A new tool to classifying new technology-based firm prospects and expectations
1999
Abstract This is an exploratory insight into the profile and prospects of growth and success attached to one category of firms, the so-called New Technology-Based Firms (NTBFs). Analysis of our empirically based data from 30 NTBFs leads us to the Market-Technology-Entrepreneurial (M-T-E) Matrix, whose eight three-dimensional quadrants serve to classify high-tech new ventures by performance. A factorial analysis coupled with a discriminate analysis are the statistical tools employed in obtaining the M-T-E Matrix and ascribing predictive capacity to it.
Physical properties of green composites based on poly-lactic acid or Mater-Bi® filled with Posidonia Oceanica leaves
2018
Abstract This work focuses on the evaluation of Posidonia Oceanica leaves as effective reinforcing agent for ecofriendly, fully biodegradable polymer composites. Posidonia leaves were washed, ground and sieved in order to achieve two different size distributions and aspect ratios. They were then added to either a stiff or a ductile biodegradable polymer matrix, respectively poly-lactic acid (PLA) and MaterBi® (MB), at two different filler contents (10 wt% and 20 wt%). The materials were fully characterized from a spectroscopic, morphological, rheological, and mechanical point of view. In particular, the outcomes of tensile tests were statistically analyzed by using a Full Factorial Design i…
Study and evaluation of fretting critical slip conditions by applying the design of experiments method
2006
Tribological systems are complex systems that require a multi-disciplinary (mechanical, material, physico-chemical) approach where numerous influence factors can be involved. To characterize a contact couple, the intrinsic parameters of the materials as well as the parameters related to the contact loading and the surrounding environment need to be taken into account. Fretting analysis, by means of running condition-fretting maps (RCFM), allows the behavior of the contact couple to be taken into account and to predict the boundary between partial slip and gross slip conditions. This article presents the study of a steel/polycarbonate couple during fretting tests. The study was carried out b…
Phase mixture in MOCVD and reactive sputtering TiOxNy thin films revealed and quantified by XPS factorial analysis.
2006
Abstract Titanium oxynitride thin films have been deposited by low-pressure metalorganic chemical vapour deposition and reactive sputtering. The growth temperature for chemical vapour-deposited films and water vapour partial pressure for sputter-deposited films have been used to modulate the chemical composition. Both series have been analysed using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) in order to describe the structure of the materials using a factorial analysis approach. Titanium and metalloid concentrations have also been determined and compared to an elemental analysis performed using Rutherford backscattering spectroscopy and nuclear reaction analysis. The two deposition methods led …
Relevant factors for the eco-design of polylactide/sisal biocomposites to control biodegradation in soil in an end-of-life scenario
2017
[EN] The eco-design considers the factors to prepare biocomposites under an end-of-life scenario. PLA/sisal biocomposites were obtained from amorphous polylactide and sisal loadings of 10, 20 and 30 wt% with and without coupling agent, and subjected to biodegradation in soil according to standard IS0846. Mass loss, differential scanning calorimetry and size-exclusion chromatography were used for monitoring biodegradation. A statistical factorial analysis based on the molar mass M-n, and crystallinity degree X-c pointed out the relevance and interaction of amount of fibre and use of coupling agent with the time of burial in soil., During the preparation of biocomposites, chain scission provo…

2014
The Paper Presents the Measurement Systems Analysis, System Capability and Optimization of a Laser Cutting System for 3 Mm Alloy Steel. for the Measurement System Analysis and System Capability the Data was Introduced in a Excel Sheet which was Designed According to QS9000 Standard (Measurement System Analysis) to Calculate the Measuring System Repeatability, Reproducibility and Capability. Design of Experiment (DOE) was Used for Process Optimization the Optimization was Conducted in an Operational Manufacturing Environment and was Based on the Design of a 25 Full Factorial Experiment. the Laser Parameters (input) were Feed Rate v, Gas Pressure p, Power P, Frequency F and Efficiency R while…
Validation of the Five-Factor Self-Concept Questionnaire AF5 in Brazil: Testing factor structure and measurement invariance across language (Brazilia…
2018
Self-concept is widely conceptualized as multidimensional (Shavelson et al., 1976). The Five-Factor Self-Concept Questionnaire (AF5, Garcia and Musitu, 2009) assesses five specific dimensions (i.e., academic, social, emotional, family, and physical). It is a psychometrically sound questionnaire, developed, and normed in Spain, which is widely used with Spanish-speaking samples. The validation of the AF5 in Brazil would expand its potential, and would facilitate cross-cultural research. To validate the Brazilian version of the AF5, the present study apply confirmatory factor analysis and multi-sample invariance analysis across sex (women vs. men), age (11-18 years old), and language (Brazili…
The Relationship Between Polygenic Risk Scores and Cognition in Schizophrenia
2020
Abstract Background Cognitive impairment is a clinically important feature of schizophrenia. Polygenic risk score (PRS) methods have demonstrated genetic overlap between schizophrenia, bipolar disorder (BD), major depressive disorder (MDD), educational attainment (EA), and IQ, but very few studies have examined associations between these PRS and cognitive phenotypes within schizophrenia cases. Methods We combined genetic and cognitive data in 3034 schizophrenia cases from 11 samples using the general intelligence factor g as the primary measure of cognition. We used linear regression to examine the association between cognition and PRS for EA, IQ, schizophrenia, BD, and MDD. The results wer…
The polygenic nature of hypertriglyceridaemia: implications for definition, diagnosis, and management.
2014
Item does not contain fulltext Plasma triglyceride concentration is a biomarker for circulating triglyceride-rich lipoproteins and their metabolic remnants. Common mild-to-moderate hypertriglyceridaemia is typically multigenic, and results from the cumulative burden of common and rare variants in more than 30 genes, as quantified by genetic risk scores. Rare autosomal recessive monogenic hypertriglyceridaemia can result from large-effect mutations in six different genes. Hypertriglyceridaemia is exacerbated by non-genetic factors. On the basis of recent genetic data, we redefine the disorder into two states: severe (triglyceride concentration >10 mmol/L), which is more likely to have a mono…
Preparation and recrystallization behavior of spray-dried co-amorphous naproxen–indomethacin
2016
To improve the dissolution properties and the physical stability of amorphous active pharmaceutical ingredients, small molecule stabilizing agents may be added to prepare co-amorphous systems. The objective of the study was to investigate if spray-drying allows the preparation of co-amorphous drug-drug systems such as naproxen-indomethacin and to examine the influence of the process conditions on the resulting initial sample crystallinity and the recrystallization behavior of the drug(s). For this purpose, the process parameters inlet temperature and pump feed rate were varied according to a 2(2) factorial design and the obtained samples were analyzed with X-ray powder diffractometry and Fo…
