Background: Several school fruit programs are initiated with the aim to improve diet and thereby contribute to reduce the prevalence of overweight. International audience; Pleasure from eating is known to be a strong predictor of children’s food choices. Yet, children’s food preferences generally do not align with dietary recommendations, children rate energy-dense foods as the most liked and vegetables the least liked. OBJECTIVES: Non-celiac wheat sensitivity (NCWS) is defined as a reaction to ingested wheat after exclusion of celiac disease and wheat allergy. As its pathogenesis is incompletely understood, we evaluated the inflammatory response in the rectal mucosa of patients with well-defined NCWS. METHODS: The prospective study included 22 patients with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)-like clinical presentation, diagnosed with NCWS by double-blind placebo-controlled challenge. Z kulinariami związanych jest wiele różnorodnych przesądów. W kuchni polskiej znajduje się mnóstwo składników żywieniowych, których spożywanie na przestrzeni wieków obrosło wieloma wierzeniami. W niniejszym artykule omówiono zachowania przesądne dotyczące wybranych składników żywnościowych (chleba, kapusty, ziemniaków, cukru) oraz rekwizytów kuchennych (garnków i sztućców). Zaprezentowane materiały pochodzą z dwóch źródeł: zastanych (opracowań etnograficznych wydanych przed 1945 r.) i wywołanych (zebranych podczas wywiadów prowadzonych w 2015 r. w obrębie dwóch województw - śląskiego i opolskiego).

Importance of millipedes (Diplopoda) in the autumn-winter diet of Scolopax rusticola

Authors examined the autumn-winter diet of the woodcock Scolopax rusticola from 407 gizzard samples originating from Crimea and Italy, resulting in a high number of millipedes (Diplopoda) in all the samples; this prey item was particularly important in terms of weight percentage. The authors consider that calcium, highly present in millipedes, should be an important source for the woodcocks’ metabolism during the autumn-winter seasons.
