Effective theories of flavor and the nonuniversal MSSM

2016

Flavor symmetries \`{a} la Froggatt-Nielsen~(FN) provide a compelling way to explain the hierarchies of fermionic masses and mixing angles in the Yukawa sector. In Supersymmetric~(SUSY) extensions of the Standard Model where the mediation of SUSY breaking occurs at scales larger than the breaking of flavor, this symmetry must be respected not only by the Yukawas of the superpotential, but by the soft-breaking masses and trilinear terms as well. In this work we show that contrary to naive expectations, even starting with completely flavor blind soft-breaking in the full theory at high scales, the low-energy sfermion mass matrices and trilinear terms of the effective theory, obtained upon int…

Analyzing the CP Nature of a New Scalar Particle via S→Zh Decays

2016

Scalar particles $S$ that are singlets under the standard model gauge group are generic features of many models of fundamental physics, in particular, as possible mediators to a hidden sector. We show that the decay $S\ensuremath{\rightarrow}Zh$ provides a powerful probe of the $CP$ nature of the scalar, because it is allowed only if $S$ has $CP$-odd interactions. We perform a model-independent analysis of this decay using an effective Lagrangian and compute the relevant Wilson coefficients arising from integrating out heavy fermions to one-loop order.

Neutrino oscillations from warped flavor symmetry: predictions for long baseline experiments T2K, NOvA and DUNE

2016

Here we study the pattern of neutrino oscillations emerging from a previously proposed warped model construction incorporating $\Delta(27)$ flavor symmetry. In addition to a complete description of fermion masses, the model predicts the lepton mixing matrix in terms of two parameters. The good measurement of $\theta_{13}$ makes these two parameters nearly proportional, leading to an approximate one-parameter description of neutrino oscillations. There is a sharp fourfold degenerate correlation between $\delta_{CP}$ and the atmospheric mixing angle $\theta_{23}$, so that maximal $\theta_{23}$ also implies maximal leptonic CP violation. The predicted electron neutrino and anti-neutrino appear…

High-energy constraints from low-energy neutrino nonstandard interactions

2020

Many scenarios of new physics predict the existence of neutrino Non-Standard Interactions, new vector contact interactions between neutrinos and first generation fermions beyond the Standard Model. We obtain model-independent constraints on the Standard Model Effective Field Theory at high energies from bounds on neutrino non-standard interactions derived at low energies. Our analysis explores a large set of new physics scenarios and includes full one-loop running effects below and above the electroweak scale. Our results show that neutrino non-standard interactions already push the scale of new physics beyond the TeV. We also conclude that bounds derived by other experimental probes, in pa…

I=1/2 S -wave and P -wave Kπ scattering and the κ and K* resonances from lattice QCD

2020

We present a lattice-QCD determination of the elastic isospin-$1/2$ $S$-wave and $P$-wave $K\ensuremath{\pi}$ scattering amplitudes as a function of the center-of-mass energy using L\"uscher's method. We perform global fits of $K$-matrix parametrizations to the finite-volume energy spectra for all irreducible representations with total momenta up to $\sqrt{3}\frac{2\ensuremath{\pi}}{L}$; this includes irreducible representations (irreps) that mix the $S$- and $P$-waves. Several different parametrizations for the energy dependence of the $K$-matrix are considered. We also determine the positions of the nearest poles in the scattering amplitudes, which correspond to the broad $\ensuremath{\ka…

Flavor-singlet meson decay constants from Nf=2+1+1 twisted mass lattice QCD

2018

We present an improved analysis of our lattice data for the $\ensuremath{\eta}--{\ensuremath{\eta}}^{\ensuremath{'}}$ system, including a correction of the relevant correlation functions for residual topological finite size effects and employing consistent chiral and continuum fits. From this analysis we update our physical results for the masses ${M}_{\ensuremath{\eta}}=557(11{)}_{\text{stat}}(03{)}_{\ensuremath{\chi}\mathrm{PT}}\text{ }\text{ }\mathrm{MeV}$ and ${M}_{\ensuremath{\eta}}^{\ensuremath{'}}=911(64{)}_{\text{stat}}(03{)}_{\ensuremath{\chi}\mathrm{PT}}\text{ }\text{ }\mathrm{MeV}$, as well as the mixing angle in the quark flavor basis $\ensuremath{\phi}=38.8(2.2{)}_{\text{stat}}…

Radiative Seesaw Dark Matter

2021

The singlet majoron model of seesaw neutrino mass is appended by one dark Majorana fermion singlet $\chi$ with $L=2$ and one dark complex scalar singlet $\zeta$ with $L=1$. This simple setup allows $\chi$ to obtain a small radiative mass anchored by the same heavy right-handed neutrinos, whereas the one-loop decay of the standard-model Higgs boson to $\chi \chi + \bar{\chi} \bar{\chi}$ provides the freeze-in mechanism for $\chi$ to be the light dark matter of the Universe.

Search for Heavy Particles Decaying into Electron-Positron Pairs inpp¯Collisions

2001

We present results of searches for technirho (rho (T)), techniomega (omega (T)), and Z' particles, using the decay channels rho (T), omega (T), Z' --> e(+)e(-). The search is based on 124.8 pb(-1) of data collected by the DO detector at the Fermilab Tevatron during 1992-1996. In the absence of a signal, we set 95% C.L. upper limits on the cross sections for the processes p (p) over bar --> rho (T), omega (T), Z' - e(+)e(-) as a function of the mass of the decaying particle. For certain model parameters, we exclude the existence of degenerate rho (T) and omega (T) states with masses below about 200 GeV. We exclude a Z' with mass below 670 GeV, assuming that it has the same couplings to fermi…

Testing triplet fermions at the electron-positron and electron-proton colliders using fat jet signatures

2020

The addition of $SU(2)_L$ triplet fermions of zero hypercharge with the Standard Model (SM) helps to explain the origin of the neutrino mass by the so-called seesaw mechanism. Such a scenario is commonly know as the type-III seesaw model. After the electroweak symmetry breaking the mixings between the light and heavy mass eigenstates of the neutral leptons are developed which play important roles in the study of the charged and neutral multiplets of the triplet fermions at the colliders. In this article we study such interactions to produce these multiplets of the triplet fermion at the electron-positron and electron-proton colliders at different center of mass energies. We focus on the hea…
