2017

This article represents the outcome of a round table organized and conducted by Giacomo Tagliani about the Lessico del cinema Italiano/Lexicon of Italian Cinema (2014–2016). In this refined version, the authors who took part in that round table, that is, Roberto De Gaetano (also editor of the volumes), Massimiliano Coviello, Luca Venzi and Francesco Zucconi, outline their involvement in the research project, their s…

Depicting life, analysing the power: The ‘actuality’ of Italian cinema

2014

The increasing production of biographical films dealing with power and its figures raises interesting questions about the nature and the aims of political cinema. City Slivers: rottura e manipolazione dello spazio urbano in Matta-Clarck

2014

City Slivers (1976) by Gordon Matta-Clarck is an experimental film created by attaching black strips to the camera lens in order to cut and maniplulate de visible space of Manhattan's urban landscape. This essay discusses the traits of continuity that link the film to Matta-Clarck's previous actions of dissecting architecture (building cuts). In addiction it argues how the use the film medium renders City Slivers an action that both destabilizes and formalizes, providing extraordinary potential for the disclosure and transformation of urban space.
