Strong Exciton-Coherent Phonon Coupling in Single-Layer MoS2

Broadband transient absorption with sub-20fs temporal resolution, supported by ab-initio calculations, quantitatively provides the strength of exciton-coherent phonon coupling in 1L-MoS2, showing a resonant profile around the C exciton.
Asymmetric apodization in confocal scanning systems.

A new class of superresolution pairs of pupil filters for three-dimensional, two-pupil confocal imaging is proposed. A distinctive feature of these filters is the asymmetry of their impulse response. For synthesizing the amplitude transmittance of such filters the Fourier transform properties of Hermitian functions are employed. It is shown that, with simple phase-only filters that belong to the class in question, either axial or unidirectional lateral superresolution is achieved.
Fast Direct Solver for a Time-harmonic Electromagnetic Problem with an Application

A fast direct solution of a periodic problem derived from the time-harmonic Maxwell’s equations is considered. The problem is discretized by low order hexahedral finite elements proposed by Nedelec. The solver is based on the application of FFT, and it has the computational cost O(N log N). An application to scattering of an electromagnetic wave by a periodic structure is presented.
Nonlinear excitations in a compressible quantum Heisenberg chain

Abstract We investigate, both analytically and numerically, nonlinearly coupled magnetic and elastic excitations of compressible Heisenberg chains. From a shallow water wave treatment of perturbation terms, one can derive two types of coupled equations which are coupled Boussinesq and nonlinear Schrodinger (NLS) equations and coupled Boussinesq and NLS-like equations. We also simulate collisions between magnetic and elastic solitons in the compressible Heisenberg chain when a nonlinearized approach is performed to deal with the magnetic modes in the presence of harmonic as well as anharmonic interactions. Influence of gravity vector on eye movement elicited by linear acceleration.

When the body/head motion is sensed by otolith organs, they respond not only to the resultant acceleration of the motion but also to the gravitational force. We investigated the influence of the gravity vector on the otolithic-ocular reflex caused by motion in normal subjects. The sled type linear accelerator, moving back and forth with a frequency of 0.25 Hz and an amplitude of 2 m, generated right-left linear acceleration with a maximum magnitude of 0.5 g. Abstract The theoretical model for calculations of the fission product yields in the light-particle induced fission is discussed. A comparison of the production cross sections in fission of 238 U by protons, thermal and fast neutrons, and photons is presented. The results of studies of the very asymmetric fission of 238 U by protons and neutron at the moderate energy are reported.

Abstract The mean energy of 252 Cf fission fragments emerging from an absorber and the determination of the capture rate in the absorber itself have been measured using two independent and complementary nuclear techniques. The results can be applied to the measurement of the energy self-absorption in a non-zero thickness source and can be used to validate simulation programs.
Production of neutron-rich isotopes in fission of uranium induced by neutrons of 20 MeV average energy

In the context of a parameter study conducted by several laboratories for future European radioactive beam facilities based on fast-neutron induced fission, in particular for the SPIRAL-II project at GANIL, we have measured the yields of neutron-rich isotopes in the mass range of 88 to 144. These nuclei were obtained as fission products of natural uranium bombarded by neutrons of 20 MeV average energy emitted by a thick carbon target irradiated by 50 MeV deuterons. Yields have been measured using on-line mass separation with the ion-guide method. Production of neutron-rich nuclei in fission induced by neutrons generated by the p + 13C reaction at 55 MeV

Cross-sections for the production of neutron-rich nuclei obtained by neutron-induced fission of natural uranium have been measured. The neutrons were generated by bombarding a 13C target with 55 MeV protons. The results, position of the maximum in the (Z, A)-plane, width and magnitude, are very comparable with those where the neutrons are generated by bombardment of natural 12C graphite with 50 MeV deuterons. Depending on the geometry of the converter/target assembly the isotope yields, however, are a factor of 2-3 lower due to less efficient production of neutrons per primary projectile, especially at small forward angles.
