Pie laika … Now is the time. The singing revolution on Latvian radio and television

2020

AbstractIn the Soviet Union, song competitions had an important role in presenting new artists and songs. The Mikrofona aptauja contest of Latvian radio (1968–1994) was the main forum for new Latvian pop music. It had a reputation for expressing nationalist feelings within the limits of Soviet censorship. In 1988, with the rise of new political movements in the Soviet Union, the competition became a venue for the Latvian independence movement. The winning song of 1988 was a demand for ‘freedom to the fatherland’. The competition also played a part in the rehabilitation of pre-war popular music which had been forbidden in Soviet Latvia. The paper discusses the role of journalists, politician…

Universal Breadwinner Versus Universal Caregiver Model : Fathers’ Involvement in Caregiving and Well-Being of Mothers of Offspring with Intellectual …

2015

Background The universal breadwinner model means both parents are employed; while the universal caregiver model implies that the father's hours of caregiving are equal or higher to those of the mother. This study aims to examine the hypothesis that the universal caregiver model is more related to the overall well-being of mothers of children with intellectual disabilities than the universal breadwinner model. Methods Face-to-face interview surveys were conducted in 2011 in Taiwan with 876 working-age mothers who had an offspring with intellectual disabilities. The survey included 574 mothers living with their husbands who became our participants. Results Both anova and regression analyses i…

Divorce and Gendered Family (Re)Configurations in a Sample of Employed and Higher Educated Mothers and Fathers

2020

Altres ajuts: CSO2016-78715-R From 26 semi-structured interviews conducted in Spain we examine how motherhood and fatherhood is redefined and how family configurations are reshaped after a divorce or separation. The existence of common children in our sample meant that their original nuclear family never completely dissolved as the meaning of families became broader and more complex. Family was not restricted to a specific home, those who shared a home weren't necessarily united by family ties, nor did living alone necessarily mean a lack of family, stable relationships, or strong emotional ties. Gender transcended all divorce-related issues although for all respondents post-divorce motheri…

«Prendere ad esempio». Quando padri e figli sono innamorati (con una lettura di Sen. contr. ii 6)

2018

This paper investigates the theme of erotic rivalry between father and son in Roman declamation, particularly in Ps. Quint. decl. 356, Calp. decl. 37 and, especially, in Sen. contr. ii 6. The analysis emphasizes the decisive contribution of the comedy to outlining this kind of conflict, also interpreted according to Quintilian’s theoretical reflection on this scholastica materia.

INFLUENCE OF THE EXPERIMENTAL SYSTEM AND OPTIMIZATION OF THE SELECTIVITY FOR THE ELECTROCARBOXYLATION OF CHLOROACETONITRILE TO CYANOACETIC ACID

2004

The electrocarboxylation of chloroacetonitrile (ClACN) to cyanoacetic acid in undivided cells equipped with sacrificial anodes was investigated both in a bench-scale electrochemical batch reactor and in a continuous batch recirculation reaction system equipped with a parallel-plate electrochemical cell. Selectivity and faradaic yields higher than 90% were obtained by working under anhydrous conditions with low halide concentrations and at more negative potentials. It was found that the instantaneous selectivity in the carboxylate compound depends mainly on the [CO 2 ]/[ClACN] ratio at high substrate concentration and is close to 100% for low ClACN concentration. These results were consisten…

Tetrasomy 18p de novo: Identification by FISH with conventional and microdissection probes and analysis of parental origin and formation by short seq…

1996

We report a de novo supernumerary isochromosome 18p in a child with tetrasomy 18p, analyzed by a straightforward combination of cytogenetic and molecular cytogenetic methods. The diagnostic procedure consisted of standard banding techniques and fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) with centromere and library DNA probes for chromosome 18, and 18p-specific FISH probes prepared by chromosome microdissection and in vitro amplification. The maternal origin as well as the most probable cell stages of formation of the supernumerary isochromosome were determined by typing of short sequence repeats (SSRs). The pattern of allelic distribution suggests a nondisjunction during meiosis followed by …

Obstetric and Neonatal Outcome of Pregnancies Fathered by Males on Immunosuppression After Solid Organ Transplantation

2015

Immunosuppressive drugs may influence spermatogenesis, but little is known about outcome of pregnancies fathered by transplanted males. We estimated risk of adverse outcomes in pregnancies (with data after the first trimester) fathered by males that had undergone organ transplantation and were treated with immunosuppression. A population-based study, linking data from the Norwegian transplant registry and the Medical Birth Registry of Norway during 1967-2009 was designed. All Norwegian men undergoing solid organ transplantation were included. Odds ratios for major malformations, preeclampsia, preterm delivery (<37 weeks) and small-for-gestational-age were obtained using logistic regression.…

Educational discourse in Spain during the early Franco regime (1936–1943): toward a genealogy of doctrine and concepts

2015

In this article an analysis is undertaken of Spanish educational discourse during the early years of the Franco regime, from the Civil War (1936–1939) to the establishment of the Nuevo Estado or New State (1939–1943), employing Reinhart Koselleck’s principles of conceptual history. Without totally spurning the totalitarian and fascist ideology of the new regime, this educational discourse constructed an imagined community of Espana Nacional (Nationalist Spain) by means of a historical narrative that began with the uprising led by General Franco in July 1936. The discourse sought to recover the importance of the nation’s traditions so as to promote a conceptual and symbolic imaginary that mi…

La destrucción de la modernidad republicana. (Sin)razones del exilio pedagógico español

2019
