Discriminating short-range from van der Waals forces using total force data in noncontact atomic force microscopy
2014
Noncontact atomic force microscopy (NC-AFM) features the measurement of forces with highest spatial resolution and sensitivity, resolving forces of the order of pico-Newtons with submolecular resolution. However, the measured total force is a mixture composed of various interactions. While some interactions such as electrostatic or magnetic forces can be excluded by a careful design of the experiment, the subtraction of van der Waals forces, which mainly originate from London dispersion interactions between the macroscopic tip shank and the bulk sample, remains a challenge. We present the determination of the inherently present van der Waals forces in total interaction force data from fitti…
Nonlocal field correlations and dynamical Casimir-Polder forces between one excited- and two ground-state atoms
2006
The problem of nonlocality in the dynamical three-body Casimir-Polder interaction between an initially excited and two ground-state atoms is considered. It is shown that the nonlocal spatial correlations of the field emitted by the excited atom during the initial part of its spontaneous decay may become manifest in the three-body interaction. The observability of this new phenomenon is discussed.
Polarity-reversal subduction zone initiation triggered by buoyant plateau obstruction
2022
Abstract Oceanic lithosphere worldwide is younger than ca. 200 Myr, suggesting that it must have been globally recycled by the recurrent formation of new subduction zones since the existence of subduction on Earth. However, postulated subduction zone initiation processes remain difficult to explain in many cases, and the specific geodynamic conditions under which these might occur are still largely unknown. We here use numerical models driven by the internal force balance of a subduction system to better understand the (geo)dynamics governing (intra-oceanic) polarity-reversal subduction zone initiation. This initiation mode assumes that the birth of a new subduction zone could be triggered …
Faktori, kas ietekmē Latvijas piena nozares konkurētspēju Baltijas valstīs
2019
This study presents competitiveness analysis and factors influencing on the competitiveness in Latvian dairy sector among the Baltic states. Gross domestic product, the number of population, demographics, trade balance, labour cost indicators of each country and numbers of manufacturers, the revenue of the sector and its growth rate, volume sold of goods and its growth rate, average volume sold per capita of products, an average price of milk and cream, an average price of yoghurt and curdled milk, an average price of cream cheese and cheese in the dairy sector of every Baltic state are compared between among them and has been commented by three experts: Inga Orlova ( representative of Mini…
À l’ombre des épées. Les seigneurs de la guerre, gardiens de la Constitution et pouvoirs régulateurs dans l’imaginaire constitutionnel haïtien
2022
Due to a militarised society between 1804 and 1915, the weight of the warlords was heavy in the foundation and maintenance of the Haitian constitutional order. Their mission as guardians is apparent since the Constitution of 1801, and the military was not content to monopolise the supreme magistracy until the US occupation in 1915. Institutional practice, however, leaves much to be desired. The military Senate was defined by President Jean-Pierre Boyer as the moderating power of the institutions between 1839 and 1842, a short-lived attempt to normalise the institutions in the hands of generals at rest. Unfortunately, the political and social climate accompanying the disintegration of the st…

Light flavor and heavy quark spin symmetry in heavy meson molecules
2012
We propose an effective field theory incorporating light SU(3)-flavor and heavy quark spin symmetry to describe charmed meson-antimeson bound states. At lowest order the effective field theory entails a remarkable simplification: it only involves contact range interactions among the heavy meson and antimeson fields. We show that the isospin violating decays of the X(3872) can be used to constrain the interaction between the D and a (D) over bar* mesons in the isovector channel. As a consequence, we can rule out the existence of an isovector partner of the X(3872). If we additionally assume that the X(3915) and Y(4140) are D*(D) over bar* and D*(s)(D) over bar*(s) molecular states, we can de…
Design and Implementation of ForCES Protocol
2017
This paper proposes the design and implementation of the ForCES protocol, specifically FP logical point of the ForCES architecture, which is strictly the communication between the CE (Control Element) and the FE (Forwarding Element). It is a flexible and reprogrammable architecture that is established within the specifications issued and defined by the ForCES working group, and consists of elaboration of a protocol that carries information between both elements. In order to comprobate the correct functioning of the implemented the ForCES protocol, is we provide a network testbed scenario, which consist an application client-server. Each device has equipped with the application which based o…
