Dual-beam confocal light-sheet microscopy via flexible acousto-optic deflector
2019
Confocal detection in digital scanned laser light-sheet fluorescence microscopy (DSLM) has been established as a gold standard method to improve image quality. The selective line detection of a complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor camera (CMOS) working in rolling shutter mode allows the rejection of out-of-focus and scattered light, thus reducing background signal during image formation. Most modern CMOS have two rolling shutters, but usually only a single illuminating beam is used, halving the maximum obtainable frame rate. We report on the capability to recover the full image acquisition rate via dual confocal DSLM by using an acoustooptic deflector. Such a simple solution enables us t…
Dissecting and Reassembling Color Correction Algorithms for Image Stitching
2018
This paper introduces a new compositional framework for classifying color correction methods according to their two main computational units. The framework was used to dissect fifteen among the best color correction algorithms and the computational units so derived, with the addition of four new units specifically designed for this work, were then reassembled in a combinatorial way to originate about one hundred distinct color correction methods, most of which never considered before. The above color correction methods were tested on three different existing datasets, including both real and artificial color transformations, plus a novel dataset of real image pairs categorized according to …
Heavy-Ion Radiation Impact on a 4 Mb FRAM Under Different Test Modes and Conditions
2016
International audience; The impact of heavy-ions on commercial Ferroelectric Memories (FRAMs) is analyzed. The influence of dynamic and static test modes as well as several stimuli on the error rate of this memory is investigated. Static test results show that the memory is prone to temporary effects occurring in the peripheral circuitry, with a possible effect due to fluence. Dynamic tests results show a high sensitivity of this memory to switching activity of this peripheral circuitry.
Polymorphism of mytilin B mRNA is not traslated into mature peptide
2008
Diversity of mRNAs from mytilin B, one of the five mytilins identified in the Mediterranean mussel, Mytilus galloprovincialis, has been investigated from circulating hemocytes. One mussel expressed simultaneously two to ten different mytilin B mRNAs as observed in denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (DGGE), defining 10 individual DGGE patterns (named A to J) within the mussels from Messina, Sicily (Italy). Three patterns accounted for 79% of the individuals whereas other patterns were found in only 2-7% of the 57 analyzed mussels. Base mutations were observed at specific locations, mainly within COOH-terminus and 3'UTR, leading to 36 nucleotide sequence variants and 21 different coding …
Predicting the Success of Blastocyst Implantation from Morphokinetic Parameters Estimated through CNNs and Sum of Absolute Differences
2019
The process of In Vitro Fertilization deals nowadays with the challenge of selecting viable embryos with the highest probability of success in the implantation. In this topic, we present a computer-vision-based system to analyze the videos related to days of embryo development which automatically extracts morphokinetic features and estimates the success of implantation. A robust algorithm to detect the embryo in the culture image is proposed to avoid artifacts. Then, the ability of Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) for predicting the number of cells per frame is novelty combined with the Sum of Absolute Differences (SAD) signal in charge of capturing the amount of intensity changes durin…
Equilibrium geometries of cyclic SiC3 isomers
2001
Equilibrium geometries of two isomers of cyclic SiC3 are determined by both large scale ab initio calculation and a procedure involving the use of experimental data from microwave spectroscopy and calculated harmonic and cubic force fields. Internuclear distances corresponding to structures obtained by both procedures agree to better than 0.003 A in all cases, allowing for precise recommendations of equilibrium structures. Rather large residual inertial defects obtained from moments of inertia based on rotational constants adjusted for effects of vibration–rotation interaction were found to be reduced significantly by inclusion of electronic contributions as estimated from calculations of r…
Locating Objects Away from Earth Surface: Positioning Accuracy
2013
The motion of the Galileo and GPS satellite constellations is simulated in Schwarzschild space-time, whereas photons travel in Minkowski space-time. This is a good enough approach to deal with the main goal of this paper: the study of positioning accuracy in the framework of the so-called relativistic positioning. Our study is based on numerical 4D simulations. In this meeting, the contribution of J.A. Morales-Lladosa contains some basic ideas which have been important to perform our numerical calculations. For four chosen emitters (satellites) of a certain constellation, many receivers located at different distances from Earth surface and in distinct directions are considered. Thus, we ver…
A particle swarm approach for tuning washout algorithms in vehicle simulators
2018
Abstract The MCA tuning problem involves finding the most appropriate values for the parameters (or coefficients) of Motion Cueing Algorithms (MCA), also known as washout algorithms. These algorithms are designed to control the movements of the robotic mechanisms, referred to as motion platforms, employed to generate inertial cues in vehicle simulators. This problem can be approached in several different ways. The traditional approach is to perform a manual pilot-in-the-loop subjective tuning, using the opinion of several pilots/drivers to guide the process. A more systematic approach is to use optimization techniques to explore the vast parameter space of the MCA, using objective motion fi…
Long time behavior for a dissipative shallow water model
2013
We consider the two-dimensional shallow water model derived by Levermore and Sammartino (Nonlinearity 14,2001), describing the motion of an incompressible fluid, confined in a shallow basin, with varying bottom topography. We construct the approximate inertial manifolds for the associated dynamical system and estimate its order. Finally, considering the whole domain R^2 and under suitable conditions on the time dependent forcing term, we prove the L^2 asymptotic decay of the weak solutions.
