Coping with School-Related Stress and Family Stress in Healthy and Clinically Referred Adolescents
2001
This study compares stress perception and coping style in 77 early and late adolescents differing in psychological health. Coping with two normative, age-specific stressors, namely, school-related stressors, and conflicts with parents was investigated via the Coping Process Interview, which assesses coping immediately after an event has happened. Results obtained from the interviews were validated by the results of standardized questionnaires assessing stress perception and coping style in dealing with school-related stress and family stress. Both stressors were not perceived as structurally similar events. Differences were obtained with respect to the appraisal of the stressor, causal att…
Spiritual Well-being in Patients With Metastatic Colorectal Cancer Receiving Noncurative Chemotherapy
2017
Spiritual well-being (SWB) is an important quality-of-life dimension for cancer patients in the palliative phase. Therefore, it is important for healthcare professionals to recognize the concept of SWB from the patient's point of view. A deeper understanding of how patients experience and reflect upon these issues might influence patient care. The aim of this study was to explore SWB in colorectal cancer patients receiving chemotherapy in the palliative phase. We used a qualitative method of in-depth interviews and a hermeneutic editing approach for the analyses and interpretations. Twenty colorectal cancer patients in the palliative phase, aged 34 to 75 years, were included: 12 patients we…

2020
During the COVID-19 pandemic, TV broadcasters and clubs were challenged to provide alternative formats and content for fans of Germany’s favorite sport, football [soccer]. Thus, they emulated matchdays and created a Bundesliga feeling in new ways. The authors focus on this alternative creative sports coverage during the Coronavirus crisis and consider the effect on the audience. TV broadcasters, for instance, recreated Bundesliga matchdays through broadcasting historical matches, sticking with the original fixtures from before the crisis, while offering renewed commentary. Clubs conducted the Bundesliga Home Challenge, that is, FIFA20 videogame matches with their professional and eSport pla…

Towards a lexicogrammatical pattern in Swedish crime novels
2013
The success of Swedish crime novels has been noted and discussed at length. Much of this commentary refers to a salient characteristic atmosphere which seems to be a common feature of most if not all Scandinavian crime novels. In this paper the potential of some recurring lexicogrammatical features to construct this characteristically gloomy and sombre atmosphere is presented and discussed. It will be shown that the vague feeling of unease which is perceived while reading these fictional texts is linguistically attestable. The analysis is conducted within the framework of M.A.K. Halliday’s systemic-functional grammar (SFG) which will be applied to three contemporary Swedish crime novels by …
