The relationships between lipid ratios and arterial stiffness

Although dyslipidemia is associated with cardiovascular disease, there are conflicting data about the role of serum lipids and their ratios in promoting arterial stiffness. The authors aimed to compare serum lipid profiles to predict arterial stiffness, which was assessed by brachial‐ankle pulse wave velocity in young Chinese men. Arterial stiffness and ischemic stroke in subjects with and without metabolic syndrome.

We conducted a study to evaluate arterial stiffness markers in subjects with acute ischemic stroke and metabolic syndrome and in relation to TOAST subtype of stroke. We enrolled 130 patients with acute ischemic stroke and metabolic syndrome, 127 patients with acute ischemic stroke without metabolic syndrome and 120 control subjects without acute stroke. Progression of aortic pulse wave velocity in patients with chronic kidney disease.

Aortic pulse wave velocity (aPWV) is elevated in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) and predicts cardiovascular risk. However, the natural progression of arterial stiffness in these patients remains uncertain. Therefore, the main aim of this study was to investigate the development of aPWV and to identify potential factors associated with its progression. aPWV measurement was carried out in 70 CKD patients at baseline and after 12 months.
