A new video-based tool to enhance teaching economics
2018
Abstract We present a new video-based tool developed in Germany to enhance the teaching of economics. The tool consists of authentic teacher-student interactions in economics classes to which instructors need to react. With 18 videos, the tool provides an easily accessible opportunity to assess and enhance teaching performance in economics. The tool was rated by 41 highly experienced secondary school economics teachers according to different criteria relevant for curriculum design and instructional practice, including authenticity of the simulated classroom situations, and typical difficulties and misconceptions students have in learning economics. The teachers confirm the curricular and in…
Immediate elaborated feedback personalization in online assessment
2008
Providing a student with feedback that is timely, most suitable and useful for her personality and the performed task is a challenging problem of online assessment within Web-based Learning Systems (WBLSs). In our recent work we suggested a general approach of feedback adaptation in WBLS and through a series of experiments we demonstrated the possibilities of tailoring the feedback that is presented to a student as a result of her response to questions of an online test, taking into account the individual learning styles (LS), certitude in a response and correctness of this response. In this paper we present the result of the most recent experimental field study where we tested two feedback…
The Spirit of Inquiry and the Reflected Self: Theological Anthropology and the Sociology of Knowledge
1978
The general aim of an anthropology may be said to be the determination of man's characteristics in his environment. In social anthropology, however, the trend has been to emphasise the environment at the expense of man. The present article argues that a similar tendency prevails in theology's typical description of man as a ‘hearer’ of the Word of God and finds illuminating parallels in Berger and Luckmann's sociology of knowledge. The failure of these two authors to maintain a true dialectic between individual creativity and the formative influences of society appears in connection with their view of human inquiry. By developing George Kelly's model of man as an inquiring scientist, the ar…

Moral and Civic Education. The New School’s Contribution
2014
Our aim is to establish a reflexive analysis about the way in which the New Education’s movement understands morality and the way it is meant to be taught, as well as its particular entail with civic education. We offer a synthesis of the investigation, which has its base on some not vey spread primary sources of authors and institutional organs of the movement. With it we clarify the meaning and the ways through which pedagogical currents shaped, in the beginning of the 20th century, a new way of conceiving the practice of these formative areas. We also identify the perspectives of methodological renovation that in this moment arose. These contributions, the result of which are summarized …
Family Relationships, Dialogue, and Philosophy for Children:
2021
The paper deals with the importance of words and dialogue in family education. In the first part, some evidence of an action research is presented – shaped in a hermeneutic phenomenological framework and thanks to the Philosophy for Children method and materials. Then some key words are pointed out, meant as formative goals for parents’ educational support, so as to highlight the importance of dialogue among generations and, mainly, of the ethical responsibility of parents in education.
Does formative feedback on search behaviour help students in answering comprehension questions from an available text? / ¿Ayuda la retroalimentación …
2015
AbstractThis study analyses the efficacy of formative feedback to boost students’ search behaviour when answering comprehension questions in a with-text reading situation, which is a common reading situation in instructional and assessment settings. In these reading situations search strategies play an important role to predict students’ performance. Sixty-five high school students read two texts and answered eight multiple-choice comprehension questions per text using the software Read&Answer, which recorded all the students’ actions. After answering each question, students received either global-search-feedback or specific-search-feedback, which differed in the specificity of their inform…

An Attempt at Drawing an Artistic Family Tree
2021
In this chapter, the directors included in the book themselves take the floor. They reveal the major influences they have experienced as artists and, if they had to draw an artistic family tree, whom they would include on it. One of them, Krystian Lupa, has literally drawn his artistic family tree. The directors also outline the trends that have had the most formative impact on their aesthetics and work. All this is especially shared for the readers of this book. Only in the case of the late Lithuanian director Eimuntas Nekrosius is an excerpt of an existing interview used.
