Post-Buckling Analysis of Damaged Multilayered Composite Stiffened Plates by Rayleigh-Ritz Method

2016

A Rayleigh-Ritz approach for the analysis of buckling and post-buckling behavior of cracked composite stiffened plates is presented. The structure is modeled as the assembly of plate elements modeled by the first order shear deformation theory and taking geometric nonlinearities into account through the von Karman’s theory assumptions. Continuity along the plate elements connected edges and the enforcement of rigid and elastic restraints of the plate boundaries are obtained by using penalty techniques, which also allow to straightforwardly implement efficient crack modeling strategies. General symmetric and unsymmetric stacking sequences are considered and numerical procedures have been dev…

The induction of cytochrome P450 3A5 (CYP3A5) in the human liver and intestine is mediated by the xenobiotic sensors pregnane X receptor (PXR) and co…

2004

Induction of cytochrome P450 3A (CYP3A) by xenobiotics may lead to clinically relevant drug interactions. In contrast with other CYP3A family members, studies on the inducibility of CYP3A5 indicate conflicting results. We report the induction of CYP3A5 mRNA in 13 of 16 hepatocyte preparations exposed to rifampin. Furthermore, induction of CYP3A5 mRNA was observed in intestinal biopsies in three of eight probands following exposure to the antibiotic. The highest absolute levels of CYP3A5 transcripts were found following rifampin treatment in hepatocytes and intestines from carriers of CYP3A5*1 alleles. Elucidation of the mechanism involved in CYP3A5 induction revealed that constitutively act…

Rekomendācijas aizsargājamās jūras teritorijas "Rīgas līča rietumu piekraste" monitoringa metožu uzlabošanai

2021

Numerical Simulation of Friction Stir Welding by Natural Element Methods

2008

In this work we address the problem of numerically simulating the Friction Stir Welding process. Due to the special characteristics of this welding method (i.e., high speed of the rotating pin, very large deformations, etc.) finite element methods (FEM) encounter several difficulties. While Lagrangian simulations suffer from mesh distortion, Eulerian or Arbitrary Lagrangian Eulerian (ALE) ones still have difficulties due to the treatment of convective terms, the treatment of the advancing pin, and many others. Meshless methods somewhat alleviate these problems, allowing for an updated Lagrangian framework in the simulation. Accuracy is not affected by mesh distortion (and hence the name mes…

DFT and experimental studies on structure and spectroscopic parameters of 3,6-diiodo-9-ethyl-9H-carbazole

2015

The first report on crystal and molecular structure of 3,6-diiodo-9-ethyl-9H-carbazole is presented. Experimental room-temperature X-ray and 13C chemical shift studies were supported by advanced theoretical calculations using density functional theory (DFT). The 13C nuclear magnetic shieldings were predicted at the non-relativistic and relativistic level of theory using the zeroth-order regular approximation (ZORA). Theoretical relativistic calculations of chemical shifts of carbons C3 and C6, directly bonded to iodine atoms, produced a reasonable agreement with experiment (initial deviation from experiment of 44.3 dropped to 4.25 ppm). The changes in ring aromatic character via simple harm…

Molecular modeling and experimental studies on structure and NMR parameters of 9-benzyl-3,6-diiodo-9H-carbazole

2015

A combined experimental and theoretical study has been performed on 9-benzyl-3,6-diiodo-9H-carbazole. Experimental X-ray (100.0 K) and room-temperature 13C NMR studies were supported by advanced density functional theory (DFT) calculations. The non relativistic structure optimization was performed and the 13C nuclear magnetic shieldings were predicted at the relativistic level of theory using the Zeroth Order Regular Approximation (ZORA). The changes in the benzene and pyrrole rings compared to the unsubstituted carbazole or the parent molecules were discussed in terms of aromaticity changes using the harmonic oscillator model of aromaticity (HOMA) and the nucleus independent chemical shift…

Exploring the catalytic performance of a series of bimetallic MIL-100(Fe, Ni) MOFs

2019

[EN] A series of mixed-metal Fe-III/Ni-II metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) of the MIL-100 type containing different metal ratios have been synthesized de novo, following an approach that requires tuning of the Fe-III/Ni-II reactivity. The resulting heterometallic MIL-100(Fe, Ni) materials maintain thermal, chemical and structural stability with respect to the parent MIL-100(Fe) MOF as can be deduced from various techniques. The nature and the oxidation state of the accessible metal cations have been evaluated by in situ infrared spectroscopy and extended X-ray absorption fine structure measurements. The obtained mixed-metal MOFs and the parent material have been evaluated as heterogeneous ca…

Integration of green roofs&walls in urban areas

2020

Growing urbanization is associated with the emergence of environmental problems, such as the reduction of natural resources, the atmosphere pollution and the increase of the heat islands phenomenon in cities. The integration of vegetation in the urban areas, through the creation of green hanging systems, represents a possible solution to improve the energy sustainability of buildings, to combat meteoric excesses, to improve stormwater management and to reduce pollutant levels. These energy and environmental benefits are related to the properties of evapotranspiration, shading and thermal insulation of the vegetation. The work reports the results of the main studies concerning the use of han…
