Clinical Delineation Of A Subtype Of Frontonasal Dysplasia With Creased Nasal Ridge And Upper Limb Anomalies: Report Of Six Unrelated Patients

IF 2.259; International audience; Frontonasal dysplasias are rare congenital malformations of frontonasal process-derived structures, characterized by median cleft, nasal anomalies, widely spaced eyes, and cranium bifidum occultum. Several entities of syndromic frontonasal dysplasia have been described, among which, to date, only a few have identified molecular bases. Craniofacial sutures and synchondroses form the boundaries among bones in the human skull, providing functional, developmental and evolutionary information. Immediate and flapless implant insertion and provisionalization using autogenous bone grafts in the esthetic zone: 5-year results.

Objectives As the 2-year results for immediately inserted and provisionalized implants have been reported, it remained an open issue, whether the initially high success rates and the esthetic outcome remain stable for longer observation periods. Therefore, this prospective study examines the 5-year hard and soft tissue changes at implants placed in the anterior maxilla. Nasal airway, lip competence, and craniofacial morphology

The aim of the present investigation was to demonstrate whether children selected by their open lip posture show differences in their nasal airway resistance and facial morphology compared to children with closed lip closure. Thirty-two children with poor lip competence were compared to a control group of 20 with secure mouth closure. Patients with poor lip competence showed a significantly higher ML-NSL angle and also ML-NL angle. Background To investigate the occupational profile, educational level, marital status and deleterious habits to the health of patients with maxillofacial fractures of a population of northeastern Brazil. Material and Methods A retrospective study of patients records admitted to the Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the Walter Cantídio University Hospital (Fortaleza, Brazil) who sustained maxillofacial fractures was conducted in the period between 2006 and 2015. Microsurgical treatment of midfacial tumours involving the skull base

Various approaches to the base of the skull for the treatment of cranial base tumours are described in detail. Advantages and disadvantages of the particular approaches are discussed. This clinical experience is based on 303 neoplasms involving the base of the skull, operated on by the authors. Retrospective survival studies are presented and a review of the literature on the subject is discussed. Utilizing microsurgical techniques the 2-, 3- and 5-year survival rates were significantly improved. The functional and aesthetic outcomes were also dramatically superior compared with standard ablative procedures. Reconstructive postoperative strategies are suggested.
