Engagement of the periesophageal ring during Holothuria polii response to erythrocyte injection.

2009

In Holothuria polii, the periesophageal ring is an important organ supplying spherule cells after stimulation with foreign material. In animals injected with formalinized sheep erythrocytes, in fact, a depletion of spherule cells is observed in the periesophageal ring, whereas in the connective tissue, in the external epithelium and around the antigen- injected site, small, transparent cells can be visualized. It is supposed that the latter are stem cells of spherule cells.

Synthesis of 2-anilinobenzimidates, anthranilamides, and 2,3-dihydroquinazolin-4(1H)-ones from N-heterocyclic carbenes of indazole

2015

N-Heterocyclic carbenes of indazole (indazol-3-ylidenes), which are substituted at N1 with aromatics were generated in situ from the corresponding indazolium salts. At 60 °C the indazol-3-ylidenes underwent a ring-opening under N–N bond cleavage to intermediary N-(6-methylenecyclohexa-2,4-dien-1-ylidene)anilines. Trapping of these intermediates by alcohols proved to be a convenient method for the preparation of 2-anilinobenzimidates, which have scarcely been described in the literature. The reaction temperature avoids carbene dimerization, which occurs at −80 °C or rearrangement of the ring-opened intermediate to acridines, which affords 100 °C. Water converted the ring-opened products into…

Selective adsorption of formaldehyde and water vapors in NaY and NaX zeolites

2019

International audience; Coadsorption of formaldehyde and water vapors on NaX and NaY zeolites is studied at 298 K in the pressure range 0-2 hPa by manometry coupled with gas phase chromatography and calorimetry. Coadsorption isotherms, adsorption selectivities and coadsorption heats are measured. Results show that the coadsorption process is selective for water at low filling and for formaldehyde at high filling. The adsorption selectivity for formaldehyde over water is however too low to consider the possibility of using such adsorbents for the development of air handling units. On the other hand, a preliminary study carried out on the adsorption of formaldehyde and water in pure gas phase…

Control of freshwater fish louse Argulus coregoni: a step towards an integrated management strategy

2008

Harmful infections by ectoparasites of the genus Argulus occur repeatedly in freshwa- ter fish farming operations where the management has largely been ineffective. Preventative meth- ods and regular monitoring are rarely applied, so that chemical interventions become necessary. According to the Integrated Pest Management (IPM) approach, a sustainable management or control program for a parasite should be based on knowledge of the ecology of the parasite along with adop- tion of several prevention and control methods, the application of which is dependent upon the pre- vailing infection level. The application of multiple management tactics is especially important because parasites can devel…

The influence of storage method on the transparency of pig crystalline lens

2019

Este artículo se ha publicado de forma definitiva en: http://www.scielo.br/pdf/abo/v82n1/0004-2749-abo-82-01-0056.pdf Purpose: The porcine eye is frequently used as a research model. This paper analyzes the effect of different storage methods on the transparency of pig crystalline lens. Methods: A spectral transmission curve (from 220 to 780 nm) for the crystalline lens was determined experimentally after storage in different conditions: saline solution, formalin, castor oil, and freezing at -80°C. The total transmission in the visible spectrum, which was used as an index of transparency, was calculated from these curves. For comparative purposes, fresh lenses were evaluated and used as con…

A new chloroquinolinyl chalcone derivative as inhibitor of inflammatory and immune response in mice and rats

2003

AbstractThe synthetic chalcone derivative 1-(2,4-dichlorophenyl)-3-(3-(6,7-dimethoxy-2-chloroquinolinyl))-2-propen-1-one (CIDQ) was evaluated for its anti-inflammatory, analgesic and immunomodulatory efficacy in-vitro and in-vivo. CIDQ concentration-dependently inhibited the production of nitric oxide (NO) (IC50 4.3 μM) and prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) (IC50 1.8 μM) in RAW 264.7 macrophages stimulated with lipopolysaccharide. Human mononuclear cell proliferation was significantly inhibited by 10 μM CIDQ. Oral administration of CIDQ (10–30 mg kg−1) in the 24-h zymosan-stimulated mouse air-pouch model produced a dose-dependent reduction of cell migration as well as NO and PGE2 levels in exudates. …

The anti-inflammatory and antinociceptive effects of NF-κB inhibitory guanidine derivative ME10092

2010

The guanidine compound ME10092 (1-(3,4-dimethoxy-2-chlorobenzylideneamino)-guanidine) is known to possess anti-radical and anti-ischemic activity but its molecular targets have not been identified. This study investigated whether ME10092 regulates the nuclear factor kappa B (NF-kappaB)-mediated signal transduction in vivo. The effect of ME10092 treatment (1-100 pmol/mouse) on nuclear translocation of NF-kappaB, activation of expression of inflammatory mediators and production of nitric oxide were measured in the lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced brain inflammation model in mice in vivo. The antinociceptive activity of ME10092 was tested in the formalin-induced paw licking test. ME10092 dose-…

The LepR-mediated leptin transport across brain barriers controls food reward

2018

Objective Leptin is a key hormone in the control of appetite and body weight. Predominantly produced by white adipose tissue, it acts on the brain to inhibit homeostatic feeding and food reward. Leptin has free access to circumventricular organs, such as the median eminence, but entry into other brain centers is restricted by the blood–brain and blood–CSF barriers. So far, it is unknown for which of its central effects leptin has to penetrate brain barriers. In addition, the mechanisms mediating the transport across barriers are unclear although high expression in brain barriers suggests an important role of the leptin receptor (LepR). Methods We selectively deleted LepR in brain endothelia…

Antinociceptive and anti-inflammatory activities of Acacia pennata wild (Mimosaceae)

2005

The butanolic fraction of dried leaves of Acacia pennata (Mimosaceae) was tested for analgesic and anti-inflammatory activities in animal models. It showed significant protective effects against chemical stimuli (acetic acid and formalin) in the mouse. It also produced a significant increase of the threshold of sensitivity to pressure-induced pain in the rats. The extract revealed an inhibitory effect in carrageenin-induced rat paw oedema in the late phase. The results suggested that a peripheral mechanism is involved in the analgesic, associated to anti-inflammatory effect (NSAIDs-like). Among the class of compounds characterized in this fraction, flavonoids may be mainly responsible for t…
