Rich resource environment of fish farms facilitates phenotypic variation and virulence in an opportunistic fish pathogen

Phenotypic variation is suggested to facilitate the persistence of environmentally growing pathogens under environmental change. Here, we hypothesized that the intensive farming environment induces higher phenotypic variation in microbial pathogens than natural environment, because of high stochasticity for growth and stronger survival selection compared to the natural environment. We tested the hypothesis with an opportunistic fish pathogen Flavobacterium columnare isolated either from fish farms or from natural waters. The rise of temperatures due to global warming is related to a lengthening of the breeding season in many bird species. This allows more pairs to attempt two clutches within the breeding season, thus finishing their breeding activity later in the season and therefore potentially overlapping these with post–breeding moult. We tested whether this occurred in two Spanish great tit Parus major populations. The proportion of pairs laying second clutches increased from 1 % to 32 % over the study period in one of the populations (Sagunto, 1995–2019), while it did not change in the other (Quintos, 2006–2019; mean 5 %). Rovello bianco, caratterizzazione di un vitigno autoctono campano.

Il “Rovello bianco”, conosciuto localmente come “Greco muscio” nuovo vitigno autoctono campano è stato oggetto di uno studio triennale (2004-2005) considerando il “Fiano” come varietà di riferimento. L’analisi molecolare mediante marcatori micro satelliti (SSR) ne ha stabilito l’unicità del profilo genetico. La valutazione agronomica è stata ottenuta attraverso annuali e sistematici rilievi, effettuati su 50 piante di 5 anni di età, registrando da parte del “Rovello bianco” un più basso vigore vegetativo rispetto al “Fiano” e una buona resistenza alle più diffuse fitopatie. Tutkimuksessa kuvataan Humanistisen ammattikorkeakoulun opiskelijoiden ko-kemuksia henkilökohtaisesta opintojen ohjauksesta. Aineisto koostuu 23:n syksyllä 2003 aloittaneen opiskelijan kirjoitelmista, joissa käsiteltiin opiskeluaikaisia hopsauskokemuksia. Tutkimuksen lähestymistapa on fenomenologinen. Aineiston analyysi tehtiin Giorgin fenomenologisen psykologian viisivaiheisen analyysime-netelmän mukaan. Analyysin perusteella opiskelijat sijoittuivat kolmeen ryhmään sen mukaan, mikä oli kirjoittajan syy osallistua tutkimukseen. Non-Thermal Ultrasonic Extraction of Polyphenolic Compounds from Red Wine Lees

This study presents the results of conventional aqueous (CE) and non-conventional ultrasound-assisted (UAE) extractions of polyphenolic compounds from lees extracts of red wine varieties (Merlot and Vranac). The effect of ultrasound extraction time (t, s), and amplitude (A,%) from a 400 W ultrasound processor with different ultrasonic probes diameters (Ds, mm) on the amount and profile of polyphenolic compounds in the obtained extracts was investigated and compared to CE. The optimal conditions resulting in maximum extraction of phenolic compounds were: Probe diameter of 22 mm, amplitude 90% and extraction time for Vranac wine lees 1500 s and for Merlot wine lees extraction time of 1361 s. …
