) ions on the A?42 aggregation process and the morphology of the resultant aggregates have been compared in samples exhibiting different initial conformations. CD spectroscopy, Th-T-induced fluorescence and Scanning Force Microsc…

Trait impulsivity associated with altered resting-state functional connectivity within the somatomotor network

2020

Knowledge of brain mechanisms underlying self-regulation can provide valuable insights into how people regulate their thoughts, behaviors, and emotional states, and what happens when such regulation fails. Self-regulation is supported by coordinated interactions of brain systems. Hence, behavioral dysregulation, and its expression as impulsivity, can be usefully characterized using functional connectivity methodologies applied to resting brain networks. The current study tested whether individual differences in trait impulsivity are reflected in the functional architecture within and between resting-state brain networks. Thirty healthy individuals completed a self-report measure of trait im…

Influence of Musical Expertise on the processing of Musical Features in a Naturalistic Setting

2019

Musical training causes structural and functional changes in the brain due to its sensory-motor demands, but the modulatory effect of musical training on music feature processing in the brain in a continuous music listening paradigm, has not been investigated thus far. In this work, we investigate the differences between musicians and non-musicians in the encoding of musical features encompassing musical timbre, rhythm and tone. 18 musicians and 18 non-musicians were scanned using fMRI while listening to 3 varied stimuli. Acoustic features corresponding to timbre, rhythm and tone were computationally extracted from the stimuli and correlated with brain responses, followed by t-tests on grou…

On the construction of classes of suffix trees for square matrices: Algorithms and applications

1995

Given an n × n TEXT matrix with entries defined over an ordered alphabet σ, we introduce 4n−1 classes of index data structures for TEXT. Those indices are informally the two-dimensional analog of the suffix tree of a string [15], allowing on-line searches and statistics to be performed on TEXT. We provide one simple algorithm that efficiently builds any chosen index in those classes in O(n2 log n) worst case time using O(n2) space. The algorithm can be modified to require optimal O(n2) expected time for bounded σ.

An integrated methodological approach for optimising complex systems subjected to predictive maintenance

2021

Abstract The present paper addresses the relevant topic of maintenance management, widely recognised as a fundamental issue involving complex engineering systems and leading companies towards the optimisation of their assets while pursuing cost efficiency. With this regard, our research aims to provide companies with a hybrid methodological approach based on Multi-Criteria Decision-Making (MCDM) capable to deal with the main failures potentially involving complex systems subjected to predictive maintenance. Such an approach is going to be integrated within the framework of traditional Failure Mode Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA), whose strengths and weaknesses are considered. In pa…

Linear-size suffix tries

2016

Suffix trees are highly regarded data structures for text indexing and string algorithms [MCreight 76, Weiner 73]. For any given string w of length n = | w | , a suffix tree for w takes O ( n ) nodes and links. It is often presented as a compacted version of a suffix trie for w, where the latter is the trie (or digital search tree) built on the suffixes of w. Here the compaction process replaces each maximal chain of unary nodes with a single arc. For this, the suffix tree requires that the labels of its arcs are substrings encoded as pointers to w (or equivalent information). On the contrary, the arcs of the suffix trie are labeled by single symbols but there can be Θ ( n 2 ) nodes and lin…

Distinct Patterns of Functional Connectivity During the Comprehension of Natural, Narrative Speech.

2020

Recent continuous task studies, such as narrative speech comprehension, show that fluctuations in brain functional connectivity (FC) are altered and enhanced compared to the resting state. Here, we characterized the fluctuations in FC during comprehension of speech and time-reversed speech conditions. The correlations of Hilbert envelope of source-level EEG data were used to quantify FC between spatially separate brain regions. A symmetric multivariate leakage correction was applied to address the signal leakage issue before calculating FC. The dynamic FC was estimated based on a sliding time window. Then, principal component analysis (PCA) was performed on individually concatenated and te…

Interchannel Interference and Mitigation in Distributed MIMO RF Sensing

2021

In this paper, we analyze and mitigate the cross-channel interference, which is found in multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) radio frequency (RF) sensing systems. For a millimeter wave (mm-Wave) MIMO system, we present a geometrical three-dimensional (3D) channel model to simulate the time-variant (TV) trajectories of a moving scatterer. We collected RF data using a state-of-the-art radar known as Ancortek SDR-KIT 2400T2R4, which is a frequency-modulated continuous wave (FMCW) MIMO radar system operating in the K-band. The Ancortek radar is currently the only K-band MIMO commercial radar system that offers customized antenna configurations. It is shown that this radar system encounters th…
