Genome-wide association studies identify 137 genetic loci for DNA methylation biomarkers of aging
2021
Abstract Background Biological aging estimators derived from DNA methylation data are heritable and correlate with morbidity and mortality. Consequently, identification of genetic and environmental contributors to the variation in these measures in populations has become a major goal in the field. Results Leveraging DNA methylation and SNP data from more than 40,000 individuals, we identify 137 genome-wide significant loci, of which 113 are novel, from genome-wide association study (GWAS) meta-analyses of four epigenetic clocks and epigenetic surrogate markers for granulocyte proportions and plasminogen activator inhibitor 1 levels, respectively. We find evidence for shared genetic loci ass…
Fiabilidad y validez de constructo de la traducción al valenciano/catalán del Cuestionario para la Evaluación del Síndrome de Quemarse por el trabajo…
2021
The aim of this study was to evaluate the reliability and construct validity of the Valencian/Catalonian version of the Spanish Burnout Inventory (SBI) in a sample of non-university teachers from the Valencia province (Spain). The sample consisted of 1359 teachers (67.2% were women). This instrument contains 20 items distributed into four dimensions: Enthusiasm toward the job (5 items), Psychological exhaustion (4 items), Indolence (6 items) and Guilt (5 items). The psychometric properties were examined through the following analyses: confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and reliability (Cronbach’s alpha). All items achieved appropriate values for both statistical and psychometric parameters,…
CAD-R.
Room acoustical parameters: A factor analysis approach
2009
Abstract In this study, we determined the most representative acoustical parameters for halls intended for verbal or music audition. Our study was carried out in nine halls of different shapes and designed for different uses. We measured the impulse response at a great number of points (many more than the minimum required by the ISO 3382 norm). From a physical viewpoint, all halls are enclosed three-dimensional areas. Our work hypothesis is that objective (measurable) acoustical parameters, or a combination of such parameters, must provide the acoustical information specific to each hall and must make it possible to grade each hall. Factor analysis was used to obtain these grading parameter…
Contributo para o estudo psicométrico da versão portuguesa do Cuestionario de Satisfacción Laboral S20/23
2010
Job satisfaction is understood through its dual role on organization productivity and employees achievement (Smith, 1998). The use of instruments to measure it in Portugal, has been the subject of several studies, such as the adaptation of the Cuestionario de Satisfacción Laboral S20/23 (Meliá & Peiró, 1989) to Portuguese population carried out by Pocinho and García (2008). This study is a further contribution to the study of the psychometric qualities of this instrument. The results on a sample of 136 Portuguese employees show that the questionnaire presents the adequate requirements of internal consistency (.95), test-retest reliability, and convergent validity (correlation of .84 with th…
Self-efficacy beliefs of university students: an empirical study on the specificity of the construct
2010
This study tested two propositions of the Social Cognitive Theory in an academic setting: a) Self-efficacy is a domain- specific competence belief; b) Domain-specific selfefficacy is related, but distinct from, other self-evaluation constructs. Participants (272 Spanish university students) completed measures of general self-efficacy, academic self-efficacy, statistics self-efficacy and attitudes towards statistics (cognitive and affective components). Principal Components Analyses and Confirmatory Factorial Analyses were performed, among other procedures. Taken as a whole, results support the propositions tested.
BRCA1/2 variants of unknown significance in hereditary breast and ovarian cancer (HBOC) syndrome: Looking for the hidden meaning
2021
Hereditary breast and ovarian cancer syndrome is caused by germline mutations in BRCA1/2 genes. These genes are very large and their mutations are heterogeneous and scattered throughout the coding sequence. In addition to the above-mentioned mutations, variants of uncertain/unknown significance (VUSs) have been identified in BRCA genes, which make more difficult the clinical management of the patient and risk assessment. In the last decades, several laboratories have developed different databases that contain more than 2000 variants for the two genes and integrated strategies which include multifactorial prediction models based on direct and indirect genetic evidence, to classify the VUSs a…
The biproportional factorial analysis
1993
Beyond the Factorial Analysis of Correspondences, the paper presents a newmethod of data analysis: the Biproportional Factorial Analysis. In the Factorial Analysis of Correspondences, the matrix to be diagonalised is the product o f the two matrices o f profiles, row and columns: this matrix is not symmetrical. In the Biproportional Factorial Analysis, the matrix to be diagonalised is the symmetrical product o f an intermediate matrix over itself; this intermediate matrix is calculated as the biproportion o f the data matrix over normalisedmargins. This provides a full symmetry between rows and columns. After recalling the Factorial Analysis of Correspondences, the paper recall what it is b…
Associations of the FTO rs9939609 and the MC4R rs17782313 polymorphisms with type 2 diabetes are modulated by diet, being higher when adherence to th…
2012
Background: Although the Fat Mass and Obesity (FTO) and Melanocortin-4 Receptor (MC4R) genes have been consistently associated with obesity risk, the association between the obesity-risk alleles with type 2 diabetes is still controversial. In some recent meta-analyses in which significant results have been reported, the associations disappeared after adjustment for body mass index (BMI). However gene-diet interactions with dietary patterns have not been investigated. Our main aim was to analyze whether these associations are modulated by the level of adherence to the Mediterranean Diet (MedDiet). Methods: Case-control study in 7,052 high cardiovascular risk subjects (3,430 type 2 diabetes c…
Concept Matching Technique for Assessing importance of Volatile Compounds for Cheddar Cheese Aroma
1994
Many volatile compounds have been identified in Cheddar cheese, but the importance of each compound for the characteristic Cheddar aroma is unknown. We screened 15 compounds for importance for Cheddar cheese aroma using a factorial design. The resulting mixtures were judged by a concept matching technique. The most important compounds for Cheddar cheese aroma were butyric acid, diacetyl and methional. A three-way factorial experiment was used to find their optimum concentrations. The optimum mixtures were compared to several Cheddar and non-Cheddar cheeses. Partial agreement was found between the mixtures and the Cheddar cheese concept. They were as Cheddar-like as some true Cheddar cheeses.
