The Taming of Redox‐Labile Phosphidotitanocene Cations

International audience; Tame d0 phosphidotitanocene cations stabilized with a pendant tertiary phosphane arm are reported. These compounds were obtained by one-electron oxidation of d1 precursors with [Cp2Fe][BPh4]. The electronic structure of these compounds was studied experimentally (EPR, UV/Vis, and NMR spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction analysis) and through DFT calculations. The theoretical analysis of the bonding situation by using the electron localization function (ELF) shows the presence of π-interactions between the phosphido ligand and Ti in the d0 complexes, whereas dπ–pπ repulsion prevents such interactions in the d1 complexes. The sensing behaviour toward metal cations and biothiols of two 2,4,5-triarylimidazole probes (3a and 3b) is tested in acetonitrile and in acetonitrile-water. In acetonitrile the two probes present charge-transfer absorption bands in the 320-350 nm interval. Among all cations tested only Cu(11) is able to induce bathochromic shifts of the absorption band in the two probes, which is reflected in marked colour changes. Colour modulations are ascribed to the formation of 1:1 Cu(II)-probe complexes in which the cation interacts with the imidazole acceptor heterocycle. A visible-light photoredox functionalization of 3,4-dihydro-1,4-benzoxazin-2-ones through a Friedel-Crafts reaction with indoles using an inexpensive organophotoredox catalyst is described. The reaction uses a dual catalytic system that is formed by a photocatalyst simple and cheap, 9,10-phenanthrenedione, and a Lewis acid, Zn(OTf)2. 5W white LEDs are used as visible-light source and oxygen from air as a terminal oxidant, obtaining the corresponding products with good yields. The reaction can be extended to other electron-rich arenes. The substituent effect of π-electron delocalization in N-methylamino-nitropyridine derivatives: crystal structure and DFT calculations

AbstractThe crystal and molecular structures of 3-(N-methylamino)-2-nitropyridine, 5-(N-methylamino)-2-nitropyridine and 2-(N-methylamino)-5-nitropyridine have been characterized by X-ray diffraction. To perform conformational analysis, the geometries of the compounds as well as their conformers and rotamers were optimized at the B3LYP/6-311++G(3df,3pd) level. The resulting data were used to analyze the π-electron delocalization effect in relation to the methylamino group rotation in ortho-, meta- and para-substitution positions. Nucleophilic iodonium interactions (NIIs) in 2-coordinate iodine(i) and silver(i) complexes

The generality of nucleophilic iodonium interactions (NIIs) has been demonstrated by preparing a range of silver(i) and iodonium (I+) complexes and studying their 15N NMR chemical shifts, with the first example of a NII-complex involving a 2-coordinate silver(i) complex being confirmed by X-ray crystallography, and its nucleophilicity studied by DFT calculations.

Structural studies of homoisoflavonoids: NMR spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, and theoretical calculations

Abstract In this article we present a detailed structural investigation for five homoisoflavonoids, molecules important from the pharmacological point of view. For studying the electron distribution as well as its influence on the physicochemical properties, NMR spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, and theoretical calculations have been used. Nuclear magnetic shieldings obtained by using DFT calculations for optimized molecular geometries are correlated with the experimentally determined chemical shifts. X-ray, conformation and electronic structures of 1-nitropyrrolidine

Abstract The chemistry of pyrrolidine compounds has drawn much attention because of their biological activities. The crystal and molecular structure of 1-nitropyrrolidine (C4H8NNO2) at 150K, along with calculated structures (DFT and MP2), are reported herein. In the solid-state, the asymmetric part of the unit cell is composed of one quartermolecule at the position of two perpendicular mirror planes and the five-membered ring is disordered over a mirror plane, revealing the twisted conformation. Both geometries suggest slight sp3 hybridization of the amine nitrogen atom. Effect of quaternary ammonium salts on spectral properties of zinc octacarboxyphthalocyanine

Abstract The paper presents results of the research on the influence of quaternary ammonium salts on UV–vis absorption and emission spectra of zinc octacarboxyphthalocyanine (ZnPcOC). Quaternary ammonium salts which show biological activity play a crucial role. In ZnPcOC solutions with a proper concentration of tetrabutylammonium salts (TBAX), a strong bathochromic shift band (λmax = 760 nm – “R” band) showing red fluorescence appears in time. The presence of tetrabutylammonium salt causes pH increase and, consequently, a gradual dissociation of carboxyl groups in ZnPcOC molecule. A Combined Experimental and Theoretical Study of the Ammonium Bifluoride Catalyzed Regioselective Synthesis of Quinoxalines and Pyrido[2,3-b]pyrazines

International audience; Ammonium bifluoride was efficiently used (at a 0.5 mol % loading) to catalyze the cyclocondensation between 1,2-arylenediamines and 1,2-dicarbonyl compounds at room temperature in methanol-water, affording quinoxalines and pyrido[2,3-b]pyrazines in excellent yields. Importantly, 2,8-disubstituted quinoxalines and 3-substituted pyrido[2,3-b]pyrazines were regioselectively formed by reacting aryl glyoxals with 3-methyl-1,2-phenylenediamine and 2,3-diaminopyridine, respectively. Analysis of the DFT reactivity indices allowed to explain the catalytic role of ammonium bifluoride.
