Follow-up on non-leptonic Kaon decays at large $N_c$
2018
We report on the status of our dynamical simulations of a $SU (N_c )$ gauge theory with $N_c=3-6$ and $N_f =4$ fundamental fermions. These ensembles can be used to study the Large $N_c$ scaling of weak matrix elements in the GIM limit $m_c=m_u$, that might shed some light on the origin of the $\Delta I=1/2$ rule. We present preliminary results for the $K \to \pi$ matrix elements in the $N_c=3$ dynamical simulations, where we observe a significant effect of the quark loops that goes in the direction of enhancing the ratio of $A_0/A_2$ amplitudes. Finally, we present the relevant NLO Chiral Perturbation Theory predictions for the relation between $K \to \pi $ and $K \to \pi \pi$ amplitudes in…
Constraints on additionalZ′gauge bosons from a precise measurement of theZmass
1990
We analyze the constraints on the mass and mixing of superstring-inspired E{sub 6} {ital Z}{prime} neutral gauge boson that follow from the recent precise {ital Z} mass measurements and show that they depend very sensitively on the assumed value of the {ital W} mass and also, to a lesser extent, on the top-quark mass.
A dynamical mechanism for quark mixing and neutrino oscillations
1999
We show that assuming fermion generations to be given by a gauge symmetry plus a certain Higgs mechanism for its breaking, the known empirical features of quark and lepton mixing can be largely explained, including in particular the fact that the mixing (CKM) matrix element $U_{\mu3}$ responsible for the muon anomaly in atmospheric neutrinos is near maximal and much larger than their quark counterparts $V_{cb}$ and $ V_{ts}$, while the corner elements for both quarks ($V_{ub}, V_{td}$) and leptons ($U_{e3}$) are all very small. The mechanism also gives automatically a hierarchical fermion mass spectrum which is intimately related to the mixing pattern.
Jarlskog-like invariants for theories with scalars and fermions
1994
Within the framework of theories where both scalars and fermions are present, we develop a systematic prescription for the construction of CP-violating quantities that are invariant under basis transformations of those matter fields. In theories with Spontaneous Symmetry Breaking, the analysis involves the vevs' transformation properties under a scalar basis change, with a considerable simplification of the study of CP violation in the scalar sector. These techniques are then applied in detail to the two Higgs-doublet model with quarks. It is shown that there are new invariants involving scalar-fermion interactions, besides those already derived in previous analyses for the fermion-gauge an…
Quark number susceptibilities at high temperatures
2013
We calculate second and fourth order quark number susceptibilities for 2+1 flavor QCD in the high temperature region. In our study we use two improved staggered fermion formulations, namely the highly improved staggered quark formulation, and the so-called p4 formulation, as well as several lattice spacings. Second order quark number susceptibilities are calculated using both improved staggered fermion formulations, and we show that in the continuum limit the two formulations give consistent results. The fourth order quark number susceptibilities are studied only using the p4 formulation and at non-zero lattice spacings. We compare our results on quark number susceptibilities with recent we…
Spectroscopy ofHo144using recoil-isomer tagging
2010
Excited states in the proton-unbound odd-odd nucleus $^{144}\mathrm{Ho}$ have been populated using the $^{92}\mathrm{Mo}(^{54}\mathrm{Fe},\mathit{pn})^{144}\mathrm{Ho}$ reaction and studied using the recoil-isomer-tagging technique. The alignment properties and signature splitting of the rotational band above the ${I}^{\ensuremath{\pi}}=({8}^{+})^{144m}\mathrm{Ho}$ isomer have been analyzed and the isomer confirmed to have a $\ensuremath{\pi}{h}_{11/2}\ensuremath{\bigotimes}\ensuremath{\nu}{h}_{11/2}$ two-quasiparticle configuration. The configuration-constrained blocking method has been used to calculate the shapes of the ground and isomeric states, which are both predicted to have triaxia…
Neutrino flux prediction at MiniBooNE
2009
The booster neutrino experiment (MiniBooNE) searches for nu(mu)->nu(e) oscillations using the O(1 GeV) neutrino beam produced by the booster synchrotron at the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory). The booster delivers protons with 8 GeV kinetic energy (8.89 GeV/c momentum) to a beryllium target, producing neutrinos from the decay of secondary particles in the beam line. We describe the Monte Carlo simulation methods used to estimate the flux of neutrinos from the beam line incident on the MiniBooNE detector for both polarities of the focusing horn. The simulation uses the Geant4 framework for propagating particles, accounting for electromagnetic processes and hadronic interactions in the…
Influence of disorder on anomalous Hall effect for Heusler compounds
2011
The anomalous Hall effect (AHE) is a long known but still not fully understood transport effect. Most theory papers focus on the influence of one particular contribution to the AHE. Actual measured experimental data, however, often are not in accord with idealized assumptions. In this work we discuss the data analysis for materials with low residual resistivity ratios. As prototypical materials we study half metallic Heusler compounds. Here the influence of defects and disorder is apparent in a material with a complex topology of the Fermi surface. Using films of different degree of disorder, we show how different scattering mechanisms can be separated. For ${\text{Co}}_{2}{\text{FeSi}}_{0.…
Violation of the Wiedemann-Franz Law in HF Metals
2014
Experimental observations of the much-studied compounds CeCoIn\(_5\) and YbRh\(_2\)Si\(_2\) at vanishing temperatures carefully probe the nature of their magnetic-field-tuned QCPs. The violation of Wiedemann-Franz (WF) law, along with jumps revealed both in the residual resistivity \(\rho _0\) and the Hall resistivity \(R_H\), provide vital clues to the origin of their non-Fermi-liquid behavior. The empirical facts point unambiguously to association of the observed QCP with FC forming flat bands.
Exchange-correlation energy of a multicomponent two-dimensional electron gas
2003
We discuss the exchange-correlation energy of a multicomponent (multi-valley) two-dimensional electron gas and show that an extension of the recent parametrisation of the exchange-correlation energy by Attacalite et al (Phys. Rev. Lett. 88, 256601 (2002)) describes well also the multicomponent system. We suggest a simple mass dependence of the correlation energy and apply it to study the phase diagram of the multicomponent 2D electron (or hole) gas. The results show that even a small mass difference of the components (e.g. heavy and light holes) decreases the concentration of the lighter components already at relatively high densities.
