On-line measurements of RuO$_4$ during a PWR severe accident

2015

International audience; After the Fukushima accident, it became essential to have a way to monitor in real time the evolution of a nuclear reactor during a severe accident, in order to react efficiently and minimize the industrial, ecological and health consequences of the accident. Among gaseous fission products, the tetroxide of ruthenium RuO$_4$ is of prime importance since it has a significant radiological impact. Ruthenium is a low volatile fission product but in case of the rupture of the lower head by the molten corium, the air entering into the vessel oxidizes Ru into gaseous RuO$_4$, which is not trapped by the Filtered Containment Venting Systems. To monitor the presence of RuO$_4…

Biodiversité fongique du raisin au vin : impact de l'activité anthropique

2016

The effects of different anthropogenic activities (vineyard, winery) on fungal populations from grape to wine were studied. To characterize these effects, it was necessary to access to the overall diversity of populations (pyrosequencing and spectroscopy FT-IR) but also to intra-specific diversity (FT-IR). Spectroscopy FT-IR has been validated for their ability to characterize the global population and to discriminate the strains for three species of non-Saccharomyces yeasts (NS). For the first time, it is shown that the grape berry is a limited source for NS yeasts while the winery seems to be a significant source; the air is an important vector for dissemination of these yeasts. In additi…

Protection of yeast cells in micro-organized shells of natural polyelectrolytes during drying process

2016

The encapsulation techniques are applied in various fields and for various applications. The layer-by-layer self-assembly (LbL), one of the encapsulation techniques, is built by the electrostatic attraction between oppositely charged polyelectrolytes, and the topmost layer determines essentially the sur-face properties of the edifice. This technique offers several advantages (low cost, simplicity of process and equipment, biocompatibility and biodegra-dation, etc.). In this present paper, results of the protection of Saccharomyces cerevisiae yeast cells in microorganized shell of natural polyelectrolytes during dehydration process are reported. To apply the LbL method to individually encaps…

Polikaprolaktona nanošķiedru izgatavošana un raksturojums, izmantojot elektrovērpšanas metodi šūnu/ biotehnoloģiju pielietojumiem

2022

Polikaprolaktons ir sintētisks polimērs, kuru plaši izmanto tā zemo izmaksu, pieejamības, fizikālo un bioloģisko īpašību dēļ. No šī materiāla izgatavotās nanošķiedras lieto un turpina pētīt biotehnoloģijas un bioinženierijas jomās. Bakalaura darba mērķis bija izstrādāt polikaprolaktona nanošķiedru matricas cilvēka ādas šūnu kultivēšanai un novērtēt to izmantošanas iespēju biotehnoloģijas jomā.

Retinal Vibrations in Bacteriorhodopsin are Mechanically Harmonic but Electrically Anharmonic: Evidence From Overtone and Combination Bands

2021

Fundamental vibrations of the chromophore in the membrane protein bacteriorhodopsin (BR), a protonated Schiff base retinal, have been studied for decades, both by resonance Raman and by infrared (IR) difference spectroscopy. Such studies started comparing vibrational changes between the initial BR state (all-trans retinal) and the K intermediate (13-cis retinal), being later extended to the rest of intermediates. They contributed to our understanding of the proton-pumping mechanism of BR by exploiting the sensitivity of fundamental vibrational transitions of the retinal to its conformation. Here, we report on new bands in the 2,500 to 1,800 cm−1 region of the K-BR difference FT-IR spectrum.…

Protection of living yeast cells by micro-organized shells of natural polyelectrolytes

2015

International audience; Saccharomyces cerevisiae, a eukaryotic model organism, plays a key role in the oxidative stability of fermented products. In order to protect cells against environmental stresses, we report a method of modifying the cell surface architecture while maintaining the internal working properties of the system. The objective was to encapsulate living yeast cells in micro-organized polyelectrolyte shells using layer-by-layer (LbL) assembly. For the first time, the natural polyelectrolytes, β-lactoglobulin and sodium alginate, were alternately deposited on the surface of S. cerevisiae. Transmission electron microscopy coupled with immune-cytochemistry and scanning electron m…

Peptide synthesis with 5-amino-1-methyl-1H-[1,2,4]triazole-3-carboxylic acid

2007

Abstract In the search for the peptide synthesis of new potential lexitropsins, starting with methyl 5‐amino‐1‐methyl‐1H‐[1,2,4]triazole‐3‐carboxylate 1a, we synthesized the chloroacetyl derivative of 2a, which was hydrolyzed to acid 2b and ammonolyzed to the peptide 2c. A more effective route was the use of (t‐butoxycarbonyl)glycyl‐benzotriazolide 3 to the acylation 1a, which leads the N/C protected peptide 4. This peptide was selectively N‐deprotected to be the useful segment 5 for further peptide syntheses to the N‐terminus. It was also C‐deprotected, that is hydrolyzed to give peptide 2c for further C‐extension. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first peptide that is a derivativ…

Role of residual water hydrogen bonding in sugar/water/biomolecule systems: a possible explanation fortrehalose peculiarity

2007

We report on the set of experimental and simulative evidences which enabled us to suggest how biological structures embedded in a non-liquid water–saccharide solvent are anchored to the surrounding matrix via a hydrogen bond network. Such a network, whose rigidity increases by decreasing the sample water content, couples the degrees of freedom of the biostructure to those of the matrix and gives place to protein–saccharide–water structures (protein–solvent conformational substates). In particular, the whole set of data evidences that, while the protein–sugar interaction is well described in terms of a water entrapment hypothesis, the water replacement hypothesis better describes the sugar–m…

Structure and properties of N-methyl-N-(4-pyridyl)-nitramine and 1,4-dihydro-1-methyl-4-nitriminopyridine

2002

Abstract The molecular structure and spectral properties of N -methyl- N -(4-pyridyl)-nitramine ( 1 ) and 1,4-dihydro-1-methyl-4-nitriminopyridine ( 3 ) were investigated by the X-ray diffraction, FTIR, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) methods and DFT theoretical calculations. N -methyl- N -(4-pyridyl)-nitramine ( 1 ) crystallises in the orthorhombic Pbca space group. It is composed of two planar fragments; nitramino (N 2 O 2 ) group and the pirydyl ring. These two groups are twisted at about 70° with respect to each other, along the Ar–N bond. On the contrary, in compound 3 , they are coplanar to each other. Twist of the nitramino group in 1 with respect to the pirydyl ring leads to a sign…
