Partial vinylphenol reductase purification and characterization from Brettanomyces bruxellensis

International audience; Brettanomyces is the major microbial cause for wine spoilage worldwide and causes significant economic losses. The reasons are the production of ethylphenols that lead to an unpleasant taint described as 'phenolic odour'. Despite its economic importance, Brettanomyces has remained poorly studied at the metabolic level. The origin of the ethylphenol results from the conversion of vinylphenols in ethylphenol by Brettanomyces hydroxycinnamate decarboxylase. Abstract Background A bacterial artificial chromosomal library of Planobispora rosea, a genetically intractable actinomycete strain, was constructed using Escherichia coli-Streptomyces artificial chromosome (ESAC) and screened for the presence of genes known to be involved in the biosynthesis of antibiotics. Results One clone with a 40 kb insert showed antimicrobial activity against Gram positive bacteria. Stability of genetic regulatory networks with time-varying delay: Delta operator method

This paper investigates the stability problem for a class of uncertain genetic regulatory networks (GRNs) with time-varying delay via delta operator approach. Both the parameter uncertainty and the generalized activations are considered in the model under study. By constructing an appropriate Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional, the stability and robust stability conditions of GRNs are presented under the delta operator frame. These conditions can be expressed in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). Finally, a numerical example is employed to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed results.

Reframing Climate Justice : A Three-dimensional View on Just Climate Negotiations

This article proposes reframing the justice discourse in climate negotiations. In so doing, it makes two claims. First, global climate negotiations deserve to be addressed as an issue of justice on their own due to their peculiar characteristics. Second, a multidimensional theory of justice is superior to distributional theories for this task. To support these arguments, I apply the multidimensional theory of justice to global climate negotiations. This analysis reveals that injustice in the negotiations is multidimensional and irreducible to distributional questions. Sequencing and analysis of the gene encoding the α-toxin of Clostridium novyi proves its homology to toxins A and B of Clostridium difficile

A library of total Clostridium novyi DNA was established and screened for the alpha-toxin gene (tcn alpha) by hybridization with oligonucleotides derived from a partial N-terminal sequence and by using specific antisera. Overlapping subgenic tcn alpha fragments were isolated and subsequently the total sequence of tcn alpha was determined. The 6534 nucleotide open reading frame encodes a polypeptide of M(r) 250,166 and pI 5.9.
