Menarcheal age is the most important measure of sexual maturation in girls and a sensitive indicator of environmental conditions during childhood.The study analysed the association between age at menarche and socio-economic characteristics (urbanization, population size, education of parents and number of children in the family).Questionnaire data were collected from 3271 female schoolchildren born between 1981 and 1984, living in three provinces of southern Poland. Children from broken homes: visits to the school nurse.

Children from broken homes, especially females, have an increased tendency to visit the school nurse. Complaints are often ill-defined, possibly psychosomatic. These children may require additional medical and emotional support from the school nurse. The effect the broken home may have upon a student has important implications for the physical and emotional health of today's youth. An awareness of this finding can provide school nursing personnel valuable insight in the assessment of students who visit the school nurse.

Pediatricians are on the front line of child care and advocacy, and it is their role to promote children's well-being and to help parents raise healthy children, independent of the configuration of their families. This report aims to draw attention to the evolving social scenarios and to emphasize that pediatricians must be trained to coordinate new challenges that may arise from differently configured families, particularly single-parent and same-sex–parent families.

Eine intermittierend auftretende cholestatische Lebererkrankung kann einen angeborenen Defekt im Bereich der Gallensaurentransportproteine offenlegen. Die Episoden konnen durch eine Schwangerschaft oder die Einnahme oraler Kontrazeptiva oder anderer Medikamente ausgelost werden. Wir beschreiben den Fall einer 22-jahrigen Mutter, bei der zwei Wochen nach Beginn der hormonalen Kontrazeption ein zunehmender Ikterus und schwerer Juckreiz auftrat. Bereits einige Monate zuvor hatte sie an Juckreiz im Rahmen einer intrahepatischen Schwangerschaftscholestase gelitten. Die Leberbiopsie zeigte eine Cholestase in unauffalligem Lebergewebe. The present study explores the motivation for fatherhood in a sample of childless German gay and heterosexual men aged 18 to 40 years (N = 628 + 638). Referring to the theory of planned behavior (TPB), three potential predictors were considered: the individual's attitude toward having children, perceived attitudes of significant others toward fatherhood, and anticipated parental self-efficacy. The current study analyzed how identity, couple, and intergroup dynamics are related to life satisfaction among 210 intercultural partners living in Italy. Three levels of analysis were considered: a micro level, taking into account the identity aspect of each partner in terms of self- or hetero-ethnic identification; a meso level, examining the passion, commitment, and intimacy of the couple sphere of the partners; a macro level investigating the discrimination that partners can perceive by the community as an effect of the relationship between dominant and minority groups.
