<title>Dielectric response to low and infra-low frequency in layered ferroelectrics</title>

Features of dielectric response to frequencies in the 0.25.1000 Hz range in ceramic samples of BaBi2Nb2O9, Na0,5Bi8.5Ti2Nb4O27, Na0,5Bi8.5Ti2Ta4O27, and K0,5Bi8.5Ti2Nb4O27 compounds are reported. Considerable relaxation of e'(T) and e"(T) maximums has been observed at all frequencies in BaBi2Nb2O9. Na0,5Bi8.5Ti2Nb4O27 and Na0,5Bi8.5Ti2Ta4O27 are characterised by broad maximums on e'(T) at frequencies below 100 Hz and a weak anomaly in K0,5Bi8.5Ti2Nb4O27 at temperatures well below the paraelectric phase transition. A new phase locked loop strategy for power quality instruments synchronisation

Power quality instrumentation requires the accurate fundamental frequency estimation and the signal synchronization, even in presence of disturbances. In the paper the authors present an innovative synchronization technique, based on a single phase software PLL. To evaluate how the synchronization technique is adversely affected by the application of stationary and transient disturbing influences, appropriate testing conditions have been developed, taking into account the requirements of the in-force standards. In the paper the proposed technique is described and PLL performances in presence of stationary and transient disturbances are presented
Genetic and morphological differentiation in Tephritis bardanae (Diptera: Tephritidae): evidence for host-race formation

The fruit fly Tephritis bardanae infests flower heads of two burdock hosts, Arctium tomentosum and A. minus. Observations suggest host-associated mating and behavioural differences at oviposition indicating host-race status. Previously, flies from each host plant were found to differ slightly in allozyme allele frequencies, but these differences could as well be explained by geographical separation of host plants. Visualizing a protein quake with time-resolved X-ray scattering at a free-electron laser

We describe a method to measure ultrafast protein structural changes using time-resolved wide-angle X-ray scattering at an X-ray free-electron laser. We demonstrated this approach using multiphoton excitation of the Blastochloris viridis photosynthetic reaction center, observing an ultrafast global conformational change that arises within picoseconds and precedes the propagation of heat through the protein. This provides direct structural evidence for a 'protein quake': the hypothesis that proteins rapidly dissipate energy through quake-like structural motions. peerReviewed

Analysis on the Time and Frequency Domains of the Acceleration in Front Crawl Stroke The swimming involves accelerations and decelerations in the swimmer's body. Thus, the main objective of this study is to make a temporal and frequency analysis of the acceleration in front crawl swimming, regarding the gender and the performance. The sample was composed by 31 male swimmers (15 of high-level and 16 of low-level) and 20 female swimmers (11 of high-level and 9 of low-level). Autonomous frequency stabilization of two extended cavity diode lasers at the potassium wavelength on a sounding rocket

We have developed, assembled, and flight-proven a stable, compact, and autonomous extended cavity diode laser (ECDL) system designed for atomic physics experiments in space. To that end, two micro-integrated ECDLs at 766.7 nm were frequency stabilized during a sounding rocket flight by means of frequency modulation spectroscopy (FMS) of 39^K and offset locking techniques based on the beat note of the two ECDLs. The frequency stabilization as well as additional hard- and software to test hot redundancy mechanisms were implemented as part of a state-machine, which controlled the experiment completely autonomously throughout the entire flight mission.
There's more to volatility than volume

It is widely believed that fluctuations in transaction volume, as reflected in the number of transactions and to a lesser extent their size, are the main cause of clustered volatility. Under this view bursts of rapid or slow price diffusion reflect bursts of frequent or less frequent trading, which cause both clustered volatility and heavy tails in price returns. We investigate this hypothesis using tick by tick data from the New York and London Stock Exchanges and show that only a small fraction of volatility fluctuations are explained in this manner.
