Spin Hall magnetoresistance in antiferromagnetic insulators
2020
Antiferromagnetic materials promise improved performance for spintronic applications, as they are robust against external magnetic field perturbations and allow for faster magnetization dynamics compared to ferromagnets. The direct observation of the antiferromagnetic state, however, is challenging due to the absence of a macroscopic magnetization. Here, we show that the spin Hall magnetoresistance (SMR) is a versatile tool to probe the antiferromagnetic spin structure via simple electrical transport experiments by investigating the easy-plane antiferromagnetic insulators $\alpha$-Fe2O3 (hematite) and NiO in bilayer heterostructures with a Pt heavy metal top electrode. While rotating an ext…
Large Zero-Field Cooled Exchange-Bias in BulkMn2PtGa
2013
We report a large exchange-bias (EB) effect after zero-field cooling the new tetragonal Heusler compound Mn2PtGa from the paramagnetic state. The first-principle calculation and the magnetic measurements reveal that Mn2PtGa orders ferrimagnetically with some ferromagnetic (FM) inclusions. We show that ferrimagnetic (FI) ordering is essential to isothermally induce the exchange anisotropy needed for the zero-field cooled (ZFC) EB during the virgin magnetization process. The complex magnetic behavior at low temperatures is characterized by the coexistence of a field induced irreversible magnetic behavior and a spin-glass-like phase. The field induced irreversibility originates from an unusual…
The challenge in realizing an exchange coupled BiFeO3-double perovskite bilayer
2020
Abstract In this work we propose a device design for efficient voltage control of magnetism. The magnetization of a ferrimagnetic double perovskite may be manipulated by an exchange coupled layer of multiferroic BiFeO3. Bilayers of Barium doped BiFeO3 and ferrimagnetic double perovskite Sr2FeMoO6 have been prepared by pulsed laser deposition motivated by the possibility of strong interlayer exchange coupling. While single layers of each material show high quality we observe that in both stacking orders the first layer decomposes during the deposition of the second layer. The reason for the decomposition are strongly differing growth conditions for BiFeO3 and Sr2FeMoO6. This means that the g…
Synthesis, crystal structure and magnetic properties of a cyanide-bridged heterometallic {CoIIMnIII} chain
2017
The assembly reaction between the low-spin [CoII(dmphen)(CN)3]- metalloligand and the [MnIII(salen)(H2O)]+ complex cation yielded the one-dimensional compound {[MnIII(salen)(μ-NC)2CoII(dmphen)(CN)]·2H2O}n (1), which behaves as a ferrimagnetic chain, the intrachain magnetic coupling being J = -1.71(1) cm-1.
Temperature dependence of the non-local spin Seebeck effect in YIG/Pt nanostructures
2017
We study the transport of thermally excited non-equilibrium magnons through the ferrimagnetic insulator YIG using two electrically isolated Pt strips as injector and detector. The diffusing magnons induce a non-local inverse spin Hall voltage in the detector corresponding to the so-called non-local spin Seebeck effect (SSE). We measure the non-local SSE as a function of temperature and strip separation. In experiments at room temperature we observe a sign change of the non-local SSE voltage at a characteristic strip separation d0, in agreement with previous investigations. At lower temperatures however, we find a strong temperature dependence of d0. This suggests that both the angular momen…
Influence of Proton Conducting Cations on the Structure and Properties of 2D Anilate-Based Magnets
2017
The syntheses, structures, magnetic, and proton conductivity properties of a family of bimetallic anilate-based compounds with inserted alkylammonium cations are presented. The structures of (Me2NH2)[MnIICrIII(Br2An)3]·2H2O (1), (Et2NH2)[MnIICrIII(Br2An)3] (2), (Et3NH)[MnIICrIII(Cl2An)3] (3), and [(Et)(i-Pr)2NH]-[MnIICrIII(Br2An)3]·(CHCl3)0.5·(H2O) (4) contain a 2D anionic network formed by Mn(II) and Cr(III) ions linked through anilate ligands. In 1, 2, and 3, the hexagonal holes of this network are occupied by Me2NH2+, Et2NH2+, or Et3NH+ cations. Interestingly, the small increase of size of the templating cation in 4 ([(Et)(i-Pr)2NH]+ in the place of Me2NH2+, Et2NH2+ or Et3NH+), gives ris…
A cyano-bridged bimetallic ferrimagnet: Synthesis, X-ray structure and magnetic study
2010
Mixing of trans-[Mn(cyclam)Cl2]Cl (cyclam = 1,4,8,11-tetraazacyclotetradecane) and potassium hexacyanochromate (K3[Cr(CN)6]) aqueous solutions instantaneously yields a 1D infinite chain complex {[Mn(cyclam)(l-CN)2Cr(CN)4] H2O}n (1). The crystal structure of 1, crystallizing in the monoclinic system with space group P21/n has been solved from X-ray powder diffraction data following direct space approach and refined by the Rietveld method. The structure analysis of 1 reveals alternating [Cr(CN)6] 3 and [Mn(cyclam)] 3+

2006
Two new series of neutral ox-amato-bridged heterobimetallic chains of general formula [MCu(L x ) 2 ]- m DMSO (m=0-4) (L 1 =N-2-methyl-phenyloxamate, M=Mn (1a) and Co (1 b); L2 = N-2,6-dimethylphenyloxamate, M=Mn (2a) and Co (2b); L 3 = N-2,4,6-trimethylphenyloxamate, M= Mn (3a) and Co (3b)) have been prepared by reaction between the corresponding anionic oxamatocopper(II) complexes [Cu(L x ) 2 ] 2- with Mn 2+ or Co 2+ cations in DMSO. The crystal structures of [CoCu(L 2 ) 2 (H 2 O) 2 ] (2b') and [CoCu(L 3 ) 2 (H 2 O) 2 ]·4H 2 O (3b') have been solved by single-crystal X-ray diffraction methods. Compounds 2b' and 3b' adopt zigzag and linear chain structures, respectively. The intrachain Cu··…
Some factors affecting an increase in magnetic susceptibility of cement dusts
2001
The aim of the research was to explain reasons of fluctuation in magnetic susceptibility of cement dusts and the consequences for the environment. The research comprised measurements of magnetic susceptibility and Fe content in dusts, and also in raw materials, additives, fuels, mixtures and clinkers used for cement production. The samples were taken in four cement plants located in Opole Province (southern Poland). In addition to this, the influence of two production methods (dry and wet) on magnetic susceptibility of dusts and some aspects of ferrimagnetic minerals formation in the process of clinker burning were considered. It was proven that magnetic susceptibility of dusts depends on r…
Ferrimagnetic Heisenberg chain; influence of a random exchange interaction
1985
We report on the magnetic behavior of ‘‘rigid’’ ferrimagnetic chains isolated in bimetallic complexes of the EDTA and ‘‘flexible’’ ones obtained in the amorphous variety. As shown by LAXS, the only noteworthy difference in the amorphous state is the random distribution of bond angles between nearest neighbors within chains. The ‘‘rigid’’ bimetallic chains in CoNi(EDTA)6H2O are described in terms of Heisenberg model with an exchange coupling J=−7.5 K. The behavior of the amorphous variety somewhat differs, following the law X=AT−0.8 typical of REHAC. A classical spin chain model involving a J distribution and alternating g factors allows to explain successfully the temperature dependence of …
